Weeks flew by like that. Me trying to memorize my classes, teachers and peers and Miranda making a bunch of friends for us to share. It wasn't long before we added someone else to our group and I began to make several acquaintances in all of my classes. I was excelling in all of my honors classes and my grades consisted of As and Bs.
It was mid - September when I first noticed the hispanic boy in my History and English classes. It was an average day in my english class when he decided to make himself known. As english was my favorite and I excelled in writing I had just got done arguing to the class what would happen if marketers stopped marketing and advertising. I was about to finish when I was interrupted by an arrogant voice. "That wouldn't happen." he said. I turned so quick I just about broke my neck. No one had EVER replied, let alone argued anything I had ever said. I would be lying if I said my pride wasn't hurt. I was seething and embarrassed. The rest of the students were intrigued. This had never happened before. I looked him up and down before settling on his face. I narrowed my eyes. I knew his type; rich, popular, rude, proud and obnoxious. Great, I thought. I couldn't stand these types.
I cleared my throat, trying to conjure up a rebuttal but I was still too struck by his audacity. I looked at him again and he smirked at me. Finally I responded," Hypothetically if prices were so inflated and minimum wage did not match the increases there would in fact be a definitive imbalance." We kept firing response after response to one another until finally the teacher stopped and had us focus on a different lesson. I let out a heavy breath and tried to collect myself, embarrassed and frustrated. He just sat there looking smug. Well at least he's not dumb, I'll give him that I thought before turning to my textbook.
"Isn't he sexy?" Miranda asked. I felt the air whoosh out of me. "What?" I replied. "Yeah," my friend Maddie added. "I like his hair its so curly." As if he knew what they were saying he turned to our table and winked at us. Oh my gosh. I thought. I wanted to facepalm myself. "Alright class turn to page 82, we'll start at the 6th paragraph..." I sighed and did as my teacher instructed deciding to let it go. The rest of the day went smoothly like that.
