Chapter 1 - Chapter One: The Beginning

My name is Talia Ambers, I'm 16 years old, I go to Loterdale High school in Crimson, California. I lead a pretty normal life, I have friends and family, I go to school, I'm a regular teenage girl, except for the fact that I was born with a super power. I have the ability to know the truth to any question I am asked. I now, it sounds crazy, but the thing is, half of the time, the answers that pop into my head, I didn't even know beforehand. I've always had this dream that I would use my powers for good, that I could use them to help people. People deserve to know the truth about the world. Nobody else knows about my powers except for me, my friends, Gene, Aaron, Derek, and my sibling, Jace.

Aside from that, my life is normal.

"Talia, Talia!! 43x500, what's the answer?" My teacher, Ms.Benton, 53 and still can't find a man, at least, that's what I've observed. All the people she's interested in either don't like her back, or don't know she exists. "21,500." I say with no hesitation. "Very good. Now class who can tell me the answer to number 2 from last nights homework assignment?" She asked. Of course math is easy for me, but so is every other class. My parents are under the impression that they've raised a genius. They don't know about my special abilities. Even if I did tell them, they wouldn't believe it. They're scientists, so things like super powers don't exist in their minds. There really is no point in telling them if they'd never believe me. "Ugh, math class is so boring!!!!!!" Said Gene. Gene Harem, we've been best friends since 2nd grade, I remember that they were wearing a purple monkey shirt, a green, sparkly tutu, jeans, and sneakers. They wore their hair really short, always have. "Honestly, same." I replied. "Of course you would be bored, you always know the answers to everything." They said. Then the bell rang, that meant it was time to pack up our things in our lockers and go home. Our two other friends met up with us at my locker. "I'm so glad this day is over." Said Derek. Gene and I met Derek Bradshaw in 3rd grade, he carried around a Teletubbies lunchbox until Max Bender chucked it against the wall in 4th grade. "Same. Mr. Hamilton totally hates me, I studied for that test all night and he still gave me an F!" Said Aaron. Aaron Baxter, I was introduced to him by Derek, they're both a whole grade above Gene and I. "Dude, everyone in our class failed that test from what I've heard. Plus, he pretty much hates everybody." Said Derek. "What about you guys?" "Boring, as usual." Said Gene. "Yup." I agreed. "Your know, Talia, you know the answers to everything, so I don't understand why you even bother going to school at all." Said Aaron. "Yeah, my parents wanted me to go to college as soon as I got out of school this year, but I begged them to let me stay for the whole four years." I said. It was not just that, I had even gotten things from colleges, Harvard even sent me an invitation, and I'm only in my sophomore year. "Why?" He asked, squinting one eye to not be blinded by the sun. "Because I'd miss you guys way to much. I'd be so bored without you guys." I said. This made them all smile.

When I walked in the door of my house, I was greeted by a big furry golden retriever, his name is Watson. "How was you're day at school dear?" My mom asked. "Boring, very boring." I said. I set my bag on the floor, and plopped myself on the couch. "Well that's nice, do you have any homework??" She asked. "Yes." I said. So I got up and, got my homework out of the bag. It only took me a half hour to complete being that my power also works if the questions are on paper. I can basically never turn this power off, ever. After I got everything done, I sat there and watched tv until dinner was ready. As we all sat at the table, we saw the pile of food on each of our plates, it was spaghetti. I sat there and twirled the noodles around my fork, as my parents and sibling talked about how college was going for them. Jace is 20, they just started college this year. They major in, you guessed it, science. The Apple does not fall far from the tree. "Jace, how are your classes going??" My father asked. "Fine I guess. A lot of the classes are a bit tough. Especially science." Said Jace. They looked as though they knew what our parents would say next, and prepared themselves. "Now why's that?" My mother asked. They seem to pressure Jace about their grades more than they do to me. I know they struggle with school work, science mostly. I've offered my help to Jace before, but they've always said that they want to do it themselves, using me would make them feel like they were cheating.
