Chereads / How To Be A Great Demon / Chapter 4 - Fate

Chapter 4 - Fate

Lance Grey and Sebastian Tempest have become good friends. Sebastian is from Noble family, but doesn't care about the social repercussions of befriending a peasant. Most Nobles tend to stay away from Commoners, and taught their children the same. But Sebastian was impressed by Lance and his demonstration at his test, he showed the making of a true Mage, which was never giving up.

In Sebastian's test he managed to impress Brock with his powerful and impressive use of his lighting ability, which was a strong ability to have.

Lance and Sebastian have been studying magic at the academy for several months now, and it's finally time for their exams.

Passing the exams meant that they would graduate, and go on the field to learn magic from actual Mages. After that would mean becoming Mages themselves. This was how it worked, first you attend the normal schools, then if you want to be a Mage you join the Mage Academy, after graduating you train with Mages, and then you can go on adventures as a New Mage.

Lance and Sebastian practice their magic attacks outside in a training area for students, training was what everyone did to better prepare for the exam. And after waiting their turn, is was time for Lance and his friend Sebastian to do battle.

Lance starts off by blasting his improved Dark Cloud at Sebastian, instantly blinding him with the darkness. Then he runs forward with his sword in hand, but through his Cloud he sees Sebastian smiling, and raising his sword into the air.

It crackles with lightning and a bolt erupts from the blade, striking Lance painfully and sending him crashing through a table, some distance away from the training area.

Sebastian won the fight easily and runs towards Lance to help him get up, afterwards they both laugh it off.

Lance and Sebastian's exams were tough, questioning them on every aspect of magic they've had learned so far, but thankfully they were able to pass, apparently so did Lora. But Lance didn't hear it from her, she kept her distance from everyone, including Lance. He eventually finds out why though from the rumors people spoke of her.

Lora's father was actually a Nobleman who had an affair outside his Marriage with Lora's mother, a peasant. Not wanting to ruin his Marriage, he abandons Lora and her mother leaving them to fend for themselves and cutting off all ties from them. Lora found out the truth about her father and uses his surname as a way of exposing his secret. But in doing so exposed herself to shame and humiliation for supposedly lying about her heritage. This somehow lead to her failing her exams, and that's why she's repeating her year at the Academy.

Lance knows the kind of person Lora was. She was a kind, brave and strong-willed person. She would never lie or do some of the awful things people said she did. Or would she? Lance really didn't know.

The final exam had begun, a team of two are to enter a Dungeon, and overcome obstacles to retrieve a Magic Crystal hidden deep within the dungeon.

The instructor gives everyone advice, telling them how safe but challenging the Dungeon would be. As the instructor randomly selects the teams, Lance hopes to be partnered with Sebastian, together they would make a great team, being good friends and all.

But fate had other plans for young Lance Grey, because he is partnered with Lora Magma.
