During the time of the Great Demons, Hyena then known as Voltimara was part of a clan of deadly Curses under the command of the Great Demon Midnight. The clan had been sent to exterminate a human village hidden deep in the mountains. At the now destroyed village, Voltimara chases after a man who had survived the massacre, once he caught the individual, he bites down on his neck, slowly killing him. After the man was dead, Voltimara spits out his blood in disgust.
Voltimara: (Gags) Disgusting!
A female Dark Hyena emerges from the shadows and joins him.
Clonera: Hey Voltimara, still refusing to consume human flesh I see. (She tells him with glee)
Voltimara: I can't bring myself to eat this shit. (Voltimara tells her as he backs away from the corpse)
Clonera: Well then, more for me. (She states, digging into the dead man's flesh)
Voltimara: Clonera I sincerely hope you know, that's disgusting.
Clonera: .....Really, Do I disgust you Volty. (She tells him, leaning closer with her mouth covered in gore)
Voltimara: At times like this, yes.
Clonera: (Laughs) You're such a big softy.
Voltimara: (Sighs) I'm just sick and tired of all this death and destruction.
Clonera: We're at war, death and destruction is expected from us.
Voltimara: War?, this is no war, this is a bloodbath, a massacre, this is just senseless violence, I've been at war with humans before and this isn't it, all we've done this past few months is destroy villages and towns, we're punishing all humans for the crimes of a few.
Clonera: Have you forgotten what they took from our master!, I haven't forgotten, and I won't forgive either, the humans must die. (Clonera says in anger)
Voltimara: ....I guess you're right, they must die.
Clonera: Good to have you back, you were right about one thing though, that human did taste like shit. (Clonera says before leaving)
The two rejoin four other Dark Hyena's who were also done killing the residents of the village.
Huntress (Leader of the Clan): Good job everyone, now we must rejoin Midnight and wipe out the rest of the humans.
Ravager: I'm bored of killing humans, they never put up much of a fight.
Seeker: Indeed, they are pathetically weak, It's only a matter of time before we wipe them off the face of the earth.
Clonera: Afterwards we can all go home and put this entire ordeal behind us. (Clonera tells them happily)
Runt: Yeah, (Chuckles)...I can't wait to go home and relax. (Runt says as he relishes the thought)
Voltimara: (Thinks to himself) Home, I can't believe I forgot why we're doing all this, all this death and destruction has a purpose, our goal is to finally live in peace, In a world without humans, our paradise.
Suddenly three other Dark Hyenas rush to the scene, almost like they're retreating.
Scavenger: (Panting) Huntress, It's Midnight, he's been captured. (Scavenger manages to say through his heavy breathing)
Huntress: What do you mean captured?!
Nighterra: The humans!, They had the Voidstone and used it to trap all the Great Demons!, they're all gone.
Huntress: That's not possible, how did the humans get their hands on the Voidstone?!, Unless, The uncorrupted spirits!, They betrayed us!
Clonera: Those rats!, How dare they betray us!
Helos: What do we do Huntress?, I heard the humans say they're going to split the Voidstone.
Clonera: We can't let that happen, we have to take action.
Huntress: .....No, we have to wait
Clonera: What!, You want us to wait! (Clonera yells in surprise)
Huntress: We are Dark Hyenas, without our master we can't survive, since we're all still here, that means Midnight is alive and well.
Nighterra: With all due respect, I saw the Voidstone swallow up Midnight myself, there's no way....
Huntress: Silence!, we shall wait for him to return and that's final! (she barks, ordering the clan sternly)
Clonera: Didn't you hear what he said, If our master is trapped, we have to rescue him. (Clonera says as she tries to reason with Huntress)
Huntress suddenly pounces on Clonera and restrains her with a paw to the throat.
Huntress: I said we wait, I will not tolerate disobedience, from any of you! (She threatens)
Voltimara steps in.
Voltimara: Huntress is right, she's been the right hand of our master for years, she knows what she's talking about, plus Midnight is one of the strongest Great Demons, I doubt even the Voidstone can trap him.
Voltimara agrees with Huntresses plan to wait, It was a better option than trying to take on the entire human race by themselves.
Scavenger: You're right....The humans are too strong now, I hate to save it, but maybe waiting is our only option.(Scavenger says as he agrees with Voltimara)
And so the clan decides to wait for Midnight to return, they waited for over a hundred and ninety years with no sign of their master ever returning. One night Voltimara patrols their hideout, they've managed to stay hidden all these years with no incidents or casualties. As Voltimara is patrolling, he spots movement in the shadows, he goes to investigate and catches Clonera, Nighterra and Helos trying to flee.
Voltimara: Where are you three going?
Helos: We're tired of waiting, we must take action!
Voltimara: Traitors!!! (Voltimara yells as he growls)
Clonera: We're not traitors, we are doing this for our master, we are going to rescue him and all the Great Demons. (Clonera explains calmly)
Nighterra: Join us Voltimara, together we can save Midnight.
Voltimara: No!, Huntress is in charge and she says we wait, you must understand that she knows what she's doing.
Clonera: So do we!, It's either her or me Volty!. Join us, join me. (Clonera tells him, hoping he says yes)
Voltimara: I'm sorry...If you have already decided to leave I won't stop you, but I won't join you either.
Clonera: (With tears in her eyes) If that's how you feel, then goodbye, Voltimara. (She tells him before fleeing into the night with Nighterra and Helos).
Voltimara goes to Huntress to inform her of the situation.
Voltimara: Huntress. Clonera, Nighterra and Helos just left, And I did not stop them.(He explains sadly)
Huntress: (Sighs)...We must have patience Voltimara, I know he's out there, his powerful scent still lingers in the air... I know you've noticed it.
Voltimara: I have noticed, but it's strange, If Midnight's out there, why hasn't he summoned us yet?
Huntress: Who knows, perhaps he's planning something, or just wants to be left alone, either way when his scent is strong enough, I want you to find him.
Voltimara: Why me?, Why don't we all go?
Huntress: It's too risky, If even one of us is discovered, we could all be wiped out, that's why we need one soldier, a soldier who's smart, strong and most importantly loyal... That soldier is you Voltimara, As soon as the scent is strong enough, I want you to find our Master.
Voltimara: I swear to you , I will. (Voltimara tells Huntress with determination in his eyes)
Hyena's recollection ends and he's back at Lance's home. Lance came to visit his mother and during his chat with her, Hyena dozed off, now he's awake and Elizabeth has already gone to bed, Lance now sits by Hyena to ask him a question.
Lance Grey: Hyena, If we're to remain partners, I want you to tell me the truth. Why did I get cursed? (Lance asks, expecting the truth)
Hyena: (Sighs) Forgive me for not telling you sooner, but I think it's time for you to know the truth, about how you became my master.
Note: There are nine Dark Hyenas in the clan.
Clonera and Huntress are the only females, the rest are males.
Runt is the youngest and smallest Dark Hyena.
