Chapter 34 - Lora And Nina's First Mission

Lora and Nina are on their first mission, they arrive at the village where a magic beast has been terrorizing and meet up with the village Chief.

Village Chief: Welcome young mages, thank you for agreeing to help us with our beast problem.

Lora Magma: You're very welcome. (Lora tells him with a smile)

Nina Willow: When does the beast usually attack?

Villager: It comes every night!, It has been like that for days now and we can't stop it! (The man rants)

Village Chief: Yes, we've tried everything.

Lora Magma: What does it usually do during an attack?

Villager Chief: It always steals our food and life stock, and hauls it into the forest, If it continues like this we won't last the winter. (The Chief explains sadly)

Villager: Please help us. (The villager begs)

Lora Magma: We will, but since it attacks every night, we should just wait until it shows up and stop it then.

Nina Willow: That's a good idea.

Village Chief: Then we shall give you accommodation to stay in, and inform you when the creature attacks. (The Chief explains as he takes them to a room)

Lora and Nina are taken to a room where they wait for hours for the beast to attack, now it's late at night and with nothing else to do, Lora and Nina engage in conversation.

Nina Willow: Umm Lora, do you like Lance? (Nina asks suddenly)

Lora Magma: What, No we're just just good friends.

Nina Willow: Sorry, I just thought...

Lora Magma: Wait why are you asking?, Do you like Lance? (Lora asks in surprise)

Nina Willow: Well.... (She blushes)

Lora Magma: You do, then you should tell him how you feel, otherwise you could end up losing him.

Nina Willow: I'll think about it (Nina replies shy fully)

Lora Magma: Enough about boys, tell me about yourself.

Nina Willow: There's nothing to tell, I come from a Noble home and I have six brothers.

Lora Magma: Woah, sounds rough.

Nina Willow: Yeah...My dad never really paid much attention to me, all he cared about was raising his sons into successful men or mages.

Lora Magma: I never even knew I had a dad until recently, I found out he was a conniving bastard that left my mother when she was pregnant with me, If it wasn't for Lance's mother who supported her, I might not even have been born, that's why I became a mage, with the money I could gain, my mother would never have to depend on anyone else again.

Nina Willow: Wow you're so strong Lora, I wish I was as strong as you, maybe then my family would notice me.

Lora Magma: You don't have to prove yourself to anyone, you're great just the way you are.

Nina Willow: Thank you.

Suddenly they hear a cry outside the room and go to investigate, It was the magic beast, It has come for the stash of food hidden away by the villagers in a Hut.

Villager: It's after the food!, Somebody do something! (The woman yells)

Lora and Nina spring into action attacking the massive Beast Bear, the creature roars as it smashes the wooden Hut, going for the food.

Nina Willow: Oh no you don't, Brain Blast! (Nina yells, casting a psychic attack to disorient the beast)

Lora Magma: I've got you right where I want you, Inferno! (Lora yells as she blasts the beast with fire)

The Beast Bear grabs a mouthful of food and retreats into the forest from whence it came, Lora and Nina pursue the creature but eventually lose it in the thick undergrowth.

Lora Magma: Where is it? (Lora asks in frustration)

Nina Willow: I don't know, but I have a way to find it. (Nina then closes her eyes and as soon as she reopens them, they glow white) It's over there!, And it's not alone!

Lora Magma: The more the merrier! (Lora replies as she runs towards the direction Nina pointed, but as they find the creature they see something unexpected)

The magic beast has babies, the Bear feeds it's cubs with the food it had stolen, making Lora and Nina realise that it was just a mother providing for her young.

Lora Magma: What do we do?....we can't just kill them, and we can't leave them either.

Nina Willow: I know what to do. (Nina says as she uses her mind control magic to enchant all of the Beasts into obeying her commands) We will have to find them a new home. (Nina tells Lora with a look of kindness in her eyes)

Lora and Nina move the Beast Bear and her cubs to a safer location, far away from civilization and with plenty of food to keep them from ever starving again. With their mission complete, Nina and Lora report back to Gwenevier about their success, the magic beast may have attacked people, but that doesn't mean it deserved to be killed.

Meanwhile Rex Striker and Sebastian Tempest are on a special mission to check up on the village that had recently been attacked by the demon Hell Mage, The demon had killed everyone in the small village but miraculously Leon Chronos was able to bring everyone back to life with his Time magic, or so he thought, turns out Leon's spell couldn't bring back those who had been dead for long, and in his haste he couldn't check if everyone was revived, but that's what Rex and Sebastian are here for.

Sebastian and Rex wander aimlessly around the village searching for the village Chief.

Village Chief: Can I help you two? (The elderly man asks)

Sebastian Tempest: Yes, we're looking for the village chief.

Village Chief: You're looking at him.

Rex Striker: We're mages who were sent to check up on things, you know, because of the demon attack.

Village Chief: I remember that day well, I remember the feeling of being burned to death by that monster, but somehow we were reborn, brought back by who I can only say is a Great spirit in human form, we owe him our lives.

Sebastian Tempest: How many people didn't make it? (Sebastian asks as politely as he could)

Village Chief: Only a few, among them was my son.

Rex Striker: I'm so sorry for your loss.

Village Chief: Thank you, I'm still grateful for my life and for the life of my daughter, my son's passing was painful, but I know that he's in a better place now.

Sebastian Tempest: Thank you kind sir, we'll be on our way now. (Sebastian says as they begin to leave)

Village Chief: Wait, spells like the one that brought us back always come at a price, tell the man that saved us to be careful, we will need him for the upcoming war.

Rex Striker: What war do you speak of?

Village Chief: The war against the Great Demons. (The man tells them ominously)

Next: Behold, A Grimm Future.
