dreams they connect and anchor us to different worlds we couldn't even imagine in our day to day lives.The vastness of dreams the possibilities all gone when you open your eyes and wake up.
That was the feeling when talen woke up sweating profusely from a dream he just had a dream which seemed eerily realistic.
He had the faintest recollection of the dream now the a.i saying " you are awake boss the doctor left a message for you" pulled him from his current stream of thought
"what was the message?" he asked while rubbing his eyes "he thinks he made a break through with his alternate death record machine" the a.i answered.
"he's still on that?" he asked rhetorically. "that old man never gives up does he?" tell him I have more pressing issues to attend to there's been major disturbances in downtown location I need to check it out I don't have time for his stupid theories right now.
"he isn't going to be really happy about that sir"
"I could care less about what makes him happy and his stupid obsession with alternate earths vex"
"we have real shit to do he'd understand" he said making his way to the bathroom. "all right boss" vex said.
Talen approached the shower handle and turned it on he let the warm water stream down his body soaped up and then washed and dried his body.
stepping back into his room he could make out the digital clock hanging on the walls of his rather spacious room he saw the time was 7:10 am he sighed loudly he had to meet up with valon industries ceo. apparently a crew had made off with the volatile resource known as spinum.
"perks of being a private investigator I guess" he said. he didn't like john kayod of valon. he was a brashful boastful man with a scruffy beard and a very expensive get up standing at "6.2"
mr kayod came from old money. the time predating the great technosis war which wiped out half the population. men like him didn't know struggle they were born with silver spoons in their mouths they navigated the world differently and saw everyone as subjects.
you can understand why talen wasn't too keen on meeting such an individual again. talen grabbed breakfast and made his way to his a.i automated car he opened the door and sat down.
"take me to valon industries vex, not too fast tho I am in no rush to see that arrogant shit anytime soon".
"yes sir"
The drive to valon was smooth and uneventful there was barely any traffick for a Monday morning the incident at valon's warehouses is probably to blame.
talen stared outside his tinted windows observing the pedestrians on the sidewalks and the beautiful skyscrapers as the a.i drove the car to valon. his mind began to drift back to the realistic dream he had untill he was once again pulled from his thoughts by vex announcing they were at their destination.
"here we go" he said as he got out and made his way to the tall building the door was open by the security man who recognized his face he saw the familiar woman at the desk smile at him and said "mr kayode has been expecting you mr talen follow me"
They made their way to the elevator then she pushed 20th floor button after they were both inside. "mr kayod would be so happy to see you, he's been quite restless following the incident" she said making conversation. talen grunted in response and they were silent for the rest of the journey to the 20th floor
The elevator pinged and opened up they were on the 20th floor they made their way through a series of offices till they were at the ceos office "he's here sir" said the smiling woman mr kayode looked up from his desk "ah talen you are here finally!" he bellowed.
he got up from his desk dismissing the woman with a nod and made his way over to talen on the opposite side of the desk. he put both hands on talen's shoulders to talen's discomfort. "you don't seem too glad to see me" he said "let's just get to business" talen replied.
"sure talen"
both men made their way to their respective chairs and sat down "so about the spinum a crew of professionals made off with it from one of my warehouses they were pretty high level they had screechers on em" kayode began.
talen gasped at that "screechers you say? that's pretty high level, really hard to get unless you know a connect with serious fire power. this is pretty serious john people just don't walk around with that kind of tech"
kayod scoffed "you think I don't know that? even worse that pesky vemin security of mine couldn't stop them" here's that pesky arrogance again... talen thought. "not much one can do against screechers john" he replied.
"we should focus on getting back what you lost. to start I would need to review your camera footage get some kind of clue what went down and I would need to know more about this spinum, see what we are up against."
"would have the camera footage sent to your a.i as for the spinum you are on a need to know basis work with that" he said crossing his arms and staring dead straight into talen's eyes.
"what aren't you telling me john"
"you know everything you need to talen"
"you sure? cause it doesn't seem that way I need to know all the facts to solve this thing"
"you don't need to know more about spinum expect what it looks like it and the crew who made off with it so you can get it back"
"you really are stubborn aren't you john I need to kn-"
"drop it talen" John said cutting him off angrily they stared angrily at each other until talen broke the stare and stood up saying "make sure they send the footage" as he turned and began to make his way outside the office "alright and talen time is off the escense work quickly" John said talen grunted in response and made his way out.
After making his way towards the elevator and down to the first floor and outside the building he got into his car and said "vex review the warehouse footage from valon warehouse" "yes sir" vex replied and a holographic video footage was shown on the dashboard.
"This can't be talen" said in surprise at what he saw "this crew" weren't moving like average thief's with high grade military tech they were moving like technosis special forces. he recognized their movements and coordination they were in out quickly dropping anyone who stood in their way with stopper rounds. the crew consisted of a team of four wearing what looked like technosis grade 3 body armor. again high level stuff talon knew they could be professionals he just wasn't expecting this, if they were technosis special forces they'd leave no trace so this little quest could be more troublesome than he expected. he needed to see the doctor "perhaps it's time to pay the doctor a visit vex" he said "alright sir the a.i replied as the car drove off to the doctor's residence.
