A week passed and Andrew, my butler knocked on my door. Andrew was a human and I knew that Father would be disappointed by the fact a human knew what I was. He would be even more disappointed with the fact that I had a Blood Puppet. I personally didn't care. No matter what humans always suspected that I was different. The humans in my household knew what I was in order to keep the suspicions of my visitors at bay.
"My lady, you have a visitor," Andrew informed me. I sat up, groggy with sleep.
"At this time of day?" I inquired as I looked at him, rubbing the sleep out of my eyes.
"My lady, the sun has set," he told me. I stared at him with disbelief. He walked over to the window and opened the curtains, revealing the fact that the sun had indeed set.
"Tell them I will be down in a moment," I said as I put my feet on the floor, still rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. "Bring them to the drawing room and give them some tea or something while I get prepared," I told him. "May I inquire as to who this visitor is?" I questioned with mild curiosity.
"Father William," Andrew replied. "He says he only wishes to speak with you," he added. I got out of bed as Andrew left my room.
I got ready as quickly as I could and went to the drawing room to see that Priest was fast asleep. I had taken too long getting ready. I studied his resting form.
His wavy dark brown hair was framing his face. He appeared to be relaxed but the pulsing vein in his tanned throat suggested otherwise. Soft snores emerged from his mouth as I walked over to him and brushed a stray lock of hair away from his eyes. The pulsing vein slowed as he relaxed. I gently shook his shoulder and watched as he slowly woke up.
"Apologies, I tried to stay awake," Priest told me as he rubbed the sleep out of his dark brown eyes.
"There is no need to apologize. You humans are day creatures; unlike us," I said with a smile, one that hid my fangs. He yawned and stretched.
"What information did you get?" I asked with mild curiosity, changing the subject.
"The conditions are deplorable. They're understaffed and most of the patients appear to be starving. I have nothing to intrigue your curiosity but I did manage to convince them to allow you to visit," he replied, covering another yawn.
"You did? How?" I asked with disbelief. He looked at me with a blank expression.
"I can be quite persuasive when I need to be," Priest answered. I studied him again. His eyes had become guarded. I decided not to press for information. No matter how curious I was.
"Am I able to visit at any time?" I questioned with curiosity. Priest nodded as a reply since he was covering another yawn. I noticed that I was staring at his teeth. Humans have very dull flat teeth, I mentally observed.
"Yes, you're able to visit at any time during the day," Priest told me. I made a sound in the back of my throat. I preferred to rest during the day. I was a Vampire after. And I was a creature of the night not of the day. "Day time is the only time you'll be able to visit," he said.
"I'm aware of that," I commented in a blank voice. There was silence after my statement and I noticed that Priest was drifting off to sleep. I sat down across from him and watched he fought the urge. Andrew came in with some tea for me. I looked at him and smiled as he poured me a cup. I looked back at Priest as I took a sip of my bloodied tea and saw that he had once again fallen asleep.
"Show our guest to a room so that he may sleep comfortably," I told Andrew. He nodded and gently shook Priest Priest woke up and looked at Andrew.
"I should head back to the church," Priest said as he stood up.
"Why not stay here for the night? Andrew will show you to our guest room," I told him. He looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "I will not visit you while you sleep," I said. "You have my word," I added with a smile. He studied me and silently came to a conclusion.
"Very well," he said in a quiet voice. Andrew led the way and Priest reluctantly followed him. I took another sip of tea and noted that Priest never did anything for me in complete willingness. Not that it really mattered. He would still do things for me, completely willing or not. I smiled when that observation crossed my mind.
I called Andrew over, ringing a small bell when I was positive Priest was asleep. Andrew almost instantly entered the drawing room.
"Yes my lady?" He inquired.
"What is my schedule like?" I asked.
"Tomorrow you have an appointment with Johnathon Hathoway and his family to discuss business. The day after that you were invited to celebrate their daughter's birthday. You then have a social gathering to attend the night after their daughter's party. The day after that you have nothing planned," Andrew told me with a knowing look in his eyes.
"Tell Saint Peter's Asylum I intend to visit in three days time," I ordered.
"As you wish my lady," Andrew said with a bow. He then left the drawing room, leaving me with my tea. It's going to be a busy three days, I thought with a sigh as I took another sip of my tea.
