It has been a week since the death of my wife, Alyss. I killed her. No one found out what happened that day and no one ever will.
I never have dreams anymore. I don't even see nightmares. After that night, I haven't been able to sleep. Every time I closed my eyes, I would see Alyss' lifeless eyes staring at me.
Getting out of bed after another sleepless night, I prepare for the day ahead of me. The bedroom have walls that are a deep maroon red and the room was filled with various stuffed animals and dolls from Alyss' collection.
A deep, heavy sigh escapes my mouth as I rub my temples to attempt to relieve my headache.
"You're awake" someone spoke. And it was a voice I knew too well.
I look to the middle of the and see a large antique chair facing away from the bed. Someone was there. I get up and walk towards the chair. As I get closer, I see a glimpse of white hair. I hesitate for a moment and think of Alyss. I continue to walk but now slower. Before I could see who it was, the person got up and turned to face me.
Alyss.
My eyes widen in shock as I slowly stumble backwards, hitting the bed and falling down into a sitting position on the edge.
"H-how?...I..." How are you alive? I killed you. My mind, unable to process the information, overloaded.
"Would you like some tea?" she asked. In her hand was a plain, white teapot of freshly brewed tea. Her voice broke me out of the trance I was in and I catch the scent of the tea in the air.
"Earl grey with two cubes of sugar, just as you like it" she says as she prepares a cup for me. Her movements were graceful, no movements wasted whatsoever. Yet again, perfection.
She hands me the tea but I only hold it.
There was a moment of silence.
"How are you here? I'm certain that I killed you" I ask, finally able form a sentence.
"What are you talking about? I would never leave you. Ever. "
Her words sent a shiver down my spine.
The chair was now facing towards the bed with Alyss sitting in it again. Her posture was impeccable, slowly sipping tea like a typical lady.
"Kill her". Those were the words that I heard in the back of my mind.
Suddenly, all the dolls in the room seemed to be staring right at me. The beady eyes that peered right into the deepest part of my heart.
"Kill her" one of the dolls, a porcelain girl wearing red, said, the words dripping with malice.
Remembering the moment I killed Alyss—her body getting colder by the second, blood pooling around her, and her eyes wide open, staring at mine—I screamed.
"Kill her"
"No!" I looked at Alyss and just sat there, smiling.
"Kill her" It repeated. "Kill her! Kill her! Kill her!" All the dolls were chanting together now and it got louder and louder.
"Quiet! I order you to quiet!" I shout, standing up. But they didn't stop. Instead , they got even louder and faster.
"What's wrong? I haven't spoken anything" Alyss says.
My body thrashes around as I cover my ears. I knock into my nightstand, feeling a pair of scissors drop near my feet–the same pair of scissors that killed Alyss. I grab the scissors and cut my ears off.
Blood dripped from the sides of my head, sullying my shirt. But–
The voices still didn't stop. Their voices kept ringing in my head, chanting "Kill her! kill her! Kill her!"
"STOP IT!" My knee fall to the floor, the voices overwhelming me.
I grip the scissors and ram it into my chest, blood seeping through my clothes. As the life quickly poured out of me, I see the corners Alyss' mouth start to curve up. The last thing I hear is the sound of Alyss' giggling.
