Chereads / Reincarnated as a merchant / Chapter 2 - Of His Dreams

Chapter 2 - Of His Dreams

He was in a new world. A world of fantasy and fiction, just like he wanted. It wasn't fake or imagined, and he wasn't the one creating or even controlling it. Muer got what he wanted. It could be considered a work of god, or a complete coincidence, but that didn't matter. Muer was in a fantasy world.

He shouted joyfully, quickly realizing that he was in a crowd of people. He just stood in place, frozen, like a deer in headlights. He hadn't moved in so long that he didn't quite remember how to, so he just stood there. Many of the people walking around the bustling market stared at him. Muer eventually started walking... but it was more of a shuffle. he was going to have to get used to moving, talking, and interacting again. It had only been a few seconds and he had already embarrassed himself in front of a crowd of people.

It took a few minutes, but he managed to shuffle his way to an alleyway where he then sat down. He should probably learn to move somewhat normally before going back into the market. He took a few seconds to catch his breath. `I haven't even walked that far... how am I so out of breath?` Muer looked down at his body. He had moved around fairly often in the city before he died so he was fairly fit before.

He saw his new body. Saying he was thin would be and underexaggerating, he was barely skin and bones, and pale to the point it seemed he almost glowed. `... what?` he thought `this can't be me... no` it took him a moment to realize the 'he' wasn't 'me' anymore. "w-what?!" he spoke, almost choking on his words. "what is th-" he could barely speak a few words before his voice faded into rasping breaths. `what?` Muer was becoming more and more confused.

If he had his memories he'd still be overjoyed, but he didn't. He was confused. How could he be like this? How could be someone else? How could he bee so sickly? How? Why? He took a long stare at the ground before looking back up. `... no... I'm still in a fantasy world aren't I? Can't I just find a cure or something? Like a healing potion!` Muer tries to stand up, and to his surprise, he did it easily. He didn't think to much about how to move, his body just moved to his command. This was slightly awkward for him. `oh, so that's how you move. I forgot.` feeling slightly better he walks out of the alley, determined to find something to help with this.

Stepping out of the alleyway people started staring at him again. Not only because of his appearance, but because of how suspicious he looked walking out of the alley in such a ragged and sick state. Not noticing their gazes, Muer walk onward. He walks through the paths, scanning the stands and stores for something that could help him. He seemed to have a sense for the quality and value of the items he looked at, but he hadn't noticed it yet. Eventually he came across a stall that sold potions. He somehow knew what each and every potion did, but he didn't come across what he was looking for.

The merchant noticing that Muers appearance along with the sudden lack of other customers assumed it was because of him. The merchant yelled at Muer before he could ask about a healing potion.

"b...but-" whispered Muer as the merchant picks up a staff. The merchant lifted up the staff about to swing at Muer. Muer seeing this moved back and started to walk away, degraded. He didn't think about this. In fact he didn't think about it much at all. He was weak and looked like he hadn't eaten in weeks, why would someone want him around their shop. They'd probably assume he didn't have money like the merchant did, and he didn't.

Slowly he made his way out of the market. What should he do now? He could think of a few things, but all of them are from stories or anime, and he doubts any of that would work. Now out of the market he sits down on a bench to think about what to do, but he doesn't come up with anything.
