Chapter 9 - GETTING THE CALL

MATT SULLIVAN

What a beautiful day it is to wake up alone in my cabin. No one but me is here. No one cursing at each other. No more killing and especially no mother. It's peaceful just the way I like it. There's nothing like waking up in the forest alone. I love it here. For the pass ten years this place has been my home, my livelihood and I wouldn't change it for the world. I have so many things to do so I have to stop thinking about the past. I have to go into town to pick up more supplies. I need to pick my fishing equipment and new boat. My stomach is growling a sign I need to eat first. I grab my favorite cereal which is running low. I need to get more of that plus milk. This has been all new to me for the last ten years, but I learn to live with it. Now that I'm done with breakfast I need to get into town to pick up the supplies I need.

I hear a noise that sounds like a car engine coming my way. Nobody knows where I am. Let me go see what it is. After my father helped me escape the prison I left no trace of me behind. Who would want to come here? I walk to the door and I open it. I see a car coming. It's an SUV. I don't believe it. I know that sign. How the hell did she find me? What the hell does the Republic want with me? I thought I was done doing the Republic's dirty work. The Republic's cars stop in front of my cabin the door opens and out comes Snyder. I haven't seen Snyder since he personal executed the rebels. Snyder brought my mother's personal guards. I don't know their names and I could care less. Snyder is just like my mother a perfect match made in hell. "Matt it's good to see you." It's just like Snyder to kiss everyone's ass. "What the hell are you doing here?" I wonder what these two people are up too. My business with the Republic is over and done. "I came to take you back to the Republic. You're mother's orders." My mother is going to send me back to prison or she is going to kill me.

There's noway on hell I'm going back to the Republic. "Are you crazy. My days of serving the Republic are over. Now leave my property." I turn and walk to cabin. Snyder grabs my arm, I push him off. "It's not a request. It's an order." The three guards aim their guns at me. "Shoot me, but I'm not going back." Snyder orders the guards to get me. They all tackle me then they hold me up for Snyder. "Your going back whether you like it or not. Bring him boys." They drag me to their car. This is a nightmare all over again. One I thought I left behind ten years ago. "Don't worry Matt your mother is not going to kill you. She has a special mission for you." A special mission. What the hell does that mean? I wonder how she found me. I live off grid. No one knows where I am.

I know my mother she has spies all over the Republic including the boarder states. She will do anything to find me and bring me back to the Republic. My world, my life is over. How do I know? I know this because I know the way my mother is. The special mission she wants me to do is a grudge mission. My mother wants me to find someone who she deems a threat not only to her, but to the Republic. The car stops at an airfield. "Get out of the car Matt." I hate Snyder. I want to kill him right here right know. Getting the call to go back to the Republic and to serve the Republic again was not on list of things to do before I die. We board the plane. We are off to the Republic Capital Austin, Texas. Last time I saw my mother I defied her orders. I escaped prison. I cursed the Republic never to return. Know I'm going back. I wonder what's going to happen this time.
