December thirty first, 11:59... the countdown had started... 3...2...1... Fireworks go off fogging the sky with a thick smoke. Anywhere you would turn all you could see were fireworks all around. Everyone was shouting loudly and popping champagne, celebrating, cheering for the new year. "Finally, we are out of 2020 man, can you believe it? We did it!" Samuel looked at his friend shaking his head at his remark.
Looking over to his small friend group he smiled thinking how lucky and happy he was, that he made it through such a hard year and make it out , alone with them. Samuel was busy looking at his friends when he realized, their facials expressions had changed from happiness and joy to horror and confusion. Turning around Samuel saw what their friends were staring at. A circle on the sky..? It looked like it was loading, or buffering. "What is that..?" Samuel asked frightened as well. "I have no idea bruh.. but it sort of looks like my computer, when it's loading something." Justin laughed placing his arm over Samuel's shoulder leaning on him.
"Should we be worried...? It seems to be getting brighter and clearer" Briana spoke, in a shaky broken whisper, fear visible in her voice. " Oh come on Bri, what's the worst that can happen?" Everyone burst out laughing at Lea's comment. "Right? Is not like we haven't been through everything alrea-" Justin got cut off as the circle in the sky shot a bright light throughout the whole atmosphere, turning the night sky, day for a couple of seconds. "Did y'all see that?!" Briana turned to Justin with a straight face. "Yes Justin we did, we are not blind... Hey Samuel are you alright?" Briana looked at Samuel who had been quiet all this time. "Yeah. Just thinking, that's all." The four of them looked back at the sky, only to notice the circle was gone.
In a matter of seconds a clock appeared instead, and .. a calendar beside it...? The pages on the calendar, turned backwards rapidly, and the clock seemed to go back in time as well. "Yo quick! Check your phones!" Samuel spoke in a freaked out voice. All of them took their phones out immediately. Turning on the screens they realized that the same had happened in their phones. All of a sudden it stopped. The date on all phones was still January 1 first, but... year 2020? "There has to be a mistake right? This can't be!" Briana was freaking out looking at her screen. How was this possible? The date was 1/1/2020. This couldn't be real, they went back in time? The year had restarted? Was any of this even possible? Maybe it was just a bad dream. Were the thoughts going through Samuel's head. It was confusing and terrifying .
A few minutes passed and they were still staring at their screen in disbelief. None of them could believe their eyes. The speakers emitted a, loud sound, which rang everywhere, snatching everyone's attention. Lea's eyes widened as the familiar sound reached her ears." Isn't that the government's nuclear alert sound?!" They all froze in shock hearing an announcement right after." This is the President of the United States of America speaking, it seems there has been a fault in reality. Our time's barrier seems to have collided with another one and shattered. We do not know what has caused this, or if we can fix it or how for the matter. As for the time being, it also seems like we are back in the year 2020. We advice you are careful and DO NOT tamper with clocks, watches, or anything that revolves or involves time. Thank you for your time, may god be with you all." The transmission ended with a loud screech, making everyone cover their ears, in attempt to protect them.
It was unbelievable, their thoughts and, fears had just been confirmed."So... now what?" Samuel sighed looking at everyone else. "This has got to be a joke! Are you kidding me?! After all we went through?! This can't be happening. How can the whole year just restart?! Please tell me this is just a bad dream.." Justin smashed his phone on the wall out of anger, and desperation. They didn't know if what they felt was fear.. or anger.. or dismay, or perhaps it was exhaustion. No matter which it was, all they knew was, that it was horrible. No one knew what to do. The government hadn't explained why they shouldn't mess with time devices. Was earth stable? "Does that mean.. that whatever we went through in 2020... we'll go through again?" Briana asked the group, growing pale.
"We don't know Bri, all we know is that the government is hiding something. They said our time barrier collided with another one and broke, but... is that really possible? Isn't it also weird that the President didn't state his name?" Lea sighed slumping down on the couch, closing her eyes letting her head fall back" I give up." She added letting her phone fall beside her in defeat. "What time is it? Samuel asked looking up to the sky once more. "How about you look at your phone genius." It was obvious Justin was still annoyed by his response. "Never mind." Samuel spoke in a soft voice, admiring what it seemed like a crack on the sky. "Was that.. there before?" Everyone turned to see the sky after Samuel's remark. "I don't think so... not that I know at least"
Briana glanced around her to make sure, there wasn't anything else. Her stomach growled, Samuel chuckled turning his attention her way. "You hungry Bri?" The group of friends laughed, but Samuel soon stopped as he checked the time on his phone once more. "Uhm guys.. mine says February 2, 2020... I thought it said January first.." Lea and Briana glanced at their phones in confusion. "It does...? What do you mean? Ours say January first Sam." Lea shifted her eyes from the phone to Samuel perplexed at the situation. He turned his screen towards the rest, no one could believe what was displayed on Samuel's screen.
