Chapter 22 - :His Daily Routine

Anton's Pov:

After 30 minutes, our roll call finally ended. I also finished inspecting my patrol car where I made sure that all necessary equipment, such as flares, first aid kits, and fire extinguishers, were in place. I turned my ignition and reach for my police radio.

"10-8," I advise my dispatcher as that I am in service and ready for duty.

"Oh, Police Officer Dy! Here you are." I was about to leave when I heard Detective Ishigami calling me. He was with Detective Santelices and I seemed to know where the conversation will be going.

"What's up? Looks like you're so ready today? It's good you just ignored the GOSSIP yesterday," said Detective Santelices emphasizing the word gossip. "That's good! That's what real men do," He said and patted my shoulder then they both laughed.

I just smiled. I don't want to argue with people like them anymore.

After they annoyed me, they finally let me go. I was already in my patrol car and was about to leave, but someone knocked on the car window.

"Hey, Officer Dy! Want some?" Officer Yzerman said immediately when I opened the car window. "I know you were stressed yesterday so take this."

"No thanks," I replied. I was about to close the window but she spoke again. "What happened yesterday was just a huge misunderstanding. No one wants to spread that rumor so I hope you don't get mad at us, especially with Xela. For sure she's ashamed now, including me. So please accept this."

I just took the drink he gave me. I don't want our conversation to last any longer.

"Thank you, Officer Dy! Take care!". A big smile carved on her lips. I just nodded and waved slightly before I finally leave.

As I was driving down the main road, I saw two vehicles appear to be welded together. Spilled coolant and oil are burning and boiling off the still-hot engines, transforming what were once two distinct vehicles into one massive, steaming pile of twisted metal.

I immediately picked up the first aid kit but I saw the ambulance was already on the scene. I just get out of the police car and watch as paramedics talk to a bloodied driver in one of the vehicles and firefighters work fervently to cut into the vehicle to get her out.

There's a driver in the other car as well, but he's not moving. I asked one of the paramedics where she confirmed that the crash involved a fatality. Before the crowd begins to gather, I call for a traffic homicide investigator and begin to cordon off the scene with crime scene tape. After that, I grab a fire blanket out of my first aid bag and drape it over the dead individual's car out of respect for the deceased.

I started gathering witnesses and take their statements.

"The white car was running fast. Very fast! Then a cat passed by so he avoided it. His car turned around until he collided with the oncoming red car," said a man who witnessed the accident. The statements I obtained from various witnesses were consistent. After that, I work to identify the drivers. I immediately confirmed their identities when I saw their IDs and licenses.

Later, the traffic homicide investigator arrived. I brief him and hand over the information I've obtained so far, offering to provide any additional assistance that's necessary. The task falls to me to inform the deceased's next of kin now that I've been relieved of investigative responsibilities. I went to the address in the ID of the victim.

I showed up at the door from the address and ring the doorbell until a woman carrying a baby opened the door and stared at me as I stand there with my hat in my hand.

"Ma'am, I'm very sorry to tell you that your husband has been killed in a car crash."

Her tears flowed immediately when I let go of those words. Surprisingly, another 4 -year -old boy approached her. When his mother said that his father was gone, the child could hardly breathe from crying.

I offer to make phone calls for her and to stay with her until a family member, minister, or friend can arrive. When their other relatives arrived, I said goodbye to leave. I go back to my patrol car again and drive my route until I notice an acquaintance from the precinct. When I confirmed that it was Detective Redalgo, I immediately approached him.

"Detective Redalgo! What happened?"

"Man... with gray shirt...." He said breathlessly. "Black pants...."

I immediately saw the man he was referring to so I quickly chased him. When I cornered him on the side of the bridge, he raised his hands. I was just surprised when he suddenly threw something into the lake. I followed that with a look that gave him a chance to run away. I immediately chased him again where I climbed on a table and jumped over him so that he could no longer escape.

"Let go of me! Let go of me!" He continued to yell. "I am the victim!"

"Really? Then why did you try to run away?" I smirked.

"Because they came after me!"

"We can talk at the precinct," I said. Detective Redalgo arrived just in time, so we immediately took this man to the precinct.

I stayed awhile at my desk to catch up on reports.

"I heard, you caught the guy who tried to run away earlier. Great job, as expected, Officer Dy!" Officer Yzerman smiled and immediately walked away.

After doing the report, I get back to my assigned area where I watch for disturbances, speeding, illegal parking, and other traffic violations. Of course, any of these incidents can mushroom suddenly and without warning from humdrum into a life-or-death situation, but each will require its own report even if it thankfully doesn't blow up.

After how many hours, I finally make my way home after I've left all my paperwork at the precinct. Fortunately, I don't come across any other issues on my way home. Such a tiring but fulfilling day has finally come to an end. I walk in my front door, four hours later than I was supposed to.

When I opened the door, I saw Aixela sitting asleep on the couch. I also noticed the food on the table she covered. She even left a note. [Looks like you're coming home late. If I fall asleep, just wake me up so I can reheat your food. And, about yesterday, I would like to say sorry again. I hope you can still forgive me:)]

I just smiled at the smiley face that she drew. But I immediately took back that smile. When I took off my uniform, I reheated the food and started to eat. After eating I also fell asleep due to tiredness.
