Rook yawned as he slowly opened his eyes and blinked. It was mid summer so the curtains in the hotel room weren't doing much to shield his eyes from the afternoon sun. He blinked his multi colored eyes once more before rubbing the sleep from them. His green hair looked messy but upon further inspection it had a natural look to it. Rook popped his neck then heaved a sigh as he clutched his silver cross necklace. "Guess I'll wake the others."
Before he could stand he heard someone clear their throat. On instinct he grabbed for his pistol but relaxed once he saw who it was. Sitting across the room from him, cross legit was Jango. His eyes studied Rook for a few moments before blinking. "Let them sleep Rook, they didn't fall asleep until 1:33 am." Jango had pale skin making him look a bit ghostly, but this was also due to the lack of light where he was sitting. His jet black hair fell to the bottom of his neck but was combed and kept. He was wearing his signature indigo sleeveless sweater jacket, black tactical pants, and his matching face mask/scarf.
"Alright but we need to be out of here by 3pm." Rook reminded. Jango nodded then closed his eyes as he went back to meditating. Rook stood then glanced at his other two companions, Tizane was asleep on the other bed while Theron was asleep on the couch. Both were out cold but that was expected since they did most of the work this time around. Rook went to his bag and dug out a blue t-shirt that had a skull with the words REBEL RADIO, written across it. After sliding it on he slid on his olive drab army jacket then laced up his combat boots. He had left most of his gear in the car but the most he had on him was just enough to fill a duffle bag.
"I'm going to get some air," Jango said, causing Rook to look up. "I should be back momentarily." With that he opened the door to the room and stepped outside. Rook picked up his bag then grabbed the keys to the car, and made his way outside. The hotel they were staying at was out of the way and definitely not what you call four or five star. But it was good enough for a quick rest stop before they got back on the road again.
Rook made his way down a flight of stairs then out to the parking lot to a dark gray four door dodge charger. Next to it was a black kawasaki motorcycle that belonged to Jango; or rather took a liking to it and ended up keeping. Rook smirked at the thought but it didn't last long as he popped the trunk and placed his bag in. After closing it he felt an intense heat feeling behind him. On instinct Rook had his custom 1911 pistol in hand aiming it at the being before him.
Standing two feet away from him was a smirking man dressed in tan cargo shorts, blue muscle shirt, matching flip flops, and black sunglasses. He was about 5.11" putting him about an inch taller than Rook, had a bronze almost golden tan, golden hair, with inhumanly good looks. "Is that how you greet a friend?" The man asked as he practically blinded Rook with a smile.
Rook holstered his weapon so not to draw attention to them but kept a serious demeanor. "Just because you gave us a tip Apollo, doesn't make us friends." Rook replied as he stared definitely at the god.
Apollo casually shrugged off the comment. "You always were a stick in the mud, then again you're the one that usually talks to angels and such. I prefer speaking to Theron about these things," Apollo admitted.
Rook rolled his eyes then asked, "I'm going to assume you have another job for us?" This made Apollo chuckle to himself. Rook didn't find any of this amusing, in fact he kind of wished Theron was awake for this. His "people skills" were better than Rook's and Jango's combined and came in handy when dealing with immortal beings.
"Yes but are you up for the tasks," Apollo asked, raising a golden eyebrow. "I will pay you quite handsomely for your efforts but it all comes down to you accepting the offer."
Rook glared at the god as he knew he wouldn't be told what the job was until he accepted it. "Fine, we accept…"
"Fantastic," Apollo declared, gaining the attention of a few pedestrians that were passing by. "Now my lyre has been taken from me by a bunch of ingrate humans. Normally I'd blast them and be done with it but…"
"Zeus' rules about immortal killing mortals," Rook interrupted. "Consider it done once you give us the location." This caused Apollo to smile once again killing Rook's sight.
"I knew I could count on you four," Apollo smiled as he snapped his fingers sending Rook's mind the information of the location. "I'll see you shortly," Apollo waved then disappeared in a golden burst of heat.
Rook sighed heavily as he saw Jango approach him. "You heard," Rook asked, already knowing the obvious.
"Indeed, I was watching incase we'd have to subdue him." Jango replied in a scary calm tone. Rook smirked since he couldn't tell if he was joking or not. Jango stared at him blankly not seeing or realizing what Rook found amuzing.
"Come on let's wake the other and brief them on the job." Jango nodded then followed Rook back to the hotel room. It hadn't been two maybe three and a half hours, and they already had a god in their face asking for them to do a job. This was nothing new for them but what did confuse Rook was that mortals had Apollo's lure in their possession. Normally he'd shrug it off but godly items in people's hands were like handing a loaded gun to a monkey. At first glance it might not seem like such a big problem but once the monkey learns how to use the gun; it does a large amount of harm. That's what usually happens when common criminals and thieves stumbleupon devine items.
"Great, just when you think we're in the clear, we get hit with more work." Theron complained. He was sitting up on the couch now but at full height he was about 6.4" while being very muscular. His icy blue eyes still held a bit of sleep in them but was quickly rubbed out. His red hair was shaved low and had a small mohawk down the middle.
"Why are you complaining," Tizane asked from the bathroom. "You're usually happy about quick jobs like this." Tizane stepped out of the bathroom and walked over to her bag. She was wearing a sleeveless lavender flowing dress that came down to the tops of her knees. Slipped over her light bronzed arms was a small thin layered clothed coat that came down to the middle of her ribs. Theron rolled his eyes as she slid on black low heel boots that came just below her knees.
"I'm not complaining, I was just hoping for a bit more R&R before we accepted another job." Theron replied as he put on his own boots. They were brown steel toe ankle length construction boots, under tan cargo pants. "But it is what it is," He grumbled as he slipped on a white tank top. Once Theron and Tizane got done packing they each got in the car; while Jango got on his bike. Then sped off to the location Apollo had given them.
After a few hours they had arrived at a ghostly dock that looked abandoned, except for a few cargo containers and warehouse. After gaining access to the area they found two black SUV's parked behind the warehouse. Rook told Jango to do a bit of Recon to see how many enemies were waiting for them inside and how big of a threat they were. Jango nodded then split off from the group in search of an entry point. While he did this Rook went to the truck of the car and pulled out a case containing his Tac M200 sniper rifle.
After putting it together with ease Rook found Jango returning back. "So what are we up against?" Rook asked as he checked the sights on his weapon.
"Three sirens, and twelve men," Jango started. "The sirens should be an easy target so once they die the rest will be easy. Each man has either a pistol or automatic smg of some kind." Jango continued.
"However if we take out the lights we won't have to worry about that." Rook said as he activated the thermal on his scope. Jango nodded then looked at the other two who just shrugged.
"Since you two are going to be taking care of most of the work we'll just take care of the one you miss." Theron suggested as he noardly swung his hatches around. Tizane nodded in agreement as she began to shuffle a deck of razor bladed cards.
"Alright then get in position everyone." Rook ordered getting nods all around. Both Theron and Tizane stood outside the main entrance door, Jango was inside ready to cut the power while Rook found a cat walk that had a perfect view of the sirens. The warehouse looks crappy on the outside, but on the inside looked like a lavish house if you didn't pay attention to the human remains that were laid about. "3, 2, 1," Jango cut the lights causing the three sirens to gasp. Just as they did Rook fired off one shot killing a siren who was sitting on the couch eyeing Apollo's lyre. The other two were munching on what looked like human livers but thanks to their sudden shock, were quickly taken care of by Rook.
"Now it's time for some fun," Theron declared as he and Tizane bursted into the building. Thanks to a spell from Tizane both had temporary night vision and could see clear as day in the dark build. Theron charged the nearest enemy and quickly cut him down with two swift slashes. Tizane took out four as she quickly ran in and threw her cards with deadly accuracy. Jango on the other hand went from enemy to enemy stabbing and slashing them in any vital area he could. Before they knew it the warehouse was nothing but a mausoleum littered with fresh corpses.
"They fell like weak wheat against a farmer's scythe," Jango stated as he flicked the blood off his small sword. This caused Theron to laugh at the bad poetry while Tizane rolled her eyes annoyed.
"Challenge or not, at least we got what we came here for," Rook said, as he grabbed Apollo's lyre. Jango nodded in agreement as he and the other exited the building. Once they were out of the building they found Apollo leaning against their car with that stupid grin of his.
"Well now, I didn't think you'd catch them during their feeding time," Apollo laughed as he quickly snatched his lyre from Rook.
"So you knew this was a siren's nest," Rook demanded in an angry growl.
Apollo shrugged unfazed. "Maybe I did, maybe I didn't. The most important thing is I got my lyre back and can return back to Olympus and my nine muses." Rook gave Apollo a death glare who didn't seem to notice. Instead he disappeared once again leaving a suitcase of money for the four to split amongst themselves. This was just yet another average day for the four working as hunters. They have yet to scratch the surface of what truly awaits for them. It's only a matter of time before they each learn their place amongst the world.
