Chapter 8 - Night 1.3 (Weapons)

Enju along with Gly is back at camp once more. She sees the mother and kid along with remembering how their cabin is burnt to a crisp, should probably try and find them another one.

"How much do houses cost?" The mother looks up once again.

"Yo-you really don't need to trouble yourself I can live out in the forest."

"But it would be better to live under a roof..." Can this spatial bag be holding a house? Enju reaches into the bag with house in mind. Nothing comes out. Figures.

"Then I'm sorry to trouble you but please get a roof for my child." Selfless people... I don't understand why they can't be even a little greedy to live.

Enju goes back into town, she finds a little house not taken. Apparently they mark houses that haven't been taken with black flowers for the flower bed, anything else and the house is taken. Enju finds a basket at the front door hovering with a magic circle on the door. Enju takes out velvets and places it inside the basket. After the sixth velvet the basket flies off and the magic circle on the door decays.

Enju starts walking around town with her cloak on. In the skies lie the four beams of light. But on the ground she finds a crowd formed at what appears to be a government building. Another protest, looking around Enju sees two guards turning a blind eye to this. People are seen throwing rocks and such at the window.

Enju quickly leaves, I don't think it's worth it to be a magician and a fugitive in front of that crowd. She finds golems forming and walking over to the protest. Oh cmon, Enju instantly turns and explodes the golems from inside out before running back to the camp.

"Cmon I bought a home, and I'll prepare money for food and tax collectors." Enju starts walking back towards the house followed by the mother carrying the teen. Once they reach inside the house she finds a bow. The same one from her dream, it's hanging on the wall undisturbed. Enju walks to it but the bow suddenly disappears and ends up .down the hallway of the house. She walks up to the bow once again but it ends up further down the hallway to the right, Enju looks back to find a corner instead of the living room. She retraces her step only to end up looking at a split path both met by a corner.

What to do...

Enju finds her feet to be wet. The entire floor is filling up with water, Enju starts running around but each time the bow is just out of reach.

Think think think.. the water reaches up to her knees now.

I have a staff, a spatial pouch, and some cash. Enju reaches into her pouch looking for an oxygen mask or a stick. Neither on pops up, the water is up to her tummy now. She continues trying to find something, anything.

The water is now at her chest and she still can't think of anything. Her body is tightening up along with her wound slowly getting attacked at by the water causing her arm and leg to be in constant pain.

She looks at her staff and lifts the bow to her. The water disappears leaving only her scattered breathes remains. Her arm wound and leg wound's wrapping open back up and she can feel her skin burning from the fresh air. She keeps the screams in however and looks down at the bow. It's black with a red lining instead of gold, she finds a magic circle on the grip up front. Enju gives it a tap, an arrow appears from thin air on the string. Except the arrow doesn't seem to be fully physical but one of those magic arrow except it looks like it's on fire.

Don't shoot

Enju turns around again trying to find the voice. "Hello?" Then again the voice sounded like it was in her head. Maybe her body telling her to not shoot. Enju taps the circle again and the arrow fades.

Enju stands up and looks around, its another hallways but this time it leads into the living room. Enju enters the living room to find it a little more lively, food lays across the table with the mother having turned on a gramophone like creation. It's a slow tune but it's nice.

Enju walks up to the gramophone and checks out the machine. It has a disc with a magic circle on it, under it is another magic circle while there are little levers on the side of the machine. Enju presses down on one of the lever labeled with an up arrow. The volume increases, she takes a gander at how it changes and soon enough finds a chalk with a warmth to it. Along with magic circles on the side of the chalk, it seems to draw a like to change the sound.

"What's the difference between magicians and non-magicians?" Enju continues inspecting the gramophone.

"Ah you don't know? Well it's due to two criteria, one innate magical ability, you don't actually need this to be a magician but it's harder to become one without it. Two weapon loyalty." The mother is cooking some rice.

"Weapon loyalty?"

"Ah yes weapons created have their own personality and can choose who may use their power if they get a magic circle added to them, it could be a blank magic circle to let the weapon choose their abilities or it could be a specific magic circle."

"Then what does that have to do with becoming a magician? What do you need to have to be considered one?"

"Oh well the simplest way to tell the difference between them is if they can make and add magic to a magic circle. Most people don't take school but we can read and write as it's required our parents teach us how to. Only the ones fortunate enough to be a noble or have enough money have the ability to go to school."

"Then can you cast magic?"

"Casting magic? Do you mean using magic without a magic circle? Impossible you need magic circle to create magic, or an item with magic circle." So it's a lot like alchemy in full metal alchemist, now what else...

The mother hands over a plate of fried rice and some steak.

"What's your name and your child's name?."

"I would be lela, and banny over there hungrily watching you. Cmon and say hi to her."

Banny awkwardly waves and runs outside with a sort of saddened look. Enju finishes her meal and walks outside ready to test her bow. She moves over to a clearing in the middle of the forest. She taps the magic circle, once again a fiery arrow appears on the grip. Enju let's go of the string, the tail of the arrow glows red. It makes contact with the tree only to explode, but only the tree is obliterated. Everything including the ground is safe from the explosion, it looks like an implosion rather than an explosion. With the smoke and dust going back into where the arrow landed.

I should be careful with this... especially around people...

Enju turns at the feeling of someone watching and sure enough finds Banny at the edge of the forest clearing. He's watching in awe of what she just preformed, "what's your name miss?"

"Ah.." My name would be Enju but should I use that here? I don't know the name of this woman...

"My name would be Enju."

"H-how are you so strong?"

"I worked hard to be this strong." If I tell him I don't know then that would be a bit emb-

"But you didn't even know how magic worked."

"T-thats because I..."

"Where will you be going?"

"Well you see those beacons in the air? That's where."

"Well... my mom was scared to ask this but why do you have a dragon?"

"I'm raising him."

"That makes sense... I suppose... can I ask you one last thing?"

I really wish this kid was starved then he wouldn't talk so much. "What is it?"

"Can I come?"

"Come with... me?" Oh my....

"On an adventure yes." Banny is seen with a smile now.

I can't break this kids heart... but it'll be dangerous... "why?"

"I... want you to teach me magic, I want to protect my mom with magic. I wasn't able to before and I... I feel useless." Oh my goodness oh no... he's crying now... please no...

"A... ahem well... I under what you mean kid, wanting to protect your parents and all that. Yet as you've said I don't know magic. How could I teach you if I don't know magic?"

"We could learn together, magic is more about experience than learning and I could also improve my swordsmanship with you." The kid's eyes shine. An adventure, and the same will to protect his parent. This brown haired boy is just like me, I can't just turn him down...

"You might die and leave your mother sad."

"That just means I was too weak, too weak to live. Also you'll protect me right?"

This kid... he's annoying but right, with the same willpower as me... I can't just shoot down his dream.

"You're fourteen, and about to leave home to go on an adventure are you sure about this?"

"I've lived in the wood for 8 weeks alone before, I think I can handle it."

What kind of life...

"Ask your mom first, we're leaving tomorrow morning." Banny runs off skipping about.

Because I'm there... but I'm the same age as you. I want to see my life later on also...

Why did I say that...

Enju walks back towards the house, sluggishly. I don't want to die, I need to live long enough to see my past... yet. That kid is just like me, if it comes down to me or him I want to survive... it's unfair either way...

Gly can you hear my thoughts?

Of course.

Then what do you make of this? I'm lost again...

The strong protect the weak but if it comes down to it the strong must survive to protect more weak ones. Just like how the dragons sacrificed their eggs to run. To let the strong live on so they can protect more of our kind.

That's morally wrong though, that sounds greedy...

Yet it's the most logical conclusion unlike humans, we act more on logic.

I can't agree to that.

She finds the ground under her collapsing, with her staff on her back she's too slow to grab it and feels something piercing her back.

A spike comes out of her stomach, along with a flurry of pain all hitting her brain. She looks at the top to find two people in robes looking down at her.

Her body slowly stops moving and her consciousness fades. What the h...

She can feel herself waking up again. The sun shines bright in her eyes. Except it's not the sun but a headlight above her.

Enju turns her head to the side, a room with modern chairs and a little tube going into her hand.

She can't move her arm all too well and her chest hurts with every movement. Then she notices it, flowing to the side of the bed.
