As we observed the mermaid we noticed her tail was stuck underneath the boulder. Andrew and I worked together to try and lift the boulder off of her, but the boulder was too heavy. We tried to calm her down and show her that we were friendly just so she wouldn't attack us when we freed her.
Andrew and I resurfaced to put together a plan to lift the boulder off of her tail. We browsed around the boat looking for something to easily lift or pull the boulder off of her. As we were looking I noticed that there were some chains on the boat.
"Andrew look! We could use the chains over there to hook around the boulder and to the lift on the boat. I'll attach the boulder and when I yank on the chain you begin to real in the boulder until it's off of her," I explained to Andrew, "you should be able to tell whether or not the boulder is off of her or not."
"We have to make this one fast Claire because we only have two more minutes of air left in our take," said Andrew. "Alright Andrew I'll make it quick," I said.
I grabbed the chains and jumped back into the water. Andrew hooked the chains onto the lift while I hooked them around the boulder. There were a lot of loose chains, but it was fine. I yanked on the chains telling Andrew to start lifting the boulder off of her.
As he started reeling in the boulder I could see it lifting off of her tail. As the boulder was being lifted I noticed that one of the loops on the chains were about to break. If the chains broke now the boulder would fall on her crushing and injuring her even worse than what she is now.
As the boulder got higher and higher the loop had gotten weaker and weaker. Once it was high enough Andrew turned it off jumped in to help. I noticed that the lift was off, so I started toward the mermaid. As I got closer to her I heard a snap and noticed that the boulder was coming back down.
I swam as fast as I could and pulled her out from under the boulder's fall range. As soon as I got her out of there the boulder slightly hit my head as it came down me on the head leaving me with a slight headache.
As Andrew drew closer to us, I thought to myself and decided not tell him about the boulder hitting me on my head. That would just be another problem on his plate. Helping the mermaid is my top priority at the moment.
I looked at the mermaid and noticed she was injured as I held her up. Andrew swam towards us to help.
I gave her to Andrew so that he could take her to the surface. I looked around a little because I noticed that she dropped something when I saved her, but I don't know what. I started to run out of air, so I stopped looking and decided to resurface.
I begin to swim up to the surface, but as I swam up I felt a tug on my leg. I looked down and noticed that some of the loose chains that were wrapped around the boulder were wrapped around my leg.
I struggled to get the chains off of me. I panicked as I began to run out of air. I panicked so much that I ended up blowing out the rest of my air. I used the last of my energy to try and get them off, but they wouldn't budge. I gave up.
I closed my eyes.
"Wow. Am I really going to die this way? I never even gotten the chance to tell my family that I love them one last time. I never really had a chance to confess my feelings to my crush. The worst one of all is that I never found my biological parents," I thought to myself as I was slowly dying.
As I was slowly fading in and out, I saw a silhouette of a figure swimming towards me. I used the last of my energy to recognize that it was Andrew.
