Chapter 4 - First Day Troubles

The opening ceremony for new junior students went by without a hitch. Leon and the rest of the student council successfully completed their tasks and was glad for it to over. But after the ceremony is done, the members of Student Council body were tasked with one more thing before the actual class starts – that is the mandatory student inspection.

Every Monday, they were tasked to observe every student who passes the school gates to check if they are following the school's proper uniform and attire. White Excelsior Academy prided itself as the institution that molds the future foundation of society and that means even rich and prestigious students are expected to be prim and proper when it comes to etiquette and manners.

Regular classes start at eight-thirty, and students would be flowing in around eight to eight-fifteen and that's when the student council do their respective job. Every student who gets caught in violation must report to the guidance office and complete mandatory community service as punishment.

Students flow in as they walked calmly to the main gates over to the main building where all the academic classes were held. Some council members are stationed near the parking lot entrances in order to check for the students who go to school via vehicle. Leon was stationed by the front gate together with River on the further side before the main building's locker area.

"Good morning, Leon!" A female 3rd year senior greeted.

"Good morning to you too." Leon greeted back.

"He greeted me back…" She smiled as she whispered to her friend.

More students calmly entered the school grounds and it's nearing eight-thirty, when River went over to Leon's spot.

"A couple more minutes and we're free," River whispered beside Leon.

"My thoughts exactly."

"Oh boy, here they come..." River sighed frustratingly as he shook his head left to right.

The only person who can make River cringe and make that comment is none other than Mark Excelsior and his so called friends. Spoiled brat to the core, he likes to play the bully and delinquent all the time. He's actually a senior (though he looks like the type which cannot pass any of his classes but Physical Education), he's also the grandson of the owner of White Excelsior Academy. Because of his connection, most students does not dare go against him as they are afraid that Mark can pull the strings behind and ruin their school life and even the business of their family. Even the teachers have given up on him at this point.

Mark chooses his victims carefully, only picking those who's businesses are smaller than theirs and those students who are under scholarship, like Leon.

"Yo! Leon! What's your roar today? Hahaha! Did you get it? Leon.. Lion.. Roar.." Mark exclaimed.

'Honestly, like a bug. All I can hear are his incessant and unintelligent buzzing. I have no time for his nonsense,' Leon thought.

"What? Cat got your tongue?" Mark teased.

"Hey, can you stop this? You're breaking school rules, your hair dye is still too bright, and you know that piercings are prohibited. Please button your shirt all the way up and wear your identification card at all times." River interjected.

"Hey, Pres. Can you shut up? I was talking to Leon, or has he gone deaf? Maybe he's just a pussy? Can't stand up on his own? Huh?" Mark said in a mocking manner.

Leon detected River's frustration. But things like these don't get to him anymore. He has been subjected to these kind of situations before and one thing he learned is not to give the reaction that would give them satisfaction. Leon was one of the people who was not scared of Mark and his influence. He believes that between the two of them, just one look and they'll see that Mark is in the wrong and not him. If the situation goes out of hand, all Leon needs is a substantial evidence and talk directly to the school director. 'If he is really an esteemed person like he says he is, he should do what's right or his reputation is at stake. Imagine handling the education of the soon-to-be elites, priding oneself in making the new generation fruitful, fail to discipline one student, not to mention his own grandson,' Leon thought.

"I apologize, for I cannot comprehend insect language. Come back once you've learn that of humans and once you've learn how to properly dress like one." Leon walked away and River followed suit.

"Damn, Leon. You were savage!"

"I said nothing but facts though. Anyway, time for class."

As they headed to the building, Mark clicked his tongue in anger but the sound was masked with the ringing of the bell, signaling the start of class. Mark swore to get his revenge against Leon for humiliating him.

The entire day was spent on pretty much just introductions; to new classmates, professors and introduction to subject matters. At lunch, Leon remembered receiving a message from Lean telling him to go home early, and Leon planned on doing so but, his luck seems to have run out.

Just after classes ended, Mr. Rex, Leon's science and homeroom teacher caught him and asked Leon to do a little favor for him. No teacher has ever asked for a 'little favor', '...because it was never anything little,' he thought.

"Would you please tidy up the science lab room? I was thinking of doing that today, but unfortunately, I have an urgent business to attend to. Just organize the stuff there and y'know, do a lil' bit of cleaning, we will be using the lab room tomorrow too.." Mr. Rex explained.

'Damn it. No rest for the wicked, huh.' Leon thought momentarily before answering, "Sure, Mr. Rex. I'll do it for you." Leon smiled. 'I'll be sure to think of something grand in return for this,' he thought.

"Thanks Leon. I'll be going now. Good luck with that, kiddo!" Mr. Rex said as he hurriedly left.

'Good luck? What does he mean by that?' Leon was left with momentary confusion as he entered the Lab Room and realized just why luck was needed. "How filthy is this! This would take a while for sure..." Leon said in a depressed manner and sighed deeply. "Let's just get this over with, then." He said in attempts to ignite his diligence.
