Being sent away because, someone you love; I think it's a bit much but I do remember it, it was like it was yesterday. The summer wind was blowing, then a school bell rang; It was time for summer time for getting in trouble for fun, meeting up with friends at the lake or going fishing which I know is a "guy" thing but hey. I remember going home, dad was working on the car that kept breaking down "Happen again huh Dad?" I asked him. He chuckled and nodded "Stone age piece of junk, I'm going to take to the chop shop." My dad joked, I went in the house where mom was talking to the neighbor from down the street "I heard they just moved in." They gossiped. I genuinely wasn't interested in gossip but everyone in this town was, I walked upstairs to find my little brother playing with letter blocks and trying to spell words emphasis on the trying "keep it going bud! maybe one day you'll actually spell a word!" He clapped and laughed. When I got to my room, it was full of pictures of flowers and Nature. I always wanted to be a photographer, taking pictures of animals and people. I looked in the mirror at my medium length curly blonde hair, my body was slender. I wore glasses and braces, I smiled to look at them to make sure they were good.
I basically was your typical nerd, but I didn't care. I knew I was beautiful, I played with my jelly bracelets. I decided to get dressed and go out, I made sure to finish my chores for my mom. She thanked me as I ran out the house, dad told me to be home before dark. I agreed and got on my bike and rode away, I loved bike riding. I saw a u-haul moving truck a few houses down, I stopped to see who was moving in. There was a man and woman, a little girl and a boy? No that was a girl right? The little girl yelled "Pick me up Jess!" Jess? Boy name right. Jess did pick the little girl up, they were tan and dark headed. I couldn't believe that someone could be so beautiful/handsome, I was so confused by this. I went back to riding my bike, I tried to forget this Jess person. I couldn't though, I genuinely couldn't. Maybe a good night's sleep will help, I rode home. The ride was great, except for the Jess part. At dinner, my parents discussed the new neighbors and mom thought that we should have block party to welcome them. Dad didn't agree "This is a poor neighborhood, they look wealthy....we shouldn't mess with them." Mom nodded. I ate my dinner, I really wasn't interested in the whole neighbor thing. After dinner, I got ready for bed. Dad came in my room to kiss me goodnight, I smiled "I love you dad." He smiled "I love you too Pumpkin." I laid there that night, sleep not wanting to take me. Maybe I wasn't tired, so I got up and wrote in my journal. I looked outside and saw the new neighbor girl or boy, they were walking around. I got intrigued and snuck out to see them, I hid away so they couldn't see me. They looked behind them, I remained silent. They chuckled "You don't have to hide, come say hi." Their voice is like caramel. I came out of hiding, they approached me with a smile that was so dreamy. I blushed and played with my hair, they spoke again "I'm Jess, I'm new to this neighborhood." I nodded "I'm Bethany but you can call me Beth." Jess smiled more "Beth, I like that name." I blushed more. They must have noticed and chuckled, Jess had a deeper voice so that means they're a boy? I didn't want to ask cause that's embarrassing, so I'm not going to assume here. We talked through the night, they were from California but why are they here in Oklahoma? Jess explained that their dad had business here, so they had to move but they were stay for the whole summer and Jess was excited about that. They said that always wanted to leave the city, it was too big and crowded. I just listened to them talk, I was in love with their voice. There just was something about how it sounded, I can still remember it to this day so smooth and sweet like caramel. I loved hanging out with them, they were funny. Jess couldn't stop making jokes, they were making me laugh and snort. it had been a while since I laughed like that, I found Jess legitimately funny. I knew I had to go home, but I didn't want to. This was new to me, what was this feeling? Jess looked at me and smiled, they acted like I was the first to laugh at their jokes or something. Jess then said "You're the first person that's just hung out with me Beth, it feels amazing to be liked and have my jokes get laughed at." I looked at them, this was very confusing "Don't you have any friends Jess?" they shook their head and looked at me with sorrow. I hugged them, I decided right then and there that I was going to be their friend. Jess hugged me back and said something about it getting late, I kinda agreed but wanted to stay with them. I actually looked at the time and panicked, I then remembered that I had snuck out. Jess chuckled "I'll take you home Beth, don't worry hun." They grabbed my hand and we walked to my house, I looked at them "Maybe we can hang out tomorrow?" Jess nodded and smiled "I'd like that Beth, goodnight hun." They kissed my cheek and left. I snuck back in and went to bed, I dreamt about Jess that night and it was a wonderful dream.
