Chapter 3
Oceana
" If opportunity doesn't knock, build a door." - Milton Berle
I closed my eye as the sun rose. The wind, I felt in my hair. I welcomed the new day. Being lonely is hard… I miss my family. I thought. I started to drag my feet to my home. I live far out in the forest. I am a cyclops, but we aren't actually giants. We are actually normal sized, maybe a bit taller.
On my way home, I was able to get some breakfast. Nothing fancy. Just the food some person leaves out for me. Though sometimes I scavenge for food. I guess they want to get photographic evidence that I exist. I walked through a tree alley. I'm pretty sure it's haunted, but I enjoy their company.
Through the forest, I saw some familiar faces. There was that lumberjack that got hit by a tree, a couple of ghost cats, a ghost dog (tencally mine), and a little kid. " Come here Biscuit." I called with my soft and gentle voice. The ghost dog came floating over as fast as he could. Once he got to me, he flew up to my face and started to lick it. It was cold like a winter day and it tickled like my sister used to tickle me. I smiled. He followed me the rest of the way home
He had this cute expression on his face. I could tell he wanted to stay. " You know, I won't kick you out. You can stay." right when I said that, he knocked me down to the ground, licking my face.
" Well, well. Look who has a dog now. Weren't you told that they were a lot of responsibility?" asked a familiar voice behind me. I turned around and saw my older sister, Roxy.
" Y-You trator." I said as tears filled my eye. Roxy had armour on. She shook her head.
" Ok I can tell you're still mad at me. I get it." her face had a stone cold expression. " Listen, you don't like me and I don't necessarily like you."
" What do you mean? How do you know that?" more tears filled my eye. " I might be furious with you but it doesn't mean I despise you."
" I see your vocabulary has improved."
" Leave. I don't want to see you." I said as I started to cry. " You took everything from me. Why are you even here?" she smiled.
" Oh, I'm just here. Here to stop you." she said.
" W-What?" I squealed.
" Oh, don't worry about a thing." she smirked. I knew better. The next day, I packed my things and relocated, Biscuit followed. On my way there, I found a flying device with a camera following me. I threw a rock at it. It fell.
" What was that?" I asked myself. Unlike my sister, I'm not used to modern technology. I shook my head and fixed my braid. I usually have my hair up in a bun or down but today, today was the start of a new me. Well, I might have my way back the way it was before, but right now it's in a braid. Suddenly, I heard some beeping coming from my things I packed. I searched through them. It was some sort of device. I threw it to the ground and stepped on it. It was crushed. I continued on. Biscuit was still following me. 12 hours of gruesome walking and a couple of breaks have passed. I looked out at the sky. It was a long day.
" Night already?" I asked myself. " Guess we need a shelter, huh?" I said as I looked down at Biscuit. He wagged his tail. " Alrighty then." I looked around. I saw a cave. I went over to check it out. " No one there," I said as I signaled Biscuit to come into the cave. I built a small fire for warmth. Biscuit was fine, but I was freezing. The nights are frigid and long. All I had on was my T-shirt and jeans. I looked through my pictures and found some of Roxy.
" How did a little delight become so dark and grim…" I told myself, and maybe Biscuit listened. I shook my head and went to the next photo. It was a picture of Roxy, Glenn, Cidney, Marly, and me. Glenn is my younger sister. She lived a house down from me, until now at least. Cidney is my second oldest sister. Only 4 years younger than Roxy. Marly is the youngest of all. My baby brother. We had contact until it happened. A day I could never forget. The day the little delight became grim.
