Its recess for 7 year old Madeleine who is playing with her friends in the sand box, she is a beautiful girl with red hair, emerald green eyes and porcelain skin but despite that she doesn't have a lot of friends. Madeleine has always enjoyed just keeping to herself, spare 2 or 3 close companions. Right now she's playing with 2 of her friends from kindergarten until there is a high pitched shriek, Madeleine, along with the rest of the kids on the playground, look over to the source of the noise to see a girl on the ground with one of the snotty nosed boys pulling her hair.
"Aw no, does newbie have a booboo?" the boy, Danny- Madeleine thinks his name is, sneers at the girl. While most of the children go back to playing, Madeleine makes her way over to where Danny and the still nameless girl are.
"Just leave her alone Danny." her squeaky voice demands, prompting the young boy to look over at her.
"It's none of your business Madeleine." he tells her.
"Maybe not, but it's definitely Miss Graham's business. And who knows, maybe it's your parents' business too. How would they feel to get another call home about your behaviour?" she says without missing a beat, looking at him coolly. Despite her young age, Madeleine was surprisingly eloquent and often found herself using her words to get herself and others out of bad situations, such as the bullying of the girl in front of her who was looking up at her in awe.
Danny groans in annoyance, "Fine." he goes to walk away but Madeleine raises an eyebrow at him, he looks at the small girl on the ground, "I'm sorry." he says begrudgingly before leaving.
The girl, who Madeleine could now get a good look at, had black- no, raven hair and piercing blue eyes which were still observing the girl who had aided her in getting rid of the big oaf who was harassing her.
"Are you okay?" the question seemed to startle the girl as she quickly looked away from Madeleine, probably realising that she was staring. Her blue orbs remained focused on the ground until a small hand was in front of her, offering to help her up. She took it hesitantly and ,once she was stood up properly, brushed herself off.
"I'm okay. Thanks for helping me, I guess." she still wasn't looking at Madeleine, out of embarrassment mostly, she didn't like being a victim.
"I'm Madeleine." her cheery voice announces, smiling at the raven haired girl.
"And I didn't ask." the girl says. Madeleine's smile falters for a second before returning to her face in full force.
"I know," she starts, "but I figured you could use someone to hang out with since I haven't seen you before. You're new right?"
"Yeah." the raven haired girl grumbles.
"What's your name?" the cheery red-head asks, however the girl doesn't answer. The lack of response seemed to upset Madeleine who gave the girl one last tight smile before slowly turning around ti walk away. The other girl scrunches her eyes closed before responding to Madeleine's earlier question.
"Zoe." she says, which earns Madeleine's attention, causing her to stop walking and turn around to face the other girl.
"My name's Zoe."
