Chereads / Jade's Engagement / Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

Chapter 2 - Chapter 1

"So... have you spoken to him yet?" Lily asked while batting her eyelids at Jade.

"Him?? who?" Jade Garcia continued to work on her drawing board, diligently designing a necklace. "Who are you talking about?"

There was a long and gusty sigh-one that had Jade fighting to keep her lips from twitching. She knew her first-floor neighbor and best friend Lily Evans well enough and understood exactly who she was referring to.

"The gorgeous guy that just moved in next door...Durrrh... Don't pretend like you don't know who I'm talking about. Come on Jade, he moved in a week ago and hasn't said a word to anyone. But you live right next to him. We need some details here."

"I've been pretty busy with drawing the new sets of jewelry designs." Jade flicked a glance up, watching lily, with her expressive blue eyes. "Hardly noticed him."

Lily's first response was a snort. "Oh please, let's be real girl you notice everything and you notice everyone. Nothing gets by you without you knowing."

"He doesn't even have a name on the mailbox yet. And nobody ever sees him leave the building during the day. Not even Mrs. Jenna and nobody gets by her." Lily said.

"He's probably a vampire or something supernatural, some sort of night-walking creature." Jade created a monstrous expression on her face.

"Really??..a vampire?..well even if he's a vampire wouldn't that be awesome?" Lily asked as she danced around the living room swaying her hips from side to side.

"Yeah, it would be so awesome" Jade replied sarcastically, and continued to prep her drawing, as lily continued dancing.

It never bothered Jade to have company while she worked. The fact was, she enjoyed it. She'd never been one for isolation and working in silence. It was part of the reason she was happy living in New York. Although, she wouldn't be here for a long time because she will return to Spain soon and start working as the creative designer of her family's Jewelry business "The Garcia Gemstones". Her Father Heads the company while her elder sister Ruby is currently the vice president of the company. Her younger sister Amethyst who is one of the top models in the world is the face of the company.

She doesn't want to work for the company but she has to because that was her mother's last wish. Her mother used to be the creative designer of the company before she lost her life. Jade made a deal with her father to travel to New York where she wouldn't be known as a rich heiress and work anywhere she wants for two years before she takes her place in the company and he agreed. Her time in New York is almost up, she has been in New York for a year and six months.

"Haven't you ever run into him once in the hall?" Lily wanted to know.

"Honestly lily, Yes I have seen him once." Jade replied..."This one time I saw him leave the building during the day time-which rules out his vampire status." Jade said.

"You have? Really?" Lily asked "When? Where? How?"

"When? Dawn. Where? Heading east on Grand. How? Insomnia." Getting into the gist, Jade's eyes danced with amusement. "Well, I Woke up early, and I kept thinking about the leftover brownies from the party the other night." She explained.

"They're special brownies indeed girl," Lily agreed.

"Yeah, so I couldn't get back to sleep until I ate some. Since I was up already, I decided to come in here to work on the jewelry designs for a while, and then I ended up just standing by the window looking around. That's when I saw him go out of the building. You can't miss him. He tall though must be six-four. And those shoulders..." Both women rolled their eyes in appreciation.

"Anyway, he was carrying a gym bag and wearing grey slacks and a white sweatshirt, so my deduction was he was heading to the gym to work out. You don't get those kinda shoulders by lying around eating chips and drinking beer all day."

"Aha! I knew it" Lily speared a finger in the air. "You are interested."

"Oh please, I'm not a dead lily. The man is dangerously gorgeous, so what's a girl to do but wonder?"

"Why wonder? Why don't you just go knock on his door and, take him some cookies or something? Welcome him to the neighborhood. Then you can find out what he does in there all day if he's single, what he does for a living... If he's single. What-" She was interrupted by Jade.

"Alright I get it, all you care about is to know if the guy is single." They both burst into laughter.

"You're the one who's drooling over him jade. I don't care if he is single or not, I've got my guy."

"Yeah yeah, how's he anyway?" Jade asked.

"He is fine, he is coming over tonight to pick me up," Lily replied.

"Awwwwwwn, love birds."

"You should find a sweetheart too jade. I'm concerned about your love life."

Jade rolled her eyes "You're back to this talk again lily. I'm fine really, you shouldn't be too concerned about it."

"Tomorrow we're going out for lunch and my cousin Jason is gonna be there," Lily said.

Jade rolled her eyes at the thought. "I've got work to do, I don't think I'll be available for lunch."

"I'm not taking no for an answer, bye. "

" Alright. " Jade managed to smile as Lily left her apartment.

Having dinner with Lily's tedious and annoying cousin Jason is something she can't put up with. When was she going to develop a backbone and tell Lily to stop trying to fix her up with a man?

What was this obsession with Lily and always trying to find her a man?

She was twenty-four, single and happy. Not that she didn't want a family one day. And maybe a nice house out in the burbs somewhere with a yard for the kids. And the dog. There'd have to be a dog. Well asides from that, She liked her life right now very much.

Resting her elbows on her drawing board, she propped her chin on her fists and gave in enough to stare out the window and allow herself to daydream. Must be spring, she mused, that was making her feel so restless and full of nervous energy.
