"VER!"
I wasn't fast enough to stop him from falling. By the time he hit the ground he was passed out.
"OWEN!"
Owen turned around his eyes widening as he took in Vers still form.
"Shit Ty look after Malix."
Owen rushed over checking Vers wounds. He shook his head.
"I don't understand their not deep."
"She...she bit him."
Malixs voice was gravelly but it made Owen bend down to listen to his heart.
"Shit!"
"What is it? What's happening to him?"
Owens eyes met mine a grave expression on his face.
"Poison."
That's when I remembered what Malix had said. Raines canines held poison. I growled in anger clenching my fists.
"How could she did this? He was helping her?"
Malix who had started to sit up coughed more blood trying to talk.
"...wasn't...her...fault...."
I scowled at him.
"How can you say that? Every where she goes she brings death. Look at what she did to you, someone she's supposed to love. You can't still think shes on our side!"
Owens hand reached for my shoulder his calming effects washing over me.
"Nows not the time to loose your cool Slo. Come on we need to get these two upstairs and try not to move Ver too much you'll only spread the poison more."
It wasn't easy getting both Malix and Ver upstairs they were both built like a brick shithouse which made things difficult but we got there in the end. While Malixs gash extended from his abdomen to his collar bone was deep it wasn't life threatening. Ver however had developed a high fever which was unheard of in wolves. We didnt get sick so it made the poison even more frightening.
"There has to be something we can do?"
Owen had sedated Malix so that he could repair the damage to his lung and stitch up the wound on his chest so we couldn't even ask him if he knew the antidote.
"I'm doing the best I can Slo but I've never seen anything like this before. It's like the poison is attacking his power draining his wolf genes. Ive taken samples from under the wound but so far no luck. Our only chance is if Raine gains back control and comes back."
I growled frustrated with all of this. Just when I was starting to think she wasn't such a bad person she goes and does this. I'm such an idiot. I should have insisted on having more of us present while he was entering her mind. If Ver makes it through this I don't care what he says the truce is over. She's too dangerous to have around.
"I'm going out to look for her if we let her get too far she won't make it back in time."
I started to leave when when red hair filled my vision.
"I'll come with you."
I shook my head.
"No way Cora I'm not letting you any where near her. Not when she's out of control like this."
Cora gritted her teeth her hands going to her hips.
"I won't go near her but you'll have a better chance of finding her if I search from the skies."
I tried to protest again but she cut me off.
"Slo we don't have time to argue Ver needs help and she's the only one who knows the antidote."
"She right Slo I have no way of knowing how fast acting this poison is but I'd rather get the antidote to him sooner rather then later or we risk permanent damage."
I scowled at both of them but knew they were right.
"Argh fine come on let's go."
"Wait!"
All three of us spun around as Malix turned to sit up.
"I'm coming with you."
"Like hell you are I didn't spend an hour fixing you up just to have you injure yourself again."
Owen gently pushed him back down. Malix didn't even have the strength to fight back as he fell back to the bed. His eyes met mine an intensity in them that I found it hard to look away.
"Please Slo take it easy on her I know she didn't mean to do any of it. I'm sure there's an explanation for why she lost control."
I groaned annoyed with his loyalty to her. I mean come on I know she's his mate but look what she did to him there's no way he just shrugged it off as no big deal.
Sensing my thoughts his voice softened.
"Just give her a chance to explain that's all I'm asking."
Before I could even argue the point the door to the infirmary burst open. Roake entered with A naked Raine in his arms. When he took in the scene around him his eyes widened in shock. When he saw Malix his shock turned to anger.
"What the hell happened here?!"
Owen ignored his outburst rushing to Take Raine from Roake. He laid her gently on the bed and check her vitals. She was battered and bruised and bleeding from her head. Malix got shakily out of bed glaring at his father when he tried to stop him. His eyes stared at Raine in anger. Spinning on his father he growled.
"What do you do to her?!"
Roake stared daggers back.
"What I had to do she was crazed when we came across her. It took ten of us to bring her down. She was like a wolf animal the only reason we did manage to knock her out was because she become the wild without any of her normal skills. It took all we had not to completely kill her."
Malix groaned when he moved but despite his pain he managed to reach her side.
"So is anybody going to tell me what the fuck happened?"
Since the other two were busy it fell to me to explain. Roake only got angrier with each word of my recount.
"That idiot he should of had all of us there to stop her. She warned him, the fact that she needed to be tied down at all should have had him worried."
"Both of you enough it does do anyone any good to let your tempers run. If your not going to help the situation then get out."
Abashed I glared briefly at Roake then moved forward to help Owen with Raine. As much as I was angry with her for what she had done we needed her to save Ver.
Roake leaned against the wall near Raines bed but far enough out of the way. His eyes never left her still form, I knew that he was ready to pounce any minute if she so much as moved.
"She we restrain her just in case she's still wild when she wakes up."
"No!"
Malix glared at me.
"What do you thing started all this. Restrain her and your guaranteeing she'll wake up pissed."
I snarled at him.
"What do you suppose we do then?!"
Malix rose to his full height. He had to be in pain but he certainly wasn't showing it.
"You boy will get out! Your neither helping nor needed."
My canines burst out my eyes glowing in anger.
"IM NOT LEAVING MY BROTHER WHILE THAT MONSTERS IN THE SAME ROOM."
That was the first time I'd ever seen Malix snap. His claws were out and before I could even move out of the way he threw me against the wall. The plaster caved in behind me from the force of it. Before I even had a chance to recover he punched me knocking me to the ground. Roake tried to stop him but he was too strong. Grabbing my collar he lifted me up slamming me against the wall his own canines out.
"Call her a monster again and I don't care who's brother you are I'll kill you."
I glared at him. I had no hope of beating him. Even injured as he was he was a force to be reckoned with. Roake had given up trying to stop Malix. Owen however put a calming hand on both of us.
"This is not the place for this."
While Malix was angrier then I'd ever seen him he was still calm. He had even more control over his wolf then Owen, which was saying something. However it was that control which made him so terrifying. It's the calm silent anger that would be enough to make anyone back down. Was this the true power of a Lycan?
Malix let me go roughly tossing me to the side his canines already retracted.
"Get out boy if you stay I won't be able to hold back."
I glanced at Owen who dipped his head.
"Go Slo I'll keep Ver safe you have my word."
I glanced one last time a Malix his yellow eyes pulsing with power. My jaw hurt like hell and blood was already dripping from a slit lip. Growling quietly I headed for the door. Before I left completely I faced Malix.
"If Ver dies I'll kill her."
I didn't wait for a reply slamming the door behind me. I started to leave but I just couldn't bring my self to do it. What if Ver never wakes up? What if Raine attacks him again? I clenched my fists fuck Malix if I'm not allowed in the room I'm staying right here just in case. I slid to the floor my back against the wall. Just like how I felt. backed against a wall unable to help, unable to do anything. Just like when our parents died. I'm wasn't strong enough not then and not now. I'm useless, no matter how hard I try my family keeps getting hurt. What could I do? How could I help him?
"Slo?"
Cora rushed towards me taking me in her arms her hands going to the bruise that was no doubt forming on my cheek.
"What happened?"
I shrugged avoiding her eyes. The last thing i wanted her to see was me getting beat up by another male.
"Nothing I'm fine."
Frowning sadly she wrapped her arms around me.
"It'll be alright Slo. Ver will be fine, your not going to loose him."
I felt like a child burying my face in her neck trying to hide the tears forming in my eyes. Great now I was crying like some little kid. I was pathetic.
"It's ok to cry Slo I'm not going to think any less of you."
Something wet touched my cheek, snapping back I saw tears flowing down her cheeks. Was she crying because of Ver or because I was?
I shook my head it didn't matter what the reason swing her cry made me realise I can do something. I can be here before them. Just being there knowing I'm thinking of them is helping. Cupping her face I wiped her tears away.
"Please don't cry Cora. There's only room for one baby in this relationship."
She laughed slapping my arm.
"Your such an idiot."
I pulled her in touching my lips to hers then wrapping her in my arms stroking her hair.
"Thank you Cora."
I saw her smile just before she huddled in closer. We stayed like that taking comfort in each other's arms. I didn't know what was going to happen but I knew we'd be there for each other. My eyes gazed at the closed door as a preyed that Ver would be alright. He just had to be.
