Chereads / The Red Eyed King / Chapter 11 - 11. Sloane

Chapter 11 - 11. Sloane

After Ereni had taken Kan out to the car I turned to Ty scowling.

"For once Vers right Ty. Kan's been through enough she's doesn't need you to add to it."

Ty had the nerve to act like he didn't know what I was talking about but even I could smell the desire he had for her.

"Come on Sloane I can't help how my body reacts to a female that looks like that."

He pointed towards where Kan had disappeared.

"I'm male after all."

I grabbed him by the collar my teeth bared in a growl.

"I know you Ty when you take a liking to a female you do everything within your power to have her and once you have you throw them away like yesterday's garbage. Stick to your orders, when it comes to Kan she's off limits you hear me?"

He glared at me which only proved my point that he wanted her. Roughly he pulled out of my grasp.

"Fine but it's a crying shame she looks like she doesn't tame easy."

I raised my fist and punched him in the jaw. He stumbled back from the force of it. Turning back he stared at me in surprise.

"Say something like that about her again and I won't stop at one punch."

I watched him hold his hands up in surrender.

"Alright fine I get it ok I won't touch her."

He started for the door while I took a second to calm down. Ty wasn't a bad guy for the most part he was just a dick when it came to females. He enjoyed the challenge too much. If there was a female who resisted his charms it only made him want her more.

I growled once more before following Ty out the door. Ereni and Grunter stood saying good bye to Kan not wanting to interrupt I mouthed thank you to them as I climbed into the back seat. The second I saw Ty in the drivers seat I instantly felt the anger again. Turning towards Kan she was about to say something when Owen appeared to say his good byes distracting her. For that I was glad I really was not in the mood to explain anything her.

Once everyone was in the car we were on our way home. Ver and the others had taken wolf form and would most definitely beat us there. It was a good thing too since I had no wish to be away from Kan with everything that had happened. I only wish that she didn't have to be treated like the enemy. But Ver was right after everything that he'd said i needed to start thinking like an alpha.

Thinking about that conversation only reminded me of what he'd said about his power. It was true that he sometimes seemed to be taken over by it but it didn't make sense. Why would there be a king if the power he was given would eventually take him away? The time of a werewolf king is meant to symbolise peace. I mean sure with the lunar eclipse pack it was anything but peaceful but still. What wasn't he telling me. Why is his power so dangerous? Surely there was a way to stop it from taking over. If would be pointless to create a king if all they got was a shortened life.

Not only that what happened when it did take him? Did it kill him? Or did something else happen that would mean I would have to take over as alpha? All these questions had me worried. There must be more to it all that Vers hiding. Did it have something to do with our parents dying?

From what I knew the lunar eclipse pack attacked the silver moon pack seemingly for no reason wiping them out. The only survivor being Owen who had already pledged himself to Ver as his beta. Ver was eighteen at the time and since the red eye pack had been close with the silver moon pack they retaliated. However as Ver was attacking the lunar eclipse pack half of their forces had gone to our home and attacked those left behind which included our parents and me.

That was ten years ago I was six at the time and I only survived because my parents hid me under the floor boards in the attic. By the time Ver found me our parents were dead.

After that Ver started to change. He spent most of his time trying to track down the lunar eclipse pack. Then four years ago he completely lost it one day. That was when things took a turn for the worst. He went mad with rage his wolf took over and that's when most of the rumours about him being a tyrant started. He killed anybody who had anything to do with the lunar pack. Even killing those who associated with them. He was a different person and ever since then he was more alpha then my brother.

Something touching my hand made me jump ripping me from my thoughts. Looking up Kan stared back her hand was in mine.

"Is everything alright?"

From the corner of my eye I could see Owen listening in. Seems he was just as suspicious as Ver. Holding back my anger I smiled at Kan. Her blue eyes glanced at the others understanding. She squeezed my hand and sat back a silent conversation meaning we'd talk later.

I sighed considering Ty's orders are to be stuck to her like glue there will probably never be a chance to talk privately. However judging by the wink Kan gave me and the mischievous smile she obviously wasn't going to let that stop us from finding I way to talk.

As the pack house came into view Kans eyes widened. I guess I was so used to it I took for granted the sheer size of it. Kan however seemed to look back at me in a new light.

"You live here?"

I nod taking in the three story building complete with east and west sides that were attached to the main section. It was for lack of a better word a mansion, but considering the size of the red eye pack that sometimes held summits with all the alphas of America it wasn't really a surprise that it needed to be big.

I shrug smiling awkwardly as she returns her gaze towards the house her face darkening. Ver stood at the top of the stairs waiting for us.

"Great your alpha king."

It was then that I realised she still didn't know that Ver was my brother. Owen eyes met mine probably thinking the same as me if she was going to live here best that she hears the truth from me.

"Well actually he's not just my alpha..."

Her eyes met mine as I continued.

"He's my brother."

Her mouth opens in shock her eyes going to Ty and Owen who both nod in confirmation. Turning back to me she punches me in the arm groaning as it pulls at her wounds.

"What the fuck Slo don't you think that's something your supposed to tell your best friend?!"

Rubbing my arm where she punched I shrug.

"Would it have changed anything?"

She groaned making me think I missed something.

"Of course not but if I had of known that I would never have called him a tyrant around you. All those times I tried to get you to leave the pack to travel with me. I never would have done that if I'd known he was your brother."

I stared at her confused.

"I don't get it."

Rolling her eyes she explained.

"He's your brother Slo I should never have insulted him in front of you and I never would have tried to convince you to leave him. I know I wouldn't appreciate you telling me to leave my family if I had one. I'm sorry Slo I never would have done that if I'd known."

My eyes met Owens who seemed to be surprised by her response. Maybe now he'll realise that she isn't the enemy they all thought she was.

Returning my gaze towards Kan I smiled waving her words off.

"Don't worry about it Kan trust me I know how much of a dick my brother can be and as for the other stuff I think deep down you always knew I'd never leave the red eye pack so no harm done."

Ty stopped the car halting our conversation as Kan's door was flung opened. Ver reached in and roughly pulled her out. Her Yelp of pain had me jumping out of the car but when I got near Ver snarled at me stopping me in my tracks. Kan however wasn't as quick to obey if her growl was any indication. He ignored it as he started to pull her inside, again I tried to follow but Owen held me back.

"Stop Sloane."

I glared at him his blue eyes meeting mine.

"He won't hurt her."

I ripped my arm out of his grasp.

"Then what's he doing with her?"

Owen looked to where they had disappeared through the door.

"Just setting some ground rules."

I shook my head. This was ridiculous she didn't do anything wrong yet Ver was treating her like she was public enemy number one.

"I get why he has to keep her under guard but he doesn't have to manhandle her like that."

"Come on Slo don't take it personal."

I scowled at Ty.

"It is personal she's my friend."

Ty raised his hands in complacency.

"What can I say she's not one of the pack yet she's in his territory. As far as he's concerned he can do what he wants with her. Not to mention as alpha he's used to taking want he wants no questions asked."

Ty leaned an arm on my shoulder.

"Not unlike someone else I know."

I pushed him away.

"I'm nothing like that."

Ty eyebrows raised chuckling.

"Just keep telling yourself that kido, but if your ever made alpha you'll eat those words."

I scowled watching Ty go inside after Ver And Kan.

"He's right Sloane. You know your brother he's not one to use his words. He manhandles her as you say to show her he is in control. At the end of the day Ver is more animal than all of us. His actions will always speak louder than words."

It's not like I didn't understand it because I did it just annoyed me that he had to do it in a way that would hurt her.

"Stop worrying about Kandra I'll make sure she's ok. You on the other hand look like you have other things to worry about."

I followed his eye line to where Cora was standing. She had her hands on her hips her lips were pressed in a thin line. The look in her eyes told me she had seen Kan and didn't like the fact that the friend I was hiding was female.

"Guess I have more explaining to do before the day is out."

Owens laugh was the first genuine one I'd heard since we'd left for Asheville.

"Looks like it. Would be a lot easier if you'd just make it official already."

I growled at him. He knew about me and Cora but stayed out of it. He didn't understand why I held back. To be honest sometimes not even I knew that. Guess I really am just a coward when it came to Cora.
