Chapter 20 - Chapter 19

After passing out for a bit, I slowly opened my eyes. I was in a place I did not recognize nor remember, this place did not look like my room or my psychiatrist's room. I tried to sit up in the bed I was laying in, I could feel pain in my stomach as it growled in the process, I had almost forgotten that I had starved myself for a few days. I could hear talking outside of the door, it was a male voice and a female voice. One of the voices belonged to Lucas, this must be his bed.

I flinched as soon as the door had opened, I looked up to see it was indeed Lucas. I was so glad to see him, I was upset at myself for ignoring him for so long, he must've thought he did something wrong. Lucas looks in my direction to see that I was awake, he hurried over to my side with a bowl of ramen, he knew that it was one of my favorite dishes.

"Hey! Your awake, as soon as we had made it to the woods we found you collapsed by a river, with your notebook in hand. We have it but we still haven't looked through it, we thought it would be best to wait until you got up." Lucas had spoken softly to me, he knew my ears were probably extra sensitive from passing out so he talked quietly to me. He helped me get into a comfortable position so that I could eat the bowl of food that he had given to me. He asked what happened to me the entire time I was gone, I took a deep breath and then I answered him

"All I remember is running from my parents, I had hurt them badly and they looked like they were in a lot of pain, the river I was by, instead of seeing my reflection I saw a beast staring straight at me. It can be what I secretly am, after that I blacked out, I don't remember having my notebook," I spoke out to Lucas with a weak, soft tone. Lucas stands up for a moment to grab the notebook off of his desk as he walked back to me.

I gently took it from his hands as I flipped through the pages until I had gotten to the page with the Arabic language written on it, images flashed in the mind of my conversation with the animal, it had told me it was her language and what it had said. I asked Lucas for a pencil as he reached out for one and gladly handed it to me. I wrote down the meaning for this sentence, "We are one, I am the true inheritance of our true king, Okami."

Lucas looked at the English I had written below the message before speaking up,

"how do know what this language says, last time I checked you never took the chance to learn any other languages, unless... a half-animal has talked to you, half animals are known to write in this language, but the inheritance talking to you, you know that's a big deal, that would make that animal the second strongest creature on this planet."

My eyes go wide, the inheritance of the one true king, the king that saved the world centuries ago, Okami was the name given. Why was the inheritance of a king talking to a nobody like me? Lucas got off of the bed and walked to his shelf and grabbed a book with green trim on it, he showed the front to me as the front of the book said "half animals" in bold letters.

I took the book out of his hands and opened it up, I instantly saw what kinds of half animals there are today, there are pure-bloods, half-bloods, and a couple more were listed but I paid attention to the first two, I flipped the pages to the half-blood section and I saw him, Okami himself, so he was a half-blooded animal, being a half-animal with human genes inside of him. He had set his kind free until this world collapsed again, nobody has seen him since the day he gave his speech, but word is out that he had a daughter.

I was shocked, so it is true, he had a daughter during the time that humans and animals had gotten along, but it doesn't say anything about her. I flipped to the pure-blood section and there was a black silhouette of an animal, she doesn't have any information of her yet. The only information that there is that she is the inheritance of the true king.

The door to the bedroom suddenly opens as both Lucas and I jumped, we look over to see that Lucas's parents had walked into the room.

"Hey, Maya, how are you holding up, oh I see that you have been reading up on half animals, I just wanted to let you know that your parents are alright, they were angry on the phone though, I don't think they want you to be near them, so my husband and I have been thinking about it, and we were wondering if you wanted to move in with us. I'm sure Lucas wouldn't mind it." Lucas's mother had softly spoken to me, she knew about my hyperacusis so she made sure not to raise her voice or anything.

it had been a while since I had been here so she couldn't remember how sensitive my hearing was. I was silent but I had nodded to her, I didn't mind the idea of being in the same house with Lucas. Lucas's mom and dad both looked at each other before looking back at Maya.

" Maya, I know everything may be confusing right now, but you don't need to worry, we are not sure if you indeed have half-animal genes in you, but we do know that you are not human either, you've probably caught on with that though from the power you had experienced at school." Lucas's mother had spoken once more to me, I knew she was right. I mean what normal human can bite a girl's hand almost clean off with just a simple nibble.

Lucas's mother and father also had mentioned that they were there during Okami's speech, my eyes went wide, they were there when Okami was last seen, did he have a daughter at that time?

I showed both of them my notebook and what her other entity had written to her, their eyes went wide when they realized what words were shown on the page.

"Do you know who wrote this? Because whoever did, they are the daughter of Okami, she is said to be the second chance of the world being revived, that she and her father can restore our broken world." I was shocked, my other entity is someone who has the responsibility to save the world, then why did it choose me? I'm not that strong nor ready for all of that.

"My other entity did, when I was at the lake before I had passed out, I saw a half-animal as my reflection, I think it took my body as a host. I think I am the inheritance of Okami."

I had told everyone that was in the room, I backed up until I hit the bed. I was visibly shaking, I wasn't ready to handle all of that information, nor will I accept any of it.

I felt a hand on my shoulder, I lifted my head and saw Lucas smiling at me. I was surprised that he wasn't mad at me, wouldn't he want to leave me now that I have a possibility of being hunted.

"You...you aren't mad at me?"

Lucas shook his head quickly, I should've known that because when we first met, we told each other that no matter what we would be friends.

"Maya, I would never leave you, even after hearing you are a half-animal, I mean it's cool that I am friends with such a strong animal like you, err...human as well."

Lucas and I started laughing, I was so happy to have a loyal friend such as himself, I leaned into his body, he knew I loved cuddles, I loved the feeling of someone's arms around me, it made me feel loved and wanted.

Lucas scooted up a bit as he handed me a piece of paper, I looked down as my eyes went wide. It was a field trip to a history museum, I was excited, which meant that I had the chance to learn more about my "Father" well real one anyways, I guess my other parents were just step-parents after all.

"I thought you would want the chance to learn more about your past and your real father."
