Chapter 40 - Maidens

"The dress!! I need another dress!!!" a maid yelled loudly while running around in panic trying to find another maid in charge of clothing.

As that maid went on with finding more dresses since she found the dress too inferior compared to Irene's morning face after being forced to wake up. Another maid yelled, "Makeup! Where is the powder— Milady, don't take off the mask!!"

Hearing her words, Irene immediately placed the mask back on her face. As far as she knows this kind of behaviour is much worse than every morning when getting ready.

Though expecting the loud yells and rumbling to ease for a tiny bit, another maid yelled "The perfume.. WE ARE OUT OF PERFUME!!!"

Irene felt overwhelmed even while trying not to doze off since she wanted five minutes more of sleep.

....

Henry places a stern expression on his face after getting informed of Jonas' return. He fixed his hair which he regretted after the stylist approach him to slap his hand and returned Henry's hair back to the chosen style.

"Don't you know that I can seperate your head from your neck with that unruly action you did?" he had a distorted face of annoyance and anger, but how can he not be grumpy?

Because similar to Irene, his sleep also got disturbed and from the moment he woke up.. his face became similar to a grumpy cat.

" I know that Your Highness would never do that even if I repeat it," the woman smiled confidently with no fear of death.

"Hoh?" Henry raised his brows and crossed his arms, "Where'd you get that confidence from?"

"I am your future cousin-in-law and Monique Aveline's beloved one. You wouldn't try to hurt her feelings as someone betrothed to her, am I right?" she said as she arranges her make-up tools in a red box.

Henry clicked his tongue before snapping his fingers and pulled his ceremonial dress, "Let's go."

Everyone bowed their heads as Henry proceeds to the door and his servants followed him afterwards meanwhile the people who buffed his looks, arranged their stuff.

But as Henry is exactly below the door frame, a butler in black tuxedo-like uniform, bows his head and carefully leans on him. It took about two minutes before Henry did a gesture: mouth guard.

Then not even a second, he lowered his head and looked like he was trembling from the cold or rather he was trembling because he tries to control his laughter after hearing that Irene ran away from his maids.

"Yo-Your Highness, are you alright?" the same butler asked but he gulped his saliva as Henry raised his hand vertically as if signaling to the butler not to worry about such trivial matter.

Henry coughed and asked, "I hope all of Lady Crimson's servants will find her before the first prince returns with his grand entourage."

Thr butler bowed immediately, "Understood, Your Highness!"

...

Irene undid her bun and her braided hair fell before her waist. She took all the ornaments in her hair especially the precious coronet and of course, she threw it away like how she threw the golden pin that allowed her hair to stay up in a bun.

If ordinary people were to see how she didn't care about the value of those 'insignificant' and 'annoying' head ornaments, they would probably be speechless and stare at Irene as she threw those invaluable accessories to the ground.

Oh I wonder how expensive a hairpin made of pure gold and farmed white pearls and the coronet with its genuine side and center gemstones. Probably a few million in modern currency.

It probably feels carefree to be wealthy—nay! Ahem, continuing with this tale.

'All this and that.. maybe I shouldn't trust anyone except that crazy red-hair.' She held her chin with her hand, "I've decided! I will only trust that crazy red-hair."

"Who's the crazy red-hair?" a familiar voice made Irene flinch. She looked side to side and landed her gaze towards a Henry leaning on the wall.

Her body became stiff and few drops of swear formed on her forehead. "Yes, who is the crazy red-hair?" she lied naturally as she breathed.

Henry had a menacing smile on his face amidst his arms crossed and leaning on the wall, "Maybe me or you who escaped from her poor maidens."

"Did you just make a— never mind. Your Highness, it is not polite to not include yourself when you've also allowed your subordinates to lose sight of you."

He raised his brows and laughed. Then his thumb pointed behind him, "I have both my men and your maidens."

'No, I shouldn't trust anyone even the red-hair!' she thought to herself as she got gently dragged by her maids back to her room for a retouch.
