The field was a good five minute walk from Luke's house, Cole didn't mind walking though, too excited to see the blossoms.
"Holy crap— this is so beautiful!" Cole exclaimed, in awe as he looked at a blushy, grinning Luke, the younger boy proud, a tad shy.
"Always had people say I got green hands," Luke's bunny teeth peeked out, rubbing his hands as he looked at the plants, "I come here everyday after uni to water them along with the workers. the workers here— they're barely thirteen to fifteen year old kids. They're kind of like my brothers. it's so sad seeing them work here."
"Are they getting educated?" Cole questioned as Luke nodded, "Yes, they are but it's hard, you know. I started working here when I was fifteen, at first it didn't seem hard— working and studying but as time passed by, it got harder, the privileged wanted us to work but they also didn't want to have illiterate workers, it was just a lot of pressure, especially for someone like me."
"I understand, Luke but what did you mean by someone like you?" Cole was curious, his voice was so soft that Luke felt comfortable, not as if he was being interrogated yet he just couldn't help the anxiety raising in his throat, "U-Um, I just meant that it was hard for me as I'm uh I'm a little weak. Yeah. Yeah."
Cole knew Luke wasn't entirely telling the truth but he let it slide as he didn't want to make the man uncomfortable.
"Hyung!" A little boy exclaimed, barely looked five as he ran up to Luke, jumping on him, excited as his hyung lifted him up, grinning.
"Who's this, hyung?" The boy asked, curious as he pointed at a smiling Cole, the man fond as he watched the two.
"I'm Cole, Cole Ah. what's your name, young man?" Cole grinned as he caressed the little boy's chin gently, affectionate.
"My name is Lee chinhae!" the boy exclaimed before he turned to Luke and pouted, "Hyung, why didn't you bring Noah?"
"Ah, Noah was out today, chin-ah, he said he'd come visit the next week though!" Luke smiled, threading his fingers through the boy's brown hair softly, "Did Chinhwa and the boys water the plants yet? It's time already."
"Ah, hyung, we wanted to but we were waiting for you to arrive!" Chinhae said, getting down before he turned to Cole, "Lift me up, Cole hyung!"
"Are you Luke hyung's friend?" Cole nodded as he lifted chinhae up, Luke looking at Cole with a smile, "Little Chinhae here comes with his brother Chinhwa to watch him work. He's such a little cutie, isn't he?"
"Do you wanna go meet the other boys, Cole?" Luke questioned before Cole nodded, Luke making a whining Chinhae get down before they bolted, "Catch us Cole!"
Cole ran behind them through the fields, the largest smile on his face as he heard their giggles, the boys just running around the fields, happy.
Cole ran behind Luke, determined to catch the boy and he did, eventually, Luke squealing as Cole giggled, "catch me now, Luke!"
-
Cole met the others while Luke, him and Chinhae were playing around, the boys joining in with them, just chasing each other in the shy sun, the beautiful rapeseeds rubbing against each other, shy.
"Let's go water the plants now, boys, wouldn't want master angry now, do we?" Luke and the boys stood up, tired after their little game there, the man offering a hand to Cole who took it gratefully.
The boys picked up a tube each, all of them connected to water, before Chinhwa opened it, glistening water falling on the singing plants and it hit Cole when he least expected it—
Water.
"You are so dead, Luke!" Cole screamed but the smile on his face remained as he picked u a tube for himself before chasing a laughing Luke, both men watering the plants and themselves.
Cole suddenly tripped, falling on Luke with a thud, making Luke fall back too, both men looking into each other's eyes for a long second before they broke out in giggles, "Caught you!"
-
"So, tell me about your childhood," Luke muttered softly as he turned to Cole, both men laying down on the field, looking at the fading sun.
"Knew my parents but never actually knew them, just like everybody else. Grew up in an all privileged training center, went home sometimes. Invested here and there, took care of business with the money they gave me. then just decided to go to uni. Met Noah hyung, met you. Here I am now, laying here with you between thousands of rapeseed flowers, looking at the sun going down, explaining my life while you have that sweet smile on your face. What else do you wanna know, Luke?"
Luke blushed, light roses blooming on his cheeks, sighing as he laid down on his back again, looking up at the sky, "Never even imagined in my wildest dreams that I'd even meet a privileged like you. You're too nice to be one of them, Cole."
"I know, Luke, I know that I'm too good to be one of them and that's why I'm here, laying near you and not with Edward partying of something," Cole snorted and that made Luke giggle, a hand coming in to cover his mouth as his shoulder shook lightly, eyes crinkling.
"Luke?" Cole questioned, hesitant, eyes shy as Luke hummed, "Yes, Cole?" the younger one replied, the men meeting eyes before Cole spoke again, "Can I get a hug, please?"
Luke smiled big at both Cole's pout and request, hugging the elder, trapping him in his strong arms, Cole sighing at the warmth, both their hearts racing but they just let it be, enjoying the friendly gesture, "I've had hugs in the past month more than I've had them in my whole life. Feels nice, I realized, made me feel secure and just warn. Wanna familiarize with them."
"You can knock on my door anytime you need a hug, Cole," Luke stretched out smile made Cole smile, tightening the hug.
That night, Cole slept with the widest grin on his face.
