Qi Xing watched the embers continue to blaze brightly within the molten crater, the product of his furious strike. There was hardly any recognizable human remains left. Blood had evaporated instantly from the sheer heat, and flesh torn asunder into miniscule shreds. Even the bones had been shattered into countless shards and blackened from the extreme temperature.
Never mind an intact body, there weren't even ashes left of Luo Chen and his retainers.
"You did the right thing," Shen Jian informed him, placing a hand on the older man's shoulder. Qi Xing said nothing for a few moments, and then he raised his head.
"That's not it." He sighed. "I just regret not being able to save my student."
"I understand how you feel." Shen Jian exhaled tiredly. "This whole tragedy…I wondered if there was a way to prevent it. It's not that I feel sorry for them, but perhaps things might have been different if we had freed them from the chains of servitude."
