Chereads / The Magic Mercenary / Chapter 20 - Family (2)

Chapter 20 - Family (2)

Nathan knew that she was correct. If he did not have the memories of his previous life or his Esper abilities, even coming out of that encounter with the Hex Tiger would have been impossible.

He did not even make it out in one piece with his memories. He could only imagine all the different enemies and abilities they had in this new world.

And without the technology he was used to, he actually had a bit of a handicap.

In his memories, he would use pistols or various firearms that would most likely be impossible to find. And since he was no techie, he would be unable to recreate them.

'At least we had to go through knife and CQC training. I can at least use those to take out most normal opponents or mystics as long as they were not too different.

But magic-users are entire other creatures that I have never battled before.'

Natalie drank her water and waited patiently. She noticed that Nathan would sometimes lose his focus and slip into his thoughts when he came across a situation he was curious about or confused by.

After seeing that Nathan had all of his thoughts organized, she continued speaking.

"As for your first question about my family and the Order, that is a difficult question to answer.

While I would be very happy for you to be the next clan leader or become a member of the Order, I do not have any expectations for you to do it.

But I think that the Order is actually a good place for you or the Adventurer's Guild. There is also the Mercenary Corps. It would be excellent for meeting other people with similar thought processes to you.

Both are great for those who want to live their own lives without having to be directly under the thumb of others.

One is more about hunting monsters dressed as beasts while the other hunts down monsters dressed as sapient beings."

She paused trying to compose her thoughts. Natalie never felt like she needed to treat Nathan like a child.

He had always presented himself as more than a normal child. Even though it unnerved her at first, she got used to her son's behavior.

"But the issue with both of them is that one must still follow another's orders. In the Adventurer's Guild, Mercenary Corps, or the Order, a person must take on missions that are posted or requested of them.

Even though it is their choice, both still must follow a set of rules."

Nathan knew that. He did not want to admit it but he knew that. No matter what his position was, as long as he was not at the top, he could never truly do as he liked without consequences.

But to Nathan, consequences be damned.

His personality was simple. If he felt curious about something, he would research it.

If he did not like something, he would avoid it or get rid of it.

Seeing a determined look in her son's emotionless eyes, Natalie was sure that her son had come to some sort of conclusion on his own.

She would not pry about it or try to change it even if he told her. This was the son that she was proud of and she would respect any decision he made.

"Alright, good. Now that we have this under control, let's deal with sealing your ki core until you turn 5. That is when we will begin your training."

Not giving him a chance to respond, Natalie closed her eyes and focused on controlling the mana inside of her and turning it into a spell.

Soon, a magic circle appeared above Nathan's chest before it pressed down onto it and disappeared under his skin.

Nathan felt a burning sensation in his chest for a short amount of time but after 20 or so seconds, it disappeared.

With Nathan's magic core sealed and having explained everything she needed to, Natalie sent Nathan to his room to rest while she started preparing dinner and took down her barriers.

-------

While Nathan had been receiving all the information from his mother, major changes were occurring not just in the Carran Forest but all over the country of Zallu.

Several famous spots in the country had been having changes occur in their depths. From predators hunting areas shrinking or enlarging to full-on beast tides leaving their area and attacking nearby villages, towns, and cities.

The king of the nation had called the army and soldiers to arms in order to do a countrywide subjugation of magical creatures and beasts. Phil and other off-duty soldiers were called out for active service and had to leave their families for a few months.

They had even requested assistance from the Mercenary Corps and the Adventurer's Guild. Each group posted requests in their branches around the country and contributed over 10,000 mystics, magi, and adventurers.

After dividing their forces into 7 different armies that were each lead by a branch of the imperial guard and imperial mages, each one of the armies went to a separate location to deal with the disturbances.
