The sunlight beat down onto the street of the city, The sidewalk bustled with life as people journeyed back and forth along the concrete path. Nestled under towering skyscrapers and technological wonders were small buildings of varying sizes that seemed to expand away from the towers, like a rabbit shrinking away from a tiger. One of these buildings housed a small coffee shop with a rusty sign and worn down paint. The sign read 'Ol' Joe's Trusty Ol Joe!'
The owner was a burly dark skinned man with a charismatic smile. He manned the counter along with a tired looking blonde teen who slouched over the counter with his arms covering his head. Contrary to the dilapidated appearance of the building's exterior, the interior was well lit in soft lighting and lined with maple oak floor and ceiling. The walls were a mix of wood blended with some variant of acrylic polymer which blended into the wall to masterfully craft a painting into the wall. The table and chairs were crafted from rosewood and held a simple yet elegant vibe which tied together to aesthetics of the café.
In the corner facing a window sat a bespectacled man with a mop of brown hair. He gazed out onto the street and watched as predestinations swaggered along the street with a blank expression.
Then, with a light chime, the café door swung open and a slightly tanned blonde man walked in. He stopped a few steps in and took the time to observe his surroundings. Then, he walked up to the counter and stood in front of the slouched teen.
"Could I take a coffee and a toasted cheese sandwich?"
Without looking up, the teen raised his hand and started tapping away on a nearby register.
"Anything else?"
"No"
"Eat here or take away?"
"Eat here"
"Name?"
"Kit"
The teen raised his head and gazed at the man Infront of him. The man in front of him was handsome and stared directly at the teen. The teen felt a vibe of confidence radiating from the man.
"That'll be 13 units."
The man swiped a thin bronze card then sat down at a nearby table. His mind drifted as he ruminated on the events of the day.
The man, Chris, had stepped a portal which spat him out at an immigration Centre. Infront of him sat a woman with short cut brown hair and pure black eyes. He stared at her for a second until while she sat at a desk across from him and typed away on a computer. After a couple seconds she looked up and gestured for him to sit.
"Hello Mr Blutzki, my name is Montanna from the Special Circumstances Immigration Office or SCIO. Here we deal with the immigration and integration of citizen with rather unique circumstances. We apologise for keeping you in the white room for so long but it was necessary in order for us to ensure you weren't carrying and form of harmful bacteria, virus, curse of metaphysical anomaly from your dimension."
Chris shook his head.
"I understand, there was an outfit like your on my planet which I used to part-time."
Montanna's face lit up.
"Really! what was it like? Was the name the same? or did it have different ways of operating to us?"
"Ahem"
Kit cleared his throat.
"Oh right! sorry."
Montanna settled down before pulling out a sheet of paper and pen.
"Question 1; Have you been given permission by The Keepers, New World Order, Government of the Globe or any other organization with national immigration authority?"
"yes"
"Do you agree to follow the laws of the planet and accept the ramifications imposed by the violation of said laws?"
"yes"
Do you agree not to commence in world domination of any form during your immigration?"
"yes"
Last question; Are you bringing with you any threats from 3rd party sources to the planet in which you are immigrating to.
"uhh...unsure"
"mmm... I see"
Montanna finished with the paper before looking up and donning her customer service smile.
"Thank you for your cooperation, please proceed to the next room in order to claim your immigration survival kit!"
Chris went to stand up before pausing.
"Excuse me Montanna, would it be possible to change my first name?"
Montanna nodded.
"Of course, we offer a wide variety of services, including the ability to alter, remove or instate names."
"Great, could I please change mine then?"
"Of course sir, what to?"
Chris smiled.
"Kit"
After finishing with the name change, Chris proceeded into the next room and grabbed a duffle bag with his name on it.
The bag held things like his ID, credit card, Driver's Liscence, Etc. It also held books about common sense, adapting to earth as well as a book full of contacts for if he had any trouble. Lastly, there was a set of keys to his new apartment and a scrap of paper with an address to his flat.
Chris looked through his bag then grumbled.
'Damn, in my agency, we had the decency to give you a phone.'
After collecting all his items, he walked into the next room, only to be met with the open air and near blinding sunlight. Looking behind him, the door was gone and he was face to face with a brick wall. The streets were wide cars of various shapes and sizes zipping along the road. Chris closed his eyes with a grin plastered on his face. The breeze whipped up his hair and nearly brought tears to his eyes.
'I may not have wanted this new life, but now that I'm here, I might as well use it. heh, I spent my last days fighting for life, no matter what. now that I have it, it feels hollow.... Ah fuck, less thinking, more Coffee!'
"now..."
...
"..."
"Where the fuck am I?"
