Police sirens could be heard from all around. Leilani Iona, the owner of the now closed down ice cream shop 'Lei's treat', had come to the shop to pick up some remaining equipment still left there when she found the body of Katarina Elon lying on the floor.
"The sight was absolutely terrifying," Leilani tearfully said. "I almost threw up just looking at it!"
Katarina's tongue and voice box had been completely gouged out. The weapon was a melon core cutter that had been left there, bloody. It was such an weird murder that it even made headlines! When Lahela heard about her friend's death, she was devastated. She wanted to find the murderer and make whoever it was pay.
That's where Momeo and I, Suliet, come into play. We are detectives who were hired by Lahela to find out who killed Katarina Elon. Although our wedding was set to be the week after, the two of us still accepted the case. We would go check the crime scene for any viable evidence.
The two of us got there the next morning. The sunlight shone through the windows into the building. It looked run down, even though it hadn't been very long since the shop closed for good. The walls and floor had small cracks in them. The police had taken Katarina's body away, but according to the autopsy report, her head had been bashed in, her tongue was gone, and her voice box was gone. There were no signs of her being drugged or anything like that.
"We can assume she was knocked unconscious before the culprit took away her tongue and voice box, otherwise there would have been signs of struggle." I said, looking at the place where the body had been. The police had traced the outline of it with chalk.
Momeo nodded in agreement. "Why would the criminal take those specific parts out though," he asked, "what could be the motive for that?"
"That's what I want to know." I replied, turning to face the murder weapon which had been bagged. "A melon core cutter was the weapon, huh?" I chuckled. "Seems fitting."
"Should you really be laughing in a situation like this?" Momeo asked, raising an eyebrow at me questioningly.
"Probably not, but- ACHOO!" I sneezed loudly. "There's so much cat hair around he- ACHOO!"
"Lahela said Katarina had brought her pet cat with her, but we haven't been able to find it." Momeo said, leading me away from all the cat hair. "She also said that Katarina's cat likes to wander around which could explain why she was in here in the first place."
"Ugh," I sniffed. "What a horrible cat."
"I'm afraid there's nothing much we can do about that, dear." Momeo replied. "Actually, we could probably use your cat allergy to find that ca-"
"NO." I cut him off. "Don't even think about it." I scowled.
"I'm kidding, I'm kidding." He said, laughing.
"Hmph." I sighed. "Weren't you the one who said that laughing right now wouldn't be proper?"
Momeo looked away, embarrassed. "Ah, I guess I did."
I stuck my tongue out at him in ridicule. Momeo continued to look around and saw a piece of paper on the ground. He picked it up.
"Hmm..what is this?" He gestured to me to come look at the paper with him. The paper read "May 8th, 20XX", yesterday's date and the date of the murder.
"You think the murderer dropped this?" I asked.
"Maybe, but it could've also been Katarina's or Leilani's." Momeo replied. We took the paper as evidence and decided to leave the crime scene.
