Walking out the guild hall, Jake squinted in thought.
No matter how Jake looked at it, the taunt quest was better than the collection quests. Maybe it's because of the weird quest failure punishments...
Either way, just by completing a single taunt quest, Jake's Click Points went from 1 to 68. This was clearly faster than absorbing mana cores one by one.
In his current situation, 67 Click Points was a large reward already. After all, only 100 Click Points was needed to upgrade a skill!
'And I thought getting Click Points was going to be a tough battle.' Jake lightly shook his head and chuckled at himself.
'If I can see... What's his name again? If that golden jacket brat triggers a taunt quest for me every day, collecting 1,000 click points doesn't seem that hard.'
With 1,000 Click Points, Jake could unlock the speed buff under Abilities - Body.
'Huh... How magical.'
Even until now, Jake still could not understand the underlying logic of the system.
After all, 67 Click Points was basically 67 mana cores! These would cost well over $67,000!
'The kid's anger is worth this much?' Jake felt that this was a little unreal.
A moment later, Jake nodded at himself, accepting the situation. 'Alright, I'll take it though. It's in my favor after all.'
How much effort would Jake go through to get 67 green-tier mana cores? Even as an artisan, Jake couldn't endlessly buy mana cores.
The odds for monsters to drop a mana core wasn't that high. As a result, there's a limited supply.
'The taunt quest is highly cost-effective. But how do I trigger it?' Jake felt like he had found a loophole in the system.
'It's a melee hero system. So the system wants me to act like a melee hero?'
'In other words, the less I act like a warrior, the more likely a quest will be triggered.'
'By the looks of it, the system couldn't read my thoughts. If it knew my plan, the taunt quest probably wouldn't have spawned.'
'So how does it know when to give me a quest? It sees what I see? Or... most likely, it can detect emotions like anger? Weird...'
The more Jake thought about the system, the more curious Jake felt. 'So how does the system work?'
If the system was an electric appliance, Jake would have opened it up to take a look inside already.
...
Jake escaped the fate of becoming the brat's errand boy. But in the end, Jake still became his childhood friend's errand boy.
In a small and messy administration office room, Samantha Hudson took a big bite into a burger Jake had brought to her.
Sitting across the desk, Jake sipped on his coffee.
So this was Samantha's lunch-dinner, lunner?
Nom-nom-nom... The girl didn't act in lady-like manners at all.
Looking at the girl's furious eating style, for some reason, Jake felt a little hungry too now.
"Say... an irregular eating habit could cause health problems you know." Jake gave his childhood friend a heads-up.
The son of the guildmaster had nothing to do. The daughter of the vice-guildmaster was overburdened with work.
No matter how Jake looked at it, he didn't feel like it's worth it for Samantha.
Taking a drink at her pop, Samantha rolled her eyes. "Tsch. Yeah. Those experts also say that drinking coffee in the afternoon is bad for you."
"You might not believe it, but I think I'm immune to caffeine now..." Jake took a glance at his coffee. This was a downside of having his body strengthened.
"Uh huh. Yep." Samantha chewed on her burger.
"This must be a disaster to you right?" The girl responded with a muffled voice.
Jake sighed... That's an understatement.
"Anyways, I heard what had happened in the auditorium..." Samantha's expression became serious.
"You are concerned about that guy? Will he be a trouble to you?" Jake's expression became serious as well.
If it's too much trouble for Samantha... Jake didn't mind kicking the guildmaster and his son out of this guild. Even if that brat could generate quests for Jake.
There's always replacements for Taunt Quest NPCs. There's always more quests to be discovered.
"No. Not for me. For you. After all, I can't stick around with you all the time." Samantha looked a little fragile and powerless. "And in this industry, things are not as civil and peaceful..."
In other words, in the world of... yep.
Erhm. In other words, justice sides with whoever had the bigger stick.
In the realms, things were even more lawless and barbaric.
"You sure the kid can't do anything to trouble you? Clearly, we have some beef going on. And everyone knows that I'm your childhood friend..." Jake asked to confirm.
Samantha rolled her eyes again. "Don't worry. The guildmaster doesn't ever touch guild matters. He just has the shares and the title. And Ben is just a brat. We are the ones actually running this guild."
"Uh huh..." Jake slowly nodded.
He couldn't understand why the guildmaster and the brat hadn't been kicked out yet. After all, Samantha and uncle Chad could just form their own guilds.
By the looks of it, the majority of the explorers here would follow them over.
However, Jake didn't want to get into complicated personal matters. Uncle Chad and Samantha seemed to be happy so far.
"In this case, you don't need to worry about me at all." Jake leaned back against his chair.
Finishing his coffee, Jake throw the empty cup into the garbage can here.
"I'm just here for 1 week anyways. Just here for the license." Jake stood up.
Samantha seemed busy. Jake didn't want to take up too much of her time.
"I'll keep an eye on the matter then. Wait. Where are you living right now?"
Jake pointed out the office window. "Oh. Up there."
Looking in the direction of Jake's pointing finger, Samantha rolled her eyes. "Uh huh... Sure."
Jake was pointing at a penthouse at the center of the district. Samantha knew that those three condos belonged to the iron-tier guilds. Those three penthouses were owned by iron-tier guildmasters.
You can't even rent those places with money. Those places were always reserved for important guests. People with great stature. People who the iron-tier guildmasters needed to take seriously.
How could an average high school graduate like Jake live there?
Naturally, Samantha didn't believe Jake's claim. Staring at her childhood friend, Samantha felt that Jake had changed a lot.
From a hot-blooded idiot to a considerate mature friend.
Yep. To Samantha, Jake was being considerate, keeping troubles and hardship to himself.
"My dad's place is still open you know."
"Yep. Sure. Sure." Jake walked out the room without any explanation. It's not like words can help. "You can drop by my place when you are free."
"Oh, when uncle Chad is back, remember to give me a heads-up." Walking out the room, without looking back, Jake left a wave.
