At Kew Gardens Resort, two women were silently facing each other.
Lin Yan collected the piece of old paper, that Jo gave her and opened it carefully. As soon as her eyes read "Dear Jinchen...", she froze in her chair. Her blood drained completely from her face and she felt how her head started spinning.
Jo remained silent. By now her chinese had improved a lot and she knew how to read too. When she had read the letter yesterday, she got shocked as well. Although she couldn't determine which child of Lin Yan, belonged to that man she had her suspicions. Jo noticed her mother's in law, change in colour and poured her a glass of water.
"Who knows about this?" Asked Lin Yan.
"No one!" Replied Jo looking at her expressionless.
For Lin Yan it was hard to believe that actually no one knew about it. How did this letter ended in her hands then?!
"Have you told my son about it?"
Jo looked at the woman intently, she was studying all her expressions, trying to guess who was the illegitimate child, but she had no luck. Lin Yan was unreadable.
"No!" Replied Jo, "I suggest you burn this letter, right here and now. Some secrets are better to remain untold!" Continued Jo.
Lin Yan hovered the piece of paper, with her trembling hands, above the lit candle on the table. The fire engulfed the letter instantly, burning its contents to ashes.
Opposite the building a thin man with short hair, was drinking a cup of tea at the table by the window. His cup was almost empty, he lifted the cup to his thin lips and drank the last sip. He was wearing a black plain suit and was carrying an umbrella. The man placed the tea cup back in its plate and glanced one last time at the women, who were having a conversation in the adjacent building. Then, he stood up and left.
Jo was watching her mother in law burn the letter, when she noticed from her peripheral vision, a man looking at her. She remained still and didn't look back at him, she didn't want to alert him that she had discovered his presence.
When their meeting ended, Jo got back in the car. Butler Gu, closed the back door and got into the driver's seat.
"Where to, Madam!" He asked.
"Home" Jo replied.
Back at the estate, Jo changed her clothes and went into the kitchen. She didn't knew much about the chinese cuisine, but there was one dish she wanted to try herself. The night before, she googled for a sweet and sour pork ribs recipe and other dishes that go with it. The results were plenty, so she chose the one that looked the best in the pictures.
Jo had ordered her ingredients early in the morning, and by the time she got back, they were all washed and prepared on the kitchen counter, for her to use. She was a wifey now and preparing dinner for her husband was a must.
"Madam Lu, Do you need any assistance?" Asked the chef of the estate.
"Uhmm, not really... maybe some guidance, in case I'm making a mistake!" Replied Jo. She wanted to be honest and not cheat in cooking.
"Sure! Will do!" Replied the chef, signalling with his hand at the same time, to the aid to bring in the utensils.
Just as she was ready to start her work, the kitchen door opened with a loud bang.
"What are you doing?" Asked the man with a frown on his face.
Jo was stunned, she instantly got intimidated, so she dropped her utensils on the kitchen floor and stopped whatever she was doing.
"I... I wanted to prepare dinner for you!" Said the girl in a weak voice and with a pair of sparkling innocent eyes.
The man realised he had startled her, so he eased his tone and replied while rolling his sleeves.
"Oh! Okay, I will help you then!" He approached the girl and left a soft kiss on her forehead.
"Everyone else is dismissed!" He continued expressionless, while sinking in the girls deep black eyes.
