The next morning was still a weekend, so Dix was free to do whatever he wanted. He already had his break and had some fun with the gang, so he decided to continue training. The one item with the highest priority on his list was his new sharingan.
The Mangekyo Sharigan is an extremely useful, almost broken thing to have as a ninja. It brings many great possibilities and abilities. For example the famous Amaterasu, the Black Flames, which burns the target until it completely turns into ashes, without any way to extinguish them, except for the user's will. Or the Tsukuyomi, which is said to be the strongest genjutsu. Sooner or later he might be able to unlock Susanoo too, which is the huge physical manifestation of one's chakra. It's possible because the Mangekyo Sharingan gives the user power and an instinctive mold to form the shape.
Apart from these there are drawbacks too. These are incredible powers to have, but if one were to overuse them, their eyes' power would start dwindling and their eyesight would soon fade. There is a way to go around this, specifically to implant a close relative's own Mangekyo Sharingans. He doesn't have anything like that though. But he had some thoughts and ideas regarding the matter. For now its enough to know that he can't use those abilities too much.
Dix was excited to check out his new powers. In reality whatever powers he got might be entirely different from anything ever seen, as even in the anime, no two ninjas were seen using the same abilities, except for Susanoo.
Dix was already standing in his camp in the woods. He gave Yami some petting, changed the clone that was caring for her, then let them alone to make some distance between himself and the camp. Just to make sure nothing is destroyed.
After some walking, a neat little clearing with a single tree in the middle of it was found. He closed his eyes and reached into the depths of his new sharingans to grab their power. These abilities are also great because nobody has to teach Dix to use them, they were instinctively available for anyone that can evolve their sharingan. He was able to feel the two different ability that was residing in his eyes. One of them was quite familiar, while the other one was completely new. He wasn't able to feel exactly what they do, but he had a rough idea.
First he summoned the power of the familiar ability. He looked at the tree in the middle of the clearing and marked it as a target. The tree caught fire right away. Dix knew it will be something like the Amaterasu, but he was shocked to see he was only partially right. Even though the tree seemed to start burning, instead of the usual black flames, those were whitish-blueish flames. And instead of burning to ashes... the tree started freezing.
"Holy cow, is that what I think it is?! Is that... endothermic fire?! WOW!"
Dix was quite excited. He lacked a quick and long-ranged attack for a while now, and was happy to see this gap in his repertoire fill. He wanted to check on the fire, which quickly spread wherever there was life to freeze. He had to consciously contain it so it doesn't freeze the whole clearing. It seemed like the fire was actually collecting all the heat in its vicinity and was glowing stronger and stronger.
Dix moved closer and tried to see if he feels the cold, but he found out that he could even jump directly into the fire, he wouldn't be affected whatsoever. He let the fire go for a while, to see if the growing glowing goes anywhere. It was worth the wait. After a minute or so the contained fire froze everything around it, and when it reached its peak it suddenly became unstable. Dix had a bad premonition, so he jumped back as fast he was able to.
As soon as Dix landed the fire blew up with all the energy it previously sucked away. The explosion was so great that even the wind burst hurt Dix a bit, and the loud bang echoed in the woods for seconds more. The whole forest felt the shock caused by the explosion. Many birds frantically took off from their resting spots throughout the forest, animals were trying to run the opposite direction and some people that were the closest to the explosion got scared by the unknown sound.
Dix shakily stood up and looked at the destruction. The tree was no more. Previously it froze completely, but when the fire exploded the tree was destroyed without anything left behind. With the exception of the icy shrapnels that were once part of the tree and were spread throughout the clearing by the explosion. Dix was lucky he didn't get hit by anything, because this had the potential to kill him. It was incredible. Not that he could die, but the prowess of this ability.
With the tree destroyed he looked for another one to test his second sharingan ability. He was a bit more careful this time, seeing the incredible destruction the previous one did, also because he had no idea what the second one could be.
Dix found a good tree for the test, it was isolated and with not much grass around it. This would probably help him contain the destruction. He focused once again to get a hold of his new power, then released it at the tree. Suddenly a thin golden lightning shot out of his right eye straight at the tree. Dix was quite surprised, but was ready for anything, so he just watched to see what happens.
Another surprise came, when the lightning hit the tree and instead of blowing up or breaking apart like he expected, the tree shrunk a bit and started moving towards him. He suddenly got another bad premonition, so he tried to jump away. The tree kept coming towards him, and any attempts to dodge it was worthless, like the tree was a homing rocket aimed at him.
If he had his normal eyes he would've thought that the object wasn't actually moving, because the tree seemed to retain its size from his point of view. But in reality, with his Mangekyo Sharingans he was able to discern that the tree was moving towards him, while constantly shrinking at the same time. It was about to reach him when he put his hands in front of his face to protect the valuable eyes.
Then another surprise happened. He couldn't catch the tree, as it shrank down so much it escaped his clutches. The tree rapidly approached his right eye then disappeared. By that time Dix was actually panting and his face was white, also his expression was distorted by all the kinds of confusion. He wanted to know what happened, and already had a few ideas. He rushed to check his right eye, and was able to feel the faint 'presence' of something. He tried to access it, at which the eye spit out the tree in its full size.
"Remarkable..." was the only thing he was able to say.
His second ability was able to suppress and seal things into his right eye. It was quite similar to Kushina's Adamantite Sealing Chains. But it seemed to be faster? Dix had no idea, but it was a great thing to have.
He also realized something that evaded his notice before. His eyes hurt. It wasn't really bad, but it was quite uncomfortable. He tried to touch around them, when he felt a small blood-trail beneath his eyes. He forgot about these, but he always knew this will happen, so there wasn't any panic in him. He just pulled away some of the air's humidity with his water elemental control to wash his face.
These symptoms were the sign that he was using an incomplete Mangekyo Sharingan. His eyes hurt and will start losing their sight if he overuses these abilities. He had to do something about that.
But before that, he wanted to name the new abilities, as he had a few nice ideas. For the endothermic fire, with a bit of laughing, he decided to be 'Antimaterasu', while the golden sealing ability will be called 'Lightning Sealing Chains'. He had a good giggle about his ideas, then turned back to the more pressing matter.
Dix walked back to the camp and summoned a few clones. One of them asked him with a worried face.
"Are you sure this will work? Is this really the best course of action?"
"Why, do you have a better idea? Because I don't, so neither do you... There is no point in doubting ourselves for now. The risk is real, the same way as the drawbacks of the Mangekyo. We can't just sit on our exploits, 'coz it will rot away under our asses. Let's just try it. I'm pretty sure if something goes wrong we can at least reverse the process." All the clones knew this already, but the original's confidence seemed to lift their morals.
Dix walked to the operating table, which he had ready ever since the first time his sharingans were implanted, and lied down on it. The clones brought out one of the sealed units containing the second three-tomoed sharingan.
For the Mangekyo Sharingan's drawback to be nullified one had to make an Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan (from now on is referred to as 'EMS'). This is only possible by taking the eyes of one's close relatives and implanting those in place of their own. Both have to be Mangekyo Sharingans, which is quite problematic for Dix. There is no way to get a relative's own Mangekyo, as he himself isn't an Uchiha. This is where 'The Plan' comes into the picture.
The idea was that if Dix were to implant the simple eyes in the place of his Mangekyo, he would lose his previous powers, but the Mangekyo remains and will be preserved until he can evolve the second set too. When he evolved his first sharingan, it was infused with his chakra and was changed in the process, and he hoped the second works the same way. This would make him have two evolved sharingans, that are both connected to him, but are from different people. Dix had no idea if this works, but theoretically this should do the trick.
The surgery went fine, the clones left the chakra signature of the previous eye in the chakra-transforming construct. This was the way he thought would work best. Also the clones added three more of these seals to hasten the evolution and make sure there is enough energy for the EMS to work... if it works at all.
