Wait what.
Salazar stared skeptically at the screen before him , the words 'become the Monster king 'glowing brightly as though mocking him. Just looking at the title , one could tell that such a position was a high leveled one. And by high leveled , he meant that it was impossible for him to attain it. Especially as a Mudman.
" What's the meaning of this " he asked the system. Voice of the world immediately responded , " The Monster king was the absolute ruler of all monsters , who died during the Great War at the peak of what is known as the dark ages. He was so powerful that even though defeated , his spirit was unable to be killed...."
" I didn't ask for a history lesson " he roared , silencing the AI. He panted heavily. Just hearing what that creatures post was had already scared him. He stared at the life long quest that floated before him and felt like weeping.
Become the ruler of all monsters. Yeah right , like that was ever going to happen. "Yo , Voice of the world, I can reject this right ?" He asked.
"Answer :It is impossible for the host to reject or refuse the life long quest. Failure to accept would lead to immediate termination. "
He gulped. He didn't need a dictionary to know what that meant. He felt like he'd been tricked. How on earth was a Mudman supposed to lead all the Monster races.
Although he was a scientist, he knew something about creatures like elves , dwarves and dragons , and he , as a Mudman , was supposed to bring such terrifying creatures under his dominion. It was impossible.
Sweating profusely , he tried to think of a way out of this predicament. The first thought that came to mind was that maybe he could hack the system , but that hit a hard stone wall when he remembered that he was in an era were no tech existed.
Then he thought that maybe he could trick the system , but was shot down immediately.
In despair , he complained. "And how the hell Am I supposed to accomplish his goal. It's impossible for a Mudman to become the king of monsters. Even if , by some stroke of pure luck , I actually become strong , no monster would deign to follow me, if not for anything other than my race. "
His voice contained his frustrations and slight traces of anger. Voice of the worlds calm, collected voice simply spoke. " The spirit of the Monster king has granted you a skill to help you face future difficulties . "
Hearing his AI system, Salazar paused and a mixture of relief and excitement flooded his system. A skill from the Monster king. He wondered what it was.
Even though he still felt dread from the quest , the fact that he had something that would make things easier was a relief.
The AI continued. "You have received the skill [Assimilation ]- which allows you to consume the flesh of other monsters to improve your form. In addition , any creature that is assimilated , would become an available transformation for the host to assume , including all of the creatures hereditary traits. "
Salazar suddenly had trouble breathing. He was stumped.
This skill.....basically solved the greatest hurdle that would present itself if he were to actually agree to the task. His race. No monster would rally under a mudman even if the mudman was strong. They'd feel that it would be a disgrace on their superior bloodline , but with this skill , it would be possible for him to either create fear in them , or to trick them into serving him. Fear in the sense that they would be scared that he'd 'eat' them.
Still , servitude by fear or by respect didn't matter. As he glanced at the quest still floating before him, a strange calm settled over and he mentally shrugged. Sure why not. He was going to live a miserable , sad life in this world no matter what , unless he either died or committed suicide , so why not spice up his life a bit. And this was the way to do it.
You want me to become the Monster king , then so be it. I just hope that you don't regret this later on.
" F*ck it , I agree. I'll take the stupid lifelong quest. Just don't come crying to me when I actually become the Monster king. "
"Confirmation received. Starting revitalization. "
Light started to fill his vision. It seemed that his faculties like sight and movement , had been hindered until he agreed to the lifelong quest. He shivered , believing beyond any shadow of a doubt that had he rejected , he'd be dead again.
He opened his eyes....
