Navigating to the Quests Tab, Lorren tried to find what exactly he was supposed to do. After checking around, he came to two realizations. However, the first was definitely the worst.
'Soo, I'm really not a Main Character? But I have the system and everything!'
[Ding! Having a System does not make you a Main Character, Host.]
After his small internal outburst, the System promptly reminded him that there is more than a system to a main character. Quickly calming down, Lorren then checked his goal. To get VP, he would need to finish quests or do something that progresses the story. The Main Quest/Storyline is split into several parts, called Acts, and each one has several missions one must complete to finish them. Currently, Lorren is on Act 0, where he needs to befriend the MC.
'Actually, no. It should be MCs because if this a real world, the female version of the MC should also be here. I wonder what their relationship is? Besides that, what were their names? I believe it was... Ryan and Norah Efferen. They aren't orphans, nor are they rich 2nd generations. They come from commoner families with no record of abilities. Essentially the same as this body I inhabit. Also, if I remember correctly, their weapons should be a sword and a spear respectively...'
Lorren began to think. As he walked, however, he stopped for a few reasons.
[Ding! Main Characters detected!]
At the same time, he could see a few ability users, kids in fact, harassing others, probably from the same school. At this point, everyone was only 13, and finishing the current school year. In three years, they'd be old enough to get either their family name or pick their own new one if they get an ability. But that's the problem. Many nobles don't like commoners because they have to protect them. The same goes for their children. Nobles can buy mana condensers or mana crystals to awaken their children's abilities. But commoners? They can't. These people were likely harassing commoners, and it seemed they were using their family names too, even though they shouldn't. But who would report them? The commoners wouldn't since their life would get harder if they did. Even though the laws stopped kids from using their influence, it didn't matter if they were stronger than you. They could just beat you up to make you submit. And schools even encouraged this. Who cares if a commoner gets beat up? It'll just make them want power, which the schools can give. The same goes for gifted students. Who cares if your the best and a noble if you get destroyed by a commoner?
'However, I am different. I actually have a moral compass. Maybe. Possibly. Ok, maybe it's not a very good moral compass, but I still have one! Of course, once I get to hac- I mean borrowing servers, I'll have changed my moral compass just a bit. The only rule is just no hacki- I mean borrowing from anyone other than organizations/governments. Unless its for my friends. Maybe.'
Moving towards the bullies, after his internal monologue, he stopped for a second after realizing that he probably can't beat them. After all, he just got his ability, so let alone suffering the backlash, he might not even be able to activate it properly. As he realized this, he did the next best thing - taunting and rock throws. He looked for a rock before realizing that this street didn't have any. However, what he did find was a small smartwatch, likely dropped from one of the bullies during their scuffle with the victims, and he picked it up. However, as soon as he did, Lorren seemed to instinctively know how to use it.
'Oh right, my Tech Affinity attribute! Also, it seems that, like I wanted, this is exempt from the backlash unless I use its active part, which is improving the equipment with my skill. Since I can't beat them, I'll outsmart them.' Turning on the recording, he simply watched the show.
"Hey, you dirty commoner! Someone like you shouldn't have such a precious spear!"
"Hey, don't you dare touch that spear! My family used up nearly a quarter of their savings for that!"
"Hehe, alright. But since I can't get it, I have to be compensated, right? And that body of yours looks quite-"
SMACK
Before he could finish, the girl with the spear slapped him across the cheek. Being caught off guard, he stumbled onto the ground and looked up only to find the girl pointing her spear at him.
"Y-you b***ch! I'm from the Malkim family! I'll-"
Once again cut off, this time by Lorren, he turns his head in Lorren's direction. Finding someone to vent his anger (and probably forgetting about the spear) he makes an angry scowl before turning pale in fright. Why? Because Lorren got the whole thing on recording.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? Using your family's name to bully others into submission? Don't you know that's illegal? Ah well, guess I have to turn this in."
Regaining his wits, the guy gets back up, the girl's spear having been retracted after realizing what Lorren had done.
"What do you want to delete that video?!"
"Oh nothing much, just leave these two alone. Oh, and I keep the watch."
Though he seemed sad to part with the watch, the bully gave in due to fearing the repercussions of this video getting out. Lorren then put on the watch, walking towards the duo that were the victims. The bullies ran away, but not before the one that was caught saying those things made sure I deleted the video. Leaving after that, I was about to go when the girl caught up to me.
"E-excuse me, who are you?"
She seemed kind of scared, probably because she though I was another noble.
"Don't worry. I'm no noble or anything. Otherwise, would I need the smartwatch?"
Lorren's explanation seemed to make sense to her. She then introduced herself.
"Hi, I'm Norah. Norah.
"Y-yea, and I-I'm Ryan."
