"Then get out" Dami commanded ignoring her tears.
He was tired of seeing her cry, more like it was hurting him. He knew he was wrong and a bit harsh but he was not happy with the way she made him feel like he was desperate, at least that is what it seems like.
He was not like his father when it came to girls so seeing her make him feel desperate hurt his pride. He wasn't going to lie to himself that she did look delectable but pride was something he was aware and made friends with.
Mayo's felt like everything around her had died. She felt like dying. She felt like committing suicide. She loved Dami and didn't want to lose him. Why was he making her do this? She thought he had called her to marry but she should have known better. She had her doubt when the guard called her but she decided to believe in the guy she had been dreaming of, merging his reality with her dreams of him.
He didn't even care how she felt now, instead he was asking her coldly to GET OUT! What had she done to deserve this treatment from everyone? Whom had she offended to go through his? Nobody made her feel special and just when her self confidence was building up, the love of her life came to crush it. It would have been better if he hadn't called her but to be here with him, when he had finally noticed, she was not about to give him up. She wanted him badly. Why won't he understand that she would cherish him for the rest of her life? Why can't he see her love instead of her body? Well, he did recognise and want something from her. How comforting.
With pain in her heart, she said "Dami, you don't know how much I love you. Why won't you love me back? You are telling me to get out because I refused and gave you a condition. So, you really didn't want to marry me? I was just like the others. You couldnt see through me" she broke down in more tears.
Watching her cry was torturing. He had never made any girl cry and to witness it for the first was hurting. But why was it hurting him so much? Please go. He just wanted her out so he could breathe. Maybe, tomorrow he would think of something. He had no words to tell her that will console. The only thing he could say is that he would marry her which he wasn't prepared of or was he? He didn't know. He sighed in frustration.
Left with no option and ignoring her feelings, he said "Yes I couldn't. Why am I still respecting you? Leave. I have no need for you again. Go back. I will ask Shola to accompany you back home"
God, he really didn't want her. He hated her. Mayo sunk to the ground unable to keep legs firm again. Damilola moved to help her up but she rejected him and ran away from the room unable to bear or look at him. Dami sighed deeply, then he called "Shola!".
Immediately, Shola who was standing at the door came in to the room " Yes my Prince" he replied.
"Follow her and make sure she returns home safe". Things didn't go as planned" he commanded.
"Yes my prince" with that, Shola left.
Dami scratched his full, black nappy hair hardly as he slammed himself on his soft bed clothed in white wrapper. He couldn't get his mind off the girl, most especially her tears. It kept replaying in his mind.
As he rested, still engulfed with the event of the night, his father took the liberty to come in. Dami quickly adjusted himself to see the person who had the audacity to walk into his room without permission.
"Father, what is it?" Dami asked, not wanting to be disturbed.
"I just saw a beautiful short, plump girl run out in tears. What happened?" King Dele asked as if oblivious to what happened. He had been standing at the door listening to what was happening.
"I got her upset. She made me feel like I was desperate for her"
King Dele laughed coolly " Aren't we all desperate for them? You don't have to be on guard all the time. If you know you couldn't handle the innocent ones, you should have gotten the impure ones"
"Its not that. I just lost it a bit"
" Well, if you don't want her, I can...."
Before he could finish what he wanted, Dami stopped him "Don't even think about it. She is still my woman"
" Your woman? It doesn't feel like that. You should let your actions compensate your words "
"I know and I would sort it out tomorrow" Dami said understsnding who is father was
" Did you treat her like that because she looks like..."
"Mother" Dami said knowing what King Dele wanted to say
"Yes"
"Maybe. I don't know. Father, please will you leave? I need to rest" Dami said as he lay flat on the bed.
"OK, ok son go to sleep. I will see you tomorrow.
King Dele turned around to go but stopped to say something " Shouldn't you make sure she got home safe? Its quite late you know"
" I sent Shola to make sure she gets home safe" he said. He wouldn't want anything to happen to her. He won't be able to live with himself.
"OK" King Dele said in agreement. He turned around to go again before stopping to say "you know if you want, I can tame her for...,"
"Father No! Stay off my thing. There are a lot out there for you" King Dele smirked and left, finally.
Dami adjusted himself on the soft bed, still in thoughts of what happened. He shook his head and rolled on the bed. He was wrong. He Shouldn't have treated her that way. She was innocent after all. He somehow couldn't explain what came over him. Mayowa, he said the name in his head. What a beautiful name! He hoped she had gotten home safe. Still thinking, he tried to sleep waiting for the day break.
***************************
Mayo ran deep into the forest. She knew she couldn't go home like this. She needed somewhere to cool off. She kept running, not caring where she was going to. She felt like the problem were pursuing and she wanted to get away from it. The words Dami left her with kept replaying in her mind " Yes. Get out. I have no need for you. Please leave,"
Running a little more, she fell on the leafy as she screamed with everything in her. The weather was cold making her shiver more in pain. Why her? Why? Why was life this wicked to her? She couldn't help but think of how she was he called her beautiful. Even their first kiss was so beautiful. Did that also mean nothing to him?
Oh Dami, why do you do this?
Just as she continued crying alone in the forest, she heard something which made her flinch. Trying to comfort herself, she thought it to be a bird but when it started approaching her, she knew there was more to it. She turned around in fear to see what it was and was stunned...
