Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - Freshman Year

BANG BANG BANG BANG

I woke up with a fright. Sometimes supernatural hearing sucks especially when you put the most stupid sound for your alarm. I have to remember to change it. I rubbed my eyes, and I looked at the time.

6:30.

No new messages.

As usual. Why bother checking any messages.

"Ollie!" My stepmom said in a singsong voice. "Come down for breakfast! I made waffles!"

I smiled. Waffles were my favourite breakfast meal! I changed my clothes into a red T-Shirt and a NASA hoodie with black sweatpants. Nothing formal or fancy, just casual clothes. I brushed my hair and my teeth and I wore my converse shoes.

I look at the mirror, checking whether it suits me, because believe me, I am not going to look like a loser this year.

I get my old bag which I used in my old school before moving to Beacon Hills, and stuff the books and Sam's hoodie in the bag. I also take my Lacrosse stick to school, so I could try for the Lacrosse team.

Beacon Hills High School is popular for their lacrosse team, since it beat a lot of the schools. I never actually played in a lacrosse team, I just found it interesting when I got enrolled here. I put the bag around my back and then suddenly realized how heavy it is. Whatever.

The aroma of waffles reached my room and I just couldn't contain my excitement anymore, I ran downstairs to the kitchen, scaring my stepmom half to death.

"OLLIE, COME BACK HERE YOU LITTLE RASCAL!" My stepmom yelled at me. I quickly picked up the waffles and stuffed it in my mouth, before opening the door and running across the front yard, to get my skateboard.

I could hear my mom swearing at me, and I grinned before skateboarding to school.

————————————————————————————————————————

I'm actually surprised by how fast I skateboarded, usually it would take me at least 10 minutes to reach school according to Google Maps. The breeze of the air let my hair flow back and my hoodie and sweatpants were flapping because of how strong the breeze was.

Before I knew it, I reached school. I checked the time and it was 7:00. School starts at 7:30.

I started jogging towards the library, I heard there were a lot of books there. When I got there, there were not a lot of students, just a few who were studying in their senior year.

My eyes narrowed to a boy, around my age who was just sitting there reading a book. He looked really familiar so I decided to go up to him. Being a stupid boy, that's all.

"What book are you reading?"

"I'm reading 'The Moonlight Boy' by angelapoppe" He answered back, not looking at me once in the face.

(It's on Wattpad so go ahead and check that out!)

"I don't know why, but you seem a bit familiar..."

He turned to me, his grey eyes glistening.

"Oscar? Is that you?"

"Oliver?"

I hugged him and he hugged me back. We didn't stop until I noticed everyone staring at us. I pushed him gently and I took a few steps backwards, embarrassed and red in the face.

"What are you doing here? I thought you left my other school to go to Canada?"

"Yeah, but my dad got a job here that's really worth it, so I'm back."

"I missed you so much, you know."

"Me too, first year of Freshman eh?"

I nodded.

"Do you have double Chemistry with Mrs. Finch?"

"Yeah"

It was getting really awkward with both of us, so I just gave a quick nod and rushed back to the hallways. This is why I don't make friends, too much awkwardness. I just kept my face down and looked at my converse and that's when I bumped into... Sam

"Hey?"

"Hi," I answered back. I zipped my bag opened and got his hoodie out. I tried to give it to him but he refused.

"Keep it" His brown eyes locked on me, causing me to avoid eye contact.

I stuffed it back in my bag, and the bell rang, causing me to clutch my ears.

"Don't focus on the bell, you're going to be fine."

His arm gripped my shoulder and guided me to my Chemistry Class.

"How the hell did you know I had Chemistry?" I asked.

"I may or may not have heard you talking to your friend in the Library" He grinned before giving me a gentle push towards the class. I nodded at him before he left and I took a seat next to Oscar.

"So what was that about in the Library?" He asked.

I had a mini debate with my brain, wondering whether I should tell him or not. I didn't realise I was staring at Oscar for a few minutes...

"Earth to Oliver. EARTH TO OLIVER."

"Sorry, yeah umm.." I tried to put it in the best way possible so it's not awkward. "I got diagnosed with anxiety a year back so I don't really socialise..."

"Ah, okay"

He didn't talk to me for the rest of the class. Great work Oliver, just great.

Chemistry was really boring. Every second seemed to be an hour. No one seemed to be interested by Mrs. Finch except for a girl at the back, who seemed to be writing notes. Finally what seems like days, the bell rang indicating snack time.

Oscar decided to ignore me and ditch me as I accidentally knocked my water bottle and Mrs. Finch told me to clean it up.

The girl also decided to help me... so I decided to start with a friendly conversation.

"Why the hell are you helping me?" I asked, in an angry tone.

Okay... maybe not so friendly...

The girl looked quite taken back and I felt a bit sorry...

"I'm sorry, my friend is just getting in my head and it's really annoying."

I could hear her heartbeat return to a steady pace so I made an attempt to introduce myself.

"I'm Oliver Carson, what's your name?"

"I'm Anne Green, pleasure to meet you!"

She seemed really nice and her perfume smelled like roses.

"Your perfume smells nice..." I whispered so she couldn't hear anything. Wrong move Oliver.

"Um.. thanks?" She seemed a bit uncomfortable.

"Sorry, sorry, I didn't mean to say that..." I was desperate. This was the only person who actually talked to me. "I— I..."

"It's okay," She grinned at me. "I guess I have superior hearing or something."

I smirked. Little does she know. The bell suddenly rang which alerted me.

"Oh my god, you just missed your snack time." I groaned.

"It's okay, I wasn't planning on eating anyways."

"You sure?"

She nodded but I noticed her heartbeat accelerated, did I say something wrong other than the obvious awkward conversation I made. What did that mean?

"What's on your schedule?" She asked.

"I have maths with Ms. Fleming and then I have art."

"Ugh same. There's rumours that Ms. Fleming eats kids"

I laughed. It was really nice to have a friend. Especially a smart one..

2 hours passed by and I learned absolutely nothing in Maths and Art. I didn't even realise we had an art project due tomorrow until Anne asked me what I was doing for the project. I just looked at her with a confused pikachu face.

"We're supposed to be researching an artist. You can do the project in any way you could present it."

"I'll research Vincent Van something and I'll just write some facts about him, that'll be good enough."

"Silly, that's not good enough. This thing counts for 5% of our grades. And every 2 weeks we're gonna have a project that'll count for 5% of our grades."

She ruffled with my hair before going to the cafeteria to get some lunch, but she noticed the absence of me and turned around.

"You coming?"

"Oh, I thought you didn't want me to come..."

"I don't have any friends because I'm new here."

"Same!"

Lunch time went quickly and by the time I knew it, it was over. The bell ringing was like a trumpet next to my ear, and I seriously thought of cutting my ears off.

We had double biology that was taught by Mrs. Martin and then I had lacrosse tryouts. This day was getting tiring and tiring.

Double biology actually flew by because the teacher just let us watch a movie so we watched Avengers: The age of Ultron. The final bell rang and I automatically left the room.

"Where are you going?" Anne called after me, finally managing to catch up to me.

"I have lacrosse tryouts after school..."

"Cool, I'll be your personal cheerleader!"

"Nah, I'm probably not going to make it."

"Yes you are, I believe in you! Also, before you go, can we exchange phone numbers?"

"Sure"

————————————————————————

I headed to the boys locker room, and I was shocked by how many boys were trying out, I don't think I'll have a chance... unless..

I quickly changed into the lacrosse clothes and rushed out to the field with my lacrosse stick.

"Everyone gather around!" The coach yelled. "I'm Coach Finstock and I'm going to be your coach for lacrosse. If you get into the team... Anyways register."

"Oliver Carson?"

"Here"

"Oscar Grey"

"Here"

I turned around to see Oscar waving at me, I looked at him with a puzzled expression but waved at him back. I was thinking about him so much that the only reason I stopped thinking was because I heard a name.

"Calix Leo?"

"Here"

No, no, no. He could not possibly be in this school. Then there was a tap on my shoulder. I quickly turned around to see Calix standing there, smirking.

"Well, well, well, I never expected Ollie Wollie to try out for lacrosse. Maybe your anxiety won't even last you this week."

My stomach turned upside down. How could he possibly have known about my anxiety. Before I could utter a word, the coach blew the whistle meaning we all had to jog around the field.

Oscar jogged next to me, but I just looked down on my shoes again.

"Look I'm sorry for ditching you in History, Art and Biology."

"And chemistry. You didn't talk to me in Chemistry."

"Yeah I'm sorry about that. Look, it's just been really awkward not seeing each other for years, but can we restart our friendship?"

I gave him a quick nod before yelling at him that he's a slow poke. He rolled his eyes and started jogging faster. Before I could say that he wasn't fast enough, someone pushed me to the ground really hard.

"Whoops, sorry Oliver. Didn't see you there." Calix just stood there grinning at me, with his gang of friends.

"You know Calix, maybe you should find a better roast. It's getting really tiring now."

I didn't care that Sam told me to control my emotions or temper. I'm not gonna let this kid push me around like I'm a sack of potatoes.

"You wanna fight then Oscar? Doubt you'll win." He snickered and that's when I had enough.

I didn't care that I gave the first strike. I didn't care that everyone was circling around us, chanting us to fight. I didn't care that the Coach blew his whistle and yelled at me to stop. I didn't care that Anne was there, watching everything that was happening. I didn't care that Sam had to break the two of us apart and had to drag me to the locker room. As long as I saw his broken nose and his bruised eyes, I was satisfied. Sam was clearly not.

"Are you out of your mind!" He yelled at me.

He held me in a chokehold position, and locked his eyes on me, but I refused to talk to him.

"You're gonna ignore me huh?"

He blinked a few times to show his cold, red eyes.

"Last chance."

I refused to know or think what would happen, so I had to tell him.

"I have anxiety, I got bullied because of it, the boy over there was my bully so I decided to give him a taste of his own medicine."

He sighed and put me down.

"Don't ever do that again, you nearly shifted in front of everyone..."

"OLIVER, SAMUEL, WHAT'S TAKING YOU TWO SO LONG. DON'T TELL ME YOUR MAKING OUT."

"No we're not coach, I was just inspecting Oliver's wounds." He answered adding a wink.

Me and Sam quickly ran to the field, and I thought the coach was going to put me on the bench but what he said surprised me.

"What you did was something that wasn't good. In fact you broke a rule in this school Carson. Nevertheless, we need that behaviour in lacrosse. Congratulations, you made the first line.

"Coach, I didn't even pla—"

"Now go to the principal office immediately."

"Yes coach."

Well that was one good thing about today, but mother is going to kill me...
