" Business" I muttered with a sigh, I got up and went to the old pub, there I left a
message with the old owner, "it's done", to be honest, I was a bit curious about the
contents of the merchant's carriage, but the man's threat was still echoing in my
ears, "now what?" I said to myself, "a weapon" I muttered, I went to the blacksmith's
shop, the place was run by a tall bulky man, whose soft voice would have you
mistaking him for a girl, the people of the city learned the hard way the result of
making fun of him, the last 'man' who did it came out of the shop as a 'half', "I want
a pair of daggers and a chain-mail" I said, "and can you even pay for a pair of pants
let alone weapons" said the blacksmith, I kept my annoyance in check and showed
him the money, "that will do" he said "any special requests" he asked me after
calling his assistant, "make the chain mail light but sturdy and make a groove on the
sides of the daggers" "a deep one I stressed", he looked and me then "poison huh
quite unique?", I tried to hide my surprise, but he must have noticed it because he
laughed and said "come on kid chain mail and dagger are perfect for assassins or
undercover guards, you don't look like a guard nor an errand boy, so an assassin" he
laughed in triumph again, " sorry but I'm not an assassin nor a guard I'm a 'helper'" I
said "what kind of helper?" he asked I looked at him a bit then he said "how good are
you?" I was a bit surprised, but I still answered "I have yet to fail" 'because I have yet
to even start' I thought, "I see I may have something for you come to me in three
days", "alright" I answered, when I was at the door I asked him " what's your name
old man?" "Frode" he answered, I nodded and left.
POV, Frode.
" What an interesting young man", I muttered, "are you going to introduce him?"
said my assistant in shock, I chuckled and said "perhaps", "but master Frode you
retired from that line of work!", I looked at my assistant for a bit and shook my head
slowly, "I retired cause I had no other choice that kid might be my ticket back, my
ticket to the underworld" I sighed and lit my furnace.
" Frode," I muttered while walking out of the shop "seems like an interesting
guy" I laughed while thinking about that, "I wonder how is the guard doing", I
thought about checking about him since I have to resign from my job as well so I was
heading to the pub anyway, when I got in I found him sitting by the bar counter, I
approached the owner first and told him that I'm quitting my job today, I then hinted
to the old guard to follow me, we walked out of the pub and then went into an alley,
"it's done," he told me when I stopped walking "I see" I replied, I turned to him and
said "would you like to hear my offer?", "sure" he answered, "work for me," I said
"WHAT", he shouted, "why soo surprised" I chuckled, "what do ya mean why, what
can ya even offer me??", he glared while saying this, "money and security," I said, "
for your family" I added, "how much?", he asked "same as the last job", I replied,
"what do you want me to do?" he asked, I shook my head and told him "I will call you
when the time comes, leave now", "fine", he then turned around and left, I looked
around me for a bit, when my eyes fell on a mouse eating from the trash not noticing
the snake sneaking up on him, I walked out of the alley with my head full of thoughts,
when suddenly I remembered something my father told me, "life is a bunch of
choices, like these flowers, every choice is different no matter how similar they
look", I thought about the life of that guard, my life, and how such small changes will
bring upon us great disasters and great opportunities, it will always remain a mystery
how life works, how the little changes make the biggest impact.
