Next Morning
The morning sunlight fell on the lonely window making it glow.
Upon waking, Saar burrowed himself into the warm, soft sheets. He rubbed the remainders of sleep from his eyes and gazed out at the horizon; its vivid light extended across a rosy sky after raining all night. He supposed this was something the majority of people would consider beautiful, but he found it strange, hard even, to find something so meaningful in something so every-day. It's not like the sun wouldn't rise, it had, after all, been reliably happening since the beginning of time. So what was so special about it? He could never feel the joy from it others did, the magic that drew so many artists and photographers in as if they had some lens or filter he'd missed out on.
"Let's hope a clear sky the whole day"
He sat up on the bed, grabbed his thick-old-frames glasses from the table, sipped water and still getting adjusted from his drowsy state after all he only felt asleep very late almost two hours before daybreak. Since he only had a broken clock that never ticked nor other devices such to keep track of time his body got adapted and it became his habit to wake up early during daybreak. Even though the morning sun did nothing to brighten or add taste to his colourless and bland life it still proved his existence among billions of people.
He got up with his messy clothes and hair tousled over his eyes and went to the bathroom to freshen up. Moments later he came out to get ready to drink coffee from the vendors down the street opposite his apartment. But it would be an injustice to call it an apartment.
The complex where he lived consists of a few buildings which were quite decent despite the relatively average rent except for the one which Saar lived at the furthermost right corner in a dilapidated building which he shared with another sick old man waiting on his deathbed. No matter the facility, it is the best he could afford without starving.
Saar left home, went out to drink coffee and to buy breakfast which had always been his daily routine.
He is in 1st year of Leozect University which is renowned through the country Leozectria doing Biotechnology Hons. Here only a few among the countless geniuses get admission. But even with hardship filled life, he got himself into. He worked different part-time jobs after his classes were over which includes manual labour since 15 when he was at the 1st-year of high school. Since he wasn't adult yet, it's not easy to get a job. The ones he got, however, was really hard work with a low payment because they took advantage of unemployment due to age who cannot do anything besides working if they don't want to die starving much less Saar who is stubborn if he sets himself into something, unlike his lazy outlook.
He walked down the street with his droopy eyes looking down which were covered with waxy glass lens. The road was still wet witnessing the rain the day before.
Though there are many people on the street no one noticed him because of his inconspicuous presence.
He smelled the air deeply, the wet smell of rain soothed his nerves.
"How refreshing... "
He approached the food stall near the street in front of a house in the spacious lawn.
A little girl of age around 13 was seen serving the customers there. She had shoulder-length brown silky hair which was neatly tied into a ponytail. She had a cute and innocent face which would invoke affection in anybody which doesn't lose its effectiveness regardless of the sweat that accumulated during working.
Although she was small with little hands, she was precise in work showing her experience.
She was serving mainly noodles and tofu to the customers. Although the food was cheap here, the food was remarkable which was quite famous in this area so there was no lack of daily customers.
Saar did not sit on bench unlike others but sat on an uneven rock under a tree at a corner there
Saar turned to look towards the stall only to meet with the bright eyes of the girl.
"Elder brother Saar" She hurried over and pounced on him. She hugged him tightly with her little head between his chest.
" Mimi, more sugar today" he caught her and patted her head while caressing her dangling ponytail.
"Uuu~ elder brother Saar, you are no fun. I want to hug you a little longer, you smell so good. You always leave so soon. " She continued to hug him and acted like the little child which she was.
Her name was Mimiko. She went to a middle school in the locality. She was one of the very few things which sprinkled a little white light in his heart.
Saar just smiled and let her go. She went back to work taking the finished plates along the way.
"Heh, she is such a lovely girl " He mumbled.
"Mama, Elder brother Saar is here, get the breakfast ready. " Mimiko loudly called towards the stall.
