As the daylight quickly carne to an end, the shining sun lost its lustre and had trouble lighting up the all encompassing sky. Only the sun could protect the earth from everlasting darkness encircling the sky, but it had less will to work than a cat fast asleep, in the winter months.
On a normal day of spring or autumn, the sun would still float high on the sky, but that was far from true at the moment. That was because this week would be the last before winter solstice, a time where the darkness of the night seeped far into the day.
The only practical thing to do at that point would be to state into the fireplace, and imagine how nice a summer would be. It wasn't very productive but everyone had company. The whole family sitting near the warning fire, inside the house and cut off from the snowfall of outside.
Telling stories, sowing and playing, everyone was occupied. As the mother, Dagfrid, span string for clothes, she looked at her kids with a smile. In the winter it was hard to come by warmth, but her eyes could match any fire's. She was a person of love. She could love all and all would love her.
The greatest example of this would be her children. As a mother she could never dream of ever hurting them, and that could be felt in every move she would make. Although she was strict many times, she would often let them loose if they so wanted.
"And the very last time, in a land far, far away, a great person was traveling," she said. Her children were snuggling together by the fire, away from the cold walls keeping out the snowfall.
"He was the Kings loyal friend and helper. He was the Kings only helper. He was the only one the King would trust his duties to. He was the greatest person to ever lived. He had slain all the dragons of the north. He had killed all the orcs in the west. He had enslaved all the elves in the east. He had killed all of the other Kings of the world. He was the only pure person to ever live in our world."
The story was once again the tale of our Hero. The great person who had saved the country from ruin and made the life of all living beings better.
"It was a long time ago." she continued. "So long that only the amaranth trees in the grand forests remember. The Hero and the King looked over the unending plains they had conquered from the other Kings and the Dukes. The strong wind carrying scents from far away lands blew back the hair of the two great men."
"No living being will live as long as the trees, the Hero said. They can sense all in the forests and will keep their secrets forever. You and I have lived long. Longer than any human before us, but all things in this world will end. He closed his eyes, and together, alone in their thoughts and from other people, they withered away. The wind, carrying scents and flower petals now also carried their ashes. The two men would be dispersed over all of the world.
