Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Sidestory: A Lunch Date with Two Beauties!

Lazaro shouts,

"You didn't have to beat us THAT hard!"

The animal-like woman replies,

"You can't blame me! I got hungry, okay!"

Lily begs,

"Just try to hold back next time... I'm begging you..."

The three sit in a restaurant eating and talking. They sit at a four-person table, with the woman on one side and the rest on the other.

Lazaro and Lily have normal portions, but the woman has a heap of food in front of her. Lazaro asks,

"We lasted longer than five minutes, right? Tell us more about you, Ms. Laine!"

Lily says,

"I don't care either way... But it would be nice if you did that, Ms. Laineus..."

Laine answers,

"Hm... I did promise... Fine! I'll tell you a bit more!"

She begins explaining,

"Well, I'll start with a quick review! You already know, but I'm Laineus Felencia, a [Warrior] and [Adventurer] of the Estrelia Kingdom. You should also know that I was hired to train you two while your friend is gone on a mission."

She continues,

"Now, I'll give you some fun facts! Hm... First, I'm ranked the seventh [Adventurer] in the country!"

Lily comments,

"I already knew that."

Lazaro shouts,

"Me too!"

A little annoyed, Laine exclaims,

"Fine! Well... I'm a demi-human..."

Lazaro replies,

"That was pretty obvious, but what kind are you?"

Laine answers,

"I'm a tiger!"

Lily mumbles,

"A tiger? Tiger demi-humans are pretty rare, right?"

Laine shouts,

"Of course! Apex predators, like me, are national treasures!"

Lazaro begs,

"More! More!"

Laine replies,

"Uh... Oh! My title is, [The Burning Roar]! Pretty cool, isn't it?"

Lily says,

"The 'roar' I can understand... But why 'burning'?"

Laine explains,

"I haven't showed you yet, but I have an affinity with [Fire-Magic] and I use [Fire-Type Skills]!"

Angry, Lazaro shouts,

"Does that mean you were taking it easy on us!?"

Lily puts her hand on Lazaro's back and disappointedly mutters,

"I think that's for the better..."

Pushing his chair back and standing up, Lazaro exclaims,

"Why do we have to go through this training anyways!? We should be helping Saiba, right!?"

Laine flicks Lazaro's forehead while shouting,

"Calm down, kid!"

Lazaro sits back down while rubbing a red spot on his head. Laine explains,

"I don't really wanna do this either, but I was paid and a job's a job."

Lazaro replies,

"Me and Lily are out here getting beat up, while Saiba could be needing our help right now!"

Lily suggests,

"I have to agree with him here. If you don't want to, I see no problem in leaving."

Laine says,

"I can't do that. I have morals and the guy who hired me is probably gonna get mad if I don't do it right."

Lazaro continues,

"Just beat him up! You're ranked number 7, right? You should be strong enough!"

Laine replies,

"Hm... Let me put it this way... Would I be strong enough to win a war against the whole Kingdom?"

Lazaro falls quiet. Laine asks,

"So, this friend of yours... I heard that he's the new Hero..."

Lily answers,

"That's right."

Laine asks another question,

"Do you guys plan on following him all the way?"

Lazaro nods and Lily replies,

"Of course."

Laine explains,

"His path is a dangerous one... You could get killed if you aren't careful..."

Lazaro shouts,

"We can handle ourselves! We've already made it this far, we'll make it all the way!"

Laine continues,

"The world is a big place. I'm pretty strong myself, but there's things out there that are even stronger. Things beyond your imagination. If the two of you can't even beat me, who knows what'll happen to you out there..."

Lazaro says,

"Then we'll get stronger, but we don't need someone's help to do that!"

Laine suggests,

"Look, your friend was given a mission. I'm sure he's out there giving it his all, getting stronger and whatnot. As his friends, you're relying on him to do whatever he has to do to come back, stronger than before."

Lily thinks,

"Giving it his all? I doubt that, but I'll play along..."

Laine continues,

"At the same, you two were given your own mission. You're here with me, training to get strong. As your friend, he's relying on you to do whatever you have to do to get stronger."

She adds,

"If you guys gonna follow him like you said, you're gonna have to be strong enough to do it. In my opinion, the best way to do that is with me. If you can't do it for me or yourself, do it for him. He's relying on you. You wouldn't wanna slow him down, right?"

Lazaro scratches his chin and decides. He shouts,

"Fine! I'll do it! For Saiba! Right, Lily?"

Lily mumbles,

"Yeah, for the Hero."

Laine gives them both headpats and says,

"I knew you come around! Let's go train again! There's nothing better than a spar after a good lunch!"

Lazaro replies,

"Sure! Let me just finish my... food..?"

He glances down and looks confused. His food is completely gone as he looks back towards Laine. She's holding Lazaro's empty plate with a mouthful of food.

Lily facepalms as Lazaro's expression becomes angry. During this, Laine remembers something as she mentions,

"Oh right! Lily, I have a message for you! Remind me to tell you later!"

Lazaro interjects,

"Don't just ignore me!"

Laine laughs at Lazaro as they finish lunch.
