As they stray away from the table, the sun begins to set behind the mountain. With this being the case, the students of Class 1-B decide to set up camp.
With little struggle, they put up two tents. One for the boys and one for the girls. A student suggests,
"What about a fire?"
Rose takes the initiative and digs her staff into the ground. In front of her, wooden roots sprout out, perfect for firewood.
Another student, relaxing against a tree, takes a wand and points it at the group of lumber. He yawns and mumbles,
"Will O' Wisp..."
A small spark flies from the tip of his wand and grows into a large ball of fire. It collides with the pile of wood and lights on fire.
At the same time, the student shuts his eyes and dozes off to sleep. Saiba asks Gram,
"Who's that guy?"
Gram answers,
"U-Uh... He's ranked #13, Rasco Tevrel... He could probably rank Top 10 or even Top 5, but he always falls asleep in class..."
Saiba gets a better look. Rasco is a tall boy with dark brown hair. He's wearing a brown robe with a hood that droops over most of his face. In his hand, he grips a wand with a dull, red jewel embedded into the base. The same student that suggested a fire then shouts,
"I'm starving! Does anyone have any food!?"
Right on time, Gordie comes stomping in like a beast. Over his shoulder, he lugs the corpse of a [Wild Boar] into the campsite. A student compliments him,
"I knew we could count on you, Gordie!"
Gordie grunts in return. A group of students handle the cooking as they tear apart the pig's body and roast it over the open flame. They present the food and shout,
"Dig in!"
The class excitedly grab skewers of boar meat as Saiba comes last, reluctantly taking a serving. He thinks,
"Can these guys even cook? I mean, they did look pretty competent when they were making it..."
He takes a bite, chews it, and swallows it down. With a straight face, he mutters,
"There's no flavor!"
Gram walks beside him and says,
"Well, they don't have any seasoning, so we have to make do with what we have now..."
Saiba thinks,
"I really wanna go back to Ms. Isabelle's house and have some of her curry again!"
They finish eating and douse the flame as the class heads to bed. Through the night, it's hush, except for the occasional grasshopper call.
Saiba yawns as he wakes up in the middle of the night. He sits up and looks around as he notices a light and two silhouettes through the fabric of the tent walls.
Tiptoeing around the sleeping kids, he takes a peek. Still half-asleep, he spots the two silhouettes, but decides not to care as he waddles to bed and falls back asleep.
The next day, the class awakens, fired up and full of energy. Saiba notices Gram looking a little worn out, but thinks,
"He's probably just not used to all of this.."
Robbie leads the group as they venture towards the mountains. All throughout the journey, they encounter different challenges.
For example, they encounter a wood-chopping challenge where they must cut a certain amount of wood as fast as they can.
The time starts as the students with bladed weapons, like swords and axes, struggle to cut wood. Saiba whispers something to Gram.
Enlisting the assistance of Gordie as well, Gram nods and gets to work. The cylinders of wood disappear from the pile as a student asks,
"Are we done..?"
He looks around and sees the remaining wood in a straight line. Saiba stands at front and swings his sword down while shouting,
"Crimson! Strike!"
A razor-sharp wave leaves his blade. It's dyed the same color as blood. Like a knife to butter, the attack slices through the chunks of wood with ease. Additionally, it slices some trees in-half before fading out.
The female teacher at the challenge table announces,
"Th-That's a new all-time record! All 100 logs in 2-2-2-27 seconds!"
The students cheer while Saiba asks Gram,
"What's the old record?"
Gram answers,
"Um... Around a minute, I think..."
Shocked, Saiba mutters,
"Oh... I understand..."
The students walk to Saiba and congratulate him,
"You're crazy, man!"
"Honestly! It feels like we're cheating!"
Saiba giggles and blushes. They do two more challenges that day, a hole-digging challenge and a scavenger hunt challenge.
As expected, they break the previous record by more than half. They celebrate and party through the night.
As midnight hits, the valley falls silent once more. All the people taking part in the Camping Field Trip rest up, preparing for the days still to come. All except for two individuals.
Like last night, Saiba is suddenly awoken as he notices the two silhouettes once again. This time, he decides to take a better look.
Stumbling out of his sleeping bag, he wanders out of the tent, following the light, similar to a moth drawn to a flame.
As he approaches, one of the silhouettes spots him and lets out a scream.
