It's been a week since the incident.
You know the incident. Don't make me say it.
Things have been quiet in school because Austin was MIA for the week. So no confrontations. But I know people are still talking about it.
I usually don't care or dwell on things that happened in school. But this one feels different. I don't know why but it does. Crazy right? I feel as irritated as Oliver who by the way confronted his dad and struck a deal. He'll go with his dad to Rome only if he finishes his senior year here in New York.
If this was Austin's way of getting back at me, he really chose the wrong person to kiss.
"Can I get a decaf?" A short blonde woman at the opposite side of the counter said. She seems to be in a good mood, like she won a lottery or something. I wish I won a lottery then I can get myself as much Tequila that I could possibly crave for.
"Sure. That will be $2.35" I turn around to pour some coffee in to a paper cup when my work colleague Alex walks in with a large carton in his arms.
"Jaz, Boss wants you to go through this Nescafe products. Sort out the expired and not expired ones."
He drops the carton at my feet as I turn around and give the woman her coffee. She drops the money on the counter and waves goodbye to Alex and I. Such a nice one.
"No he didn't " I know Alex. My Boss tells him to do stuff like this and he tells me to do them.
"Why would I lie about This?" He leans on the counter with a wide grin on his face.
"Why would you say the truth about anything?" I challenged, leaning on the counter to with my I'm gonna get you grin.
Alex is a smart kid but always so dumb when it comes to playing me.
"Okay I'm serious Jaz"
"No you're not"
"I am. Look at me"
"I am looking at you. And that twitch with your left eyebrow tells me you're lying" I laughed when he widened his eyes in shock. My observant self can be very scary to-- He's here.
Breathe in. Breathe out.
One Mississippi.... two Mississippi... three Mississippi... four-
"Can I get two cups of coffee. One strong and black. One with cream, decaf." I have been practicing all week what I will say and do to Austin the next time I see him, but now he's here, I feel like a soaked marshmallow. And not in a good way.
I can't let him see my face just yet so I quickly bend down to pick up the carton and walk out as fast as I can leaving Alex to attend to him.
Immediately I stepped into the storage room, I let out a breath I didn't realise I was holding. All of a sudden I felt so hot. Maybe because the storage room has no ventilation. Yeah that would be the reason.
Austin and I have been on each other's throat since the day I confronted him about allowing his goons bully Oliver. No one has ever stood up to him before. So imagine everyone's surprise when the new girl stands up to the King of the school.
I really hate bullies. And I am not scared of anyone who dares bully me or anyone I love. Even if it's Donald Trump himself. So Austin was just a piece of cake.
From how dangerous everybody in school described Austin to be, he really hasn't done a lot when it comes to retaliation or getting his revenge. Just a little prank over there, some diss over here or spreading false rumors through the school and being a bad lab partner by letting me do all the work.
But I always come back equally as hard at him.
It's all fun and games with him. But it's not with me. I have a reputation to maintain. Getting as many straight A's as possible and getting into a good school has been my number one priority. Austin won't be the reason I lose focus of my goal.
I open the box of Nescafe products and let out a loud groan when I see the contents of what's actually inside the box. It's dog food and papers for our German shepherd Dez. That dog hates me. And Alex knows that quite well which is why he wanted me to take the box.
"Is everything okay in there?"
Shit.
"You're not supposed to be back here"
"I was looking for the bathroom when I heard a noise in here." I hate him so much. I think the word "hate" is an understatement of how much I hate him.
"Everything is fine. Go back to looking for the bathroom." Which is on the other side of the diner. Austin has no excuse for being back here. He probably saw me leaving the counter and came back here to taunt me some more.
No way.
My inner bitch puts on her fighting gloves and shoes as I open the door ready to face this Jerk.
"Gee Austin, I've heard of Kiss and tell, never Kiss and Run. Did you die of embarrassment? Is that why you went awoof!"
Note to self; never say awoof ever again.
"I did die of embarrassment when I realised it wasn't Sabrina lips I kissed..."
Ouch!
That stung. That stung real bad.
Son of a bitch.
"... I had to go for a little penance to redeem myself" The look in his eyes tells me how proud of himself he is right now. Just like me, Austin is an egotistical bastard, so he must be really enjoying this.
"Try not to kiss the wrong person on Monday. Seeing as you rather kiss trash than the real deal, there's a trash can right there. Why don't I get it for you so you can prep up for school?"
Atta girl!
I stiffen when I felt him grab my arm and pulled me close to him. So close that I could feel his belt buckle on my tummy. His breath fan my face and I swallowed hard. His green eyes locked on mine, shooting daggers at the wall I built up around me for many years.
"Are you saying yours is the real deal?" He whispered.
The girl in me is fanning herself as she came to the realisation of how extremely hot Austin really is. While my inner bitch is going through my books of clapback to find the perfect one to say back to him.
While she's doing that, I take a moment to really look at Austin Skye; my arch-nemesis.
My eyes dart up to his Jet black hair that sometimes fall to his face. I suddenly remember all the times I stop to watch him when he pushes his hair during P.E.
I never noticed he has such full and bushy eyebrows. The way they create a frame for his eyes, which by the way are still shooting daggers at me.
His eyes. Green crystal eyes. If crystals were green, that will be the color of his eyes. Down to his high and defined cheekbones, down to the little sprout of hair right under his nose.
My eyes move to his lips.
They're prefect
The girl in me does a cartwheel as she bats her eyelashes at his lips. Which are now turning up into a smile.
Okay Timeout!
I look up to see that Austin has been watching me look at his features. Hot features the girl in me corrects.
I take a step back as I hear someone clear their throat just nine steps away from me. My eyes widen as I see my boss standing right in front of his office with arms crossed on his chest.
He has probably witnessed the whole ordeal between me and Austin.
Shame on you girl.
"It isn't bring your boyfriend to work day, is it Jasmine??" He asks with so much distaste
"B..boy.. boyfriend??" I stutter because what the hell!
My boss looks from me to Austin then back to me again "show him the way out, will ya?" With that he returns to his office.
I sigh with frustration and turn to face Austin.
He's gone.
