Chapter 25 - Chapter 25

[Amelia's POV]

In all honesty, the real thing was terrifying. Massive wingspan, massive jaws, and the intimidation that existed in my head couldn't, and wouldn't flatten. As if that would stop me. Its vibrant red wings flashed like an approaching fire, and little did I know that's what would come next.

"And here comes our first contestant, Amelia Silverliner!" Dumbledore boomed. I looked back at some of my Ilvermorny friends, who waved back cheerily. I poked my tongue back at them. All in good spirit, of course. As much as I wanted to look back, I had to look forward. That monster could strike at any moment. "Your time starts now!"

I lurched myself forwards like a racehorse at the starting gates. A bit of a maniac move, if you ask me, but it was necessary. The Fireball made an almost exact replica of my action, and instantly began shooting spitballs of fire. I wish I could just "Accio" the egg over, but that was banned.

"I wish this wasn't such a trek" I pondered. I wanted the fame and glory so much, I could taste it! But, over the course of the drowning days and worn-out weeks, everything had just… faded away.

"Forfeit, Amelia. Forfeit. You never really wanted this. Forfeit." My brain chanted. All of a sudden, one of those meteors struck my hair and all hell broke loose. I flailed like a madman scrambling for survival, which seemed quite ironic, as I quickly casted a non-verbal charm to remove the flames, ending up on the other side of the arena. The egg was in my sights, and the temptation to summon it over was almost unbearable. I held out my wand straight, hand quivering.

"Come on. Get this over and done with!" The rash side of me called.

"You could literally do anything else to obtain the egg…" Logic coerced.

And, stunningly, logic prevailed, hand resorting to flicking the Conjunctivitis Curse at the dragon, effectively blinding it, its big frame trudging in the opposite direction. Opportunity was easily and successfully seized.

"And there she has it, folks! Amelia Silverliner moves on to the next task!" I took a quick glimpse at the crowd, Mexican waving banners of all sorts, screaming their lungs out and my ears off. Too drained to absorb it to my preferred extent of 'fully', I dawdled back wearily.

"I did it… It wasn't pretty, but I did it." My back ached, hair singed and covered in soot, as I held the golden egg in my hands. A beacon of light, so to speak.

"Good job." Theseus smiled and shuddered simultaneously. I'd assume that he was going through a train wreck of a time, doing three or so things. Sitting. Contemplating. Waiting.

"Sooo, you got incinerated!" Henry smiled, "I was right." His grin that was once content now stretched from ear to ear. He brought himself closer to me, and his face was in view. Not just any old view. The ultimate view.

"Is it just me, or is it hot in here?" I giggled, gazing up at his enchanting emerald eyes.

"It most certainly is." He snaked his arms around my waist, pushing his masculine figure up against my short stature. We froze in time for a few seconds, staring at the amount of awe that we both saw in each other, and that we both possessed. He brought a gentle finger up to my cheek, my face reddening with every second it lingered there. I could feel something else coming, but there was nothing to show for it. As he slowly untangled his arms from me, I gave him the biggest pash, having to stand on my tiptoes to reach his perfect lips. I left him virtually breathless. It was so… unexpected of me... and quick, and impulsive! I wish it would have lasted longer, but, of course, Theseus the buzzkill began coughing, so as to intentionally break us apart. Otherwise, we wouldn't have.

"You just rocked my world!" he beamed, panting like an exhausted puppy.

"Now go rock theirs!" I slapped him on the shoulder, gesturing to the expansive wasteland outside.

He nodded back in agreement, striding forward like the champion he was.
