Chapter 53 - Chapter 52

"This has been quite a morning. I had a struggle getting out of bed." Agent Ross sat at his desk drinking his coffee.

"Have you found anything, Sir?"

"This kid is like a ghost. There is no record of him except for him being raised by his dad, who was a politician, and a mother who was a stay-at-home mom?"

"You said was Sir?"

"Yes, she sadly passed away. His dad was recently killed. All files of the dad's killing are gone."

"Agent Ross, I want to see you in my office."

Josh's eyes grew wide, "the chief looks pretty pissed. Is there something you did?"

"No, not that I know of.

He never spoke to me like that before, last week, we had a BBQ at his place, and everything was fine?"

"Well, whatever it is, you got him worked up, or someone pissed him off."

"Agent Ross," the Chief shouted from his door, "You better go. That's not good. I will catch up with you later."

"Yes, Sir, I am on my way."

"Chief? You are looking for me?"

"Yes, I am," said the Chief as he lit the cigar, he was a big bald guy wearing a white shirt with a black tie never tied right to the top.

His sleeves were rolled up to his elbow, and he had more extensive hands than the average person.

At first glance, his appearance seemed intimidating.

The Chief walked to the blinds closing them all, as the staff at the desk looked at each other.

They had never seen their Chief like this before.

"Do you know why you are here?"

"No, Sir, I don't."

"Sit down there." the Chief sat on the table.

"What's the latest case you are working on, Ross?"

"A homicide case, Sir."

"Who instructed to take over the crime scene?"

"Sir, I took over because these guys that were shot we were investigating for over a year."

"And what's the involvement of Angela and Jack?"

"Excuse me, Sir?"

"What don't you understand relating to the question I have asked you, Ross?"

"We just want to bring them in for questioning because Angela pulled the trigger."

"It's called self-defense Ross. What's there to question?"

"Don't you have a statement?"

"No sir, the officer at the crime scene handed the documents over to the agent on duty when the car exploded. All evidence of that crime scene is burned into ashes."

The Chief stood up from the table, lighting another cigar, walking over to the window, "have you ever heard of the term never wake a sleeping dog?"

"Yes, Sir, I have."

"Now, as you said, the evidence to that crime scene is gone. There is nothing to investigate, no one to question."

"But, Sir, maybe we could bring down the people behind this?"

"Ross, you were like torn cloth when we took you in. Now you like a tablecloth. However, all cloth gets worn and torn the more we use it."

"Let's not wake the sleeping dog, and else we will have to replace that tablecloth with new ones. I prefer old cloth, personally.

It saves me money."

"You do understand what I am saying, Agent Ross?"

The chief walked up to him and pushed his hand down on agent Ross's shoulder. "I am glad we understand each other. Now get out of my office."

Agent Ross stood up and walked out of the office.

Surprised and unsettled by what had just happened, he proceeded to his desk and reached for his diary. He opened it to the middle, where a number was written down with a question mark.

Josh walked over to him, "is everything fine, Sir? You look pale?"

"I am fine, thanks," agent Ross took his diary, walked outside the office, and called the number.

It rang for a while before the person answered, "Jack, thank you for your time yesterday.

We no longer need to bring you in for questioning."

"I know Ross, your chief already called me."

"Take care, Jack." Agent Ross hung up the phone.

He had two choices, one risking losing his job or the other pretending this case never happened.

"It's good to have you back, Nicole. How are you feeling?"

"Much better, thank you, my headache is gone, and im slowly starting to remember what happened that day."

"That's good, but do me a favor. If you remember anything, please come to me first."

"Yes, of course, you and your brother were here for me throughout this, and you guys are all family I have."

Angela hugged her. "I would like your opinion on something Nicole."

"Sure, what is it?"

Angela called her over, "I have developed this app."

Angela sat there, showing her the app. Nicole was amazed, "do you realize how much money this app can bring in?"

"I know, and im having it go live. It will be available on Microsoft, iOS, and Android."

"You can save thousands of lives with this app."

"Have you decided if you will make users pay for it, or will you monetize this app?"

"A subscription amount of $1 a million users equals a million $1."

"With all these scams, will you trust this application?"

"Well, they can download, and with a friend's recommendation, they could earn a free month without payment. There is also a beta tester version, where we invite developers to improve the UI."

Claire walked over to the table, holding a cup of coffee, "what are you talking about?"

"Angela developed this fantastic app that I think people will love."

Claire curiously looked at the screen; all she saw were green lines running over each other with red and blue dots and coordinates at the bottom of the screen.

On the right top are flicking red and green numbers. Angela then switched to python, where there was encrypted coding. "What is all this?" Angela stood up and walked to the window as Claire and Nicole followed her.

"I never knew it was raining."

Angela wore a three-quarter top with long sleeves and a jean. Her hair hung over her shoulder, exposing her collarbone, "lovely day outside. I love watching the raindrops run down the window."

Claire stood beside Angela, and it was as if her eyes had changed color according to the weather, Claire had on black sweatpants and a grey tank top, and her hair was well-plaited with purple streaks in it.

"Who is that over the road?"

Nicole came closer; she wore baggy black pants and a tank top with sandals.

"I don't see anyone; that car looks empty," Angela turned around and walked back to her computer, looking at the app she designed; it's parked there for an hour, and the license plate is the feds.

"As per the live update, the facial identification indicates he is two meters away from the car. Agent Ross's update says he was thrown off this case."

"Angela, do you realize what you have programmed?"

"I know. That's why it will go into the right hands."

"Who is the right hands, the public?"

"Maybe, who knows? Right now, I need to know what is agent Ross doing here?"

"We could always find out?"

"No, let's wait it out. Maybe he is opposite the other house."

Angela's phone rang, "Hi Angela, I hope you and your friends are well. Can you please come in?"

"Yes, I can."

"When do you want me to come in?"

"As soon as possible, please."

"Nicole, please go get dressed. We are going to the hospital."

"Is everything okay with Marcus?"

"I don't know, Claire, that is why we are going in."

"Okay, I will wait here if that's okay."

"Sure, you may stay if Jack looks for us. Please tell him to come over to the hospital."

"Sure will do so. Please keep me updated on Marcus's recovery."

"We will keep you updated," Nicole came downstairs; she was wearing a flowery dress and a leather Jacket with a pair of boots that went as high as her knees.

Her curly hair came to her shoulder. Nicole looked much better than before; her health was improving. "We are heading out. If you get hungry, there is plenty to snack on; make yourself at home."

"Thank you for your hospitality."

The clouds had started to thicken, and the thunder had started to roar like a hungry lion cornering its prey.

"Don't you guys think you need to take an umbrella?"

"You are right; thanks, Claire. These clouds look dark and thick so that it might rain."

Angela walked over to the kitchen corner where they had always left umbrellas.

She picked up the umbrella when she saw a pendant under the umbrella, "this belongs to mom. Why is it still here," the pendant was a silver heart engraved with a rose.

When Nicole called her, Angela was about to open it up, "it's starting to rain; we need to get to the car."

"Angela took the pendant and placed it in her pocket, running to the car."
