Chapter 22 - Chapter 21: Successful Escape!

Bang!

With his shoulders firmly gripped and held to the surface, Arlo was harshly pressed onto the tabletop!

Arlo winced in pain. He had heard a little cracking sound when he was shoved onto the table. Not knowing if something broke or not, Arlo prayed that it was the latter and not the former.

Abner furrowed his brows together and frowned. He didn't understand what was happening, nor the situation they had somehow landed in. But he does know that what is going down right now is ticking him off.

And that's a serious issue.

Generally, Abner is a calm and not easily agitated person, however, once his friends are involved, he would never go light-handed on the aggressor.

Currently within Abner's heart was a brewing storm dark as the rain clouds loaming over the sky when they are about to pour their wrath onto the earth.

Dashing forward, Abner recklessly yet confidently attacked one of the two soldiers holding Arlo down. Delivering blow after blow, punch after punch, kick after kick, at the outraged albeit helpless soldier, Abner was relentless with his attacks and merciless with his strength.

The soldier's nose was broken again and again, his face nearly deformed before his comrades came back to themselves from the shock and surprise of Abner's gall to actually go against them, the guardians of this town, and go to rescue their teammate.

One against many.

Abner was surrounded and overwhelmed by the sheer number of opponents he had to face. Yet despite being in this situation where a majority of others would find overwhelming and unnerving, Abner's heart and mind were one and the same: calm.

With precision and deadly focus, Abner went against each and every one of his professionally trained opponents. Exchanging blow for blow, dodging weapons, and spilling blood.

Even while fighting against so many enemies Abner did not forget that his end goal was to rescue Arlo.

Knocking back the soldiers, Abner finally got rid of the other soldier holding down Arlo. Pulling him up from the table surface, Abner had no opportunity to be distracted.

Continuing to battle with the soldiers, Abner was nearly hit by one of the uniformed men when Ash came to his rescue.

With a fist brimming with explosive power, Ash swing it accurately at the soldier's head who was targeting Abner, directly knocking that soldier out and giving him a huge concussion.

The spectator that was previously watching at the side finally went into action. It wasn't without reason that Ash gave a helping hand to Abner and Arlo. If it was anyone else, even if they had saved his life, he might not have helped them.

But from what he had observed of Abner's personality and nature, Ash deemed Abner to be a respectable and faithful man even with his young age. He was also terrific at fighting.

However, ultimately, this all lead Ash to be reminded of Abner, his best friend and brother.

The Abner before his eyes remind him more and more of the Abner he knew and was close to the more he observes him. The way he talked, his bravery, his willingness to help his friend no matter what, and right now. Right now where he is going against the guards of this town, which will most likely force a criminal title onto him.

Seeing what he saw and understanding what he knew. Ash was willing to help this Abner who resembles his Abner.

Stepping into the fray, Ash bellowed out at the top of his lungs, "COME AT ME YOU IMBECILES!!!" With that, Ash started his onslaught of blood and carnage.

He wasn't light handed at all with the town's "guardians". In fact, every one of his strikes contained his current full strength!

His notoriety of being hot-tempered, barbaric, and brutal wasn't without merit! All his attacks were fiery and ferocious—the same as his unconcealed temperament.

He aimed to kill!

Still in the midst of a fight, Abner was surprised as he watched out of the corner of his eyes at Ash's figure pounding at the numerous soldiers surrounding him.

Gradually, the two fought back to back, watching out for one another.

When someone tried to catch Abner off guard and injury him, Ash intervened and gave him a spinning kick in the stomach.

When Ash was facing many at once and was about to be overwhelmed, Abner stepped in and helped Ash take on some of his burden.

It was a perfect coordination.

Ash felt his heart pounding and his breathing hitch as he fought side to side, back to back, with Abner. His blood was pumping with excitement and adrenaline.

Inside his heart, the seed that was planted previously, inconspicuously sprouted. Ash felt it, but ignored it, thinking it was impossible.

Seeing the situation turn dire, the captain of these soldiers ordered for more reinforcements to come and take down the "criminals" who dared to assassinate the governor of the town.

As the numbers increased and the pressure rising instead of sinking, Abner rapidly scanned the area and processed and went through many formulated escape plans in his head.

Finally, as if suddenly remembering something important, Abner sharply whipped his head to look at Ash. The intense glare in his eyes conveyed all the words he wanted to say.

Surprisingly, and inexplicably, Ash was shocked to find that he understood what it was that Abner was trying to tell him without the other conveying it to him verbally.

Nodding his head, Ash prepared himself for whatever would come next. Unknowingly putting his trust in Abner.

The fight went on for a few more seconds, with tables and bones breaking, when Abner saw an opportunity—an opportunity for his escape plan to begin.

Ducking a weapon slicing through the air aiming to cut him down, Abner at the same time retrieved something from his boots.

Something with a black luster. Something slightly heavy. Something cold and metallic. Something that is a gun.

Holding the same gun that he had obtained from his venture into a certain city lord's mansion, Abner loaded the gun and shot with the same precision and accuracy he had shown that particular night at the soldiers.

The captain of the guards' eyes widened before narrowing. His brows knitted tightly together.

The situation was getting troublesome and out of hand.

He shot mostly at the soldiers near the inn's windows. His actions and movement was so subtly carried out that no one knew what he was aiming for except for himself.

By the time Abner had achieved what he was going for, it was already too late for the soldiers and the captain to react.

Gesturing for Ash to grab the continuously-dodging-attacks Arlo, Abner took the lead in jumping out of the window and shooting at the guards outside of the inn that had surrounded the entire perimeter.

Creating a path, Abner led Ash and Arlo safely out of the inn and onto the streets with the soldiers hot on their heels.
