Synopsis
It was the year 2154 when the so-called ‘Treaty of Eternal Peace’ was put forward into motion by the United Nations with the backing of all 8 major world powers of the time. The amendment unified the fragmented nations of Earth into a planetwide federation. What followed was a full decade of strife and cold conflict. In the year 2168, the last sovereign nation on the planet succumbed to the pressure of the treaty under the angry voices of its citizens. In the following years, the Federation of Man was formed and at last, world peace was achieved. The world ushered under two centuries of peace. It was the 24th century, science and technology had prospered and the Federation of Man was already a Type-2 Civilization with boundless resources. Venus, Mars and the various moons of the gas giants were terraformed while the Asteroid Belt and the gas giants themselves were mined for an unending supply of resources. With the freedom and comfort guaranteed by unrestricted space travel and A.I.- the Transhumans, having long since transcended their original human ancestors lived boring, leisurely lives. Their only concern- entertainment which could last. To fulfil the entertainment needs- art, literature, music and games attained new never before seen heights. The Federation of Man entered an age which they dubbed ‘The Second Renaissance’. It’s finally the year 2396 and the game ‘World Bender’ is counting down to its much-awaited launch. Having been under constant development for almost 20 years, the game had gained system-wide popularity to the extent that its fame reached even the remote colonies in the nearby star systems. The hype is at its all-time high. As the most anticipated VRMMORPG of the century, the game supports a world twice the size of Earth, promising to provide to the bored Transhumans, decades of entertainment! Meanwhile, on Mars, in the leisure district of Ipsum. A young man with a plan and nothing better to do awaits with an exasperated face, as the countdown to the game launch trickles down to zero. Just a year ago, in a drunken frenzy, he had bet on his life that he would bring the game world to ruins in 10 years.

Chapter 1 - Prologue: Enter the Madman

January 26th, 2395. It was a winter night with clear skies, illuminated solely by starlight. On the Martian surface, gargantuan skyscrapers glimmering in various coloured lights lit the skyline. Even at night, the Transhumans cared not about sleep as they had long transcended it.

This was the city of New Amor. A leisure city of love and passion, hence the name. As the largest city and the seat of government of the district of Ipsum, it was always active. The district of Ipsum was a small island district in the Borealis Ocean. During the early vestiges of its colonisation, it had a booming tourism industry and as such, it had been declared a district despite its small size.

Even until today, it still attracted millions of tourists from all over the Solar System. How could it not? It wasn't called the Love Capital of Mars for nothing.

The city of New Amor was flamboyant and bright. The buildings were beautiful and distinct from the style one would usually find on Earth or Venus. The radiant buildings were built out of Morph-material which was a type of nanomaterial used for construction. Morph-material was very famous on Mars as it allowed a greater degree of freedom over the alteration of buildings, which suited the ever-changing city of New Amor very well.

When one looked at its roads, it seemed to be packed full of vehicles but traffic was non-existent. The vehicles zoomed past the pedestrians faster than the speed of sound but they paid no mind. It appeared as if the roads were completely isolated from the pedestrian pathways.

When one looked at its people, one could tell every single one of them was beautiful. Their appearance exuded the finest perfection but yet they all had distinct faces which oozed with individuality.

Overall, the city of New Amor had an aesthetic which was extremely pleasing to the eye. A utopian city which wouldn't lose to its Terran counterparts.

Doubledecor Tower, Grant's Plaza...

"Hey man, you expect us to deal with your drunk ass? You even turned down your resistance!"

"Lannister is right, Jonas. You act fucking dumb when you are drunk. I am gonna throw you out from right here if you embarrass us."

Gulp. Gulp.

This was the 120th floor of the Doubledecor Tower which hosted a bar. Most of the serving personnel were androids however some enthusiastic Transhumans also volunteered for work occasionally.

These three, though, were friends who frequently visited the bar. After all, they lived in the same building.

All three of them were beautiful with fine features and proportionate bodies. One would think it was a gathering of angels if all the other patrons of the bar weren't just as beautiful as them.

The fellow called Lannister was the shortest one of the trio with light freckles and reddish hair which reached his shoulders, his pale skin shined blue under the bar lights while his small silver eyes were laden with thick dark circles. The tallest one of the trio was called Baron, he had dark skin and droopy eyes which looked beautiful coupled with their amber hue- but his bald head overall diminished his appeal. One had to wonder why he fashioned such a style.

The third fellow and the drunkest of them all was called Jonas. He was also tall although not as much as Baron. His black hair and sharp eyes were his most noticeable features. As of now, his eyes were muddled as if he would fall asleep anytime. If it wasn't for that he was still chugging down that cold purple liquor even now, one would think he was already asleep.

"You are not listening to us! If you don't stop right now, I swear I am going to abandon you right here!"

Declared Lannister dejectedly as he reached out, attempting to grab the glass of liquor out of Jonas's hands. But before he could reach him, Jonas casually threw his glass on the hard floor. The broken pieces of glass on the ground simply disappeared as if soaked up by the floor.

Subsequently, Jonas abruptly stood up which startled Lannister who had yet to register the turn of events. The trio received some curious glances from the other frequenters and Baron's face turned ugly.

Jonas appeared to be breathing heavily. His eyes were bloodshot and he appeared to be murmuring something intelligible. After a few moments like that, he calmed down and sat back on his seat and finally faced his friends. The whole development seemed bizarre and random but Lannister and Baron seemed to quickly adjust to it as if it was a daily occurrence.

"You scared me for a bit there, dude..."

"I thought you were about to lash out right there."

Lannister and Baron collectively breathed a sigh of relief as though they had tackled a disaster.

Jonas looked at his friends and murmured.

"Those W.B. fuckers, their game is gonna be released next year..."

The duo's ears perked up at this statement.

"That's right, are you still salty over it? You hadn't talked of them for the last 15 years!", remarked Lannister with a slim smile. Baron glanced back and forth between Lannister and Jonas with a concerned face.

'This bastard, he already forgot that Jonas is drunk over his ass right now.', he thought shaking his head.

Jonas's expression didn't change which surprised Baron who was ready to leap out at a moment's notice to pin him down.

Jonas chuckled to himself as he reached out to grab himself another glass of liquor. Lannister and Baron sighed again as if resigned to throw him out of the building.

"You bastards are going to give that game a go as well?", asked Jonas taking a sip of that strange purple liquor again.

The duo looked at each other before speaking again.

"Yes, I've got nothing better to do, man. No hard feelings but I might as well try it. Your old man's company missed out on a treasure. W.B. has obtained tons of recognition over the development of that game.", mentioned Lannister with a bitter smile. He could tell that Jonas was fuming.

"Well, they even managed to acquire the legal rights to name themselves after the game. They are trying their hardest to suck in all the fame they could from it.", Baron weighed in, sneaking a glance at the other patrons.

"That's right... those motherfuckers...", murmured Jonas, still drowning himself in liquor. If one of his human ancestors saw him, they'd have already considered him a dead man who was bound to die from alcohol poisoning.

Jonas put his glass of liquor down on the table and looked at his two friends straight in the eye. A few moments passed like this before Jonas spoke again.

"You guys... do you think I am going to let these W.B fuckers let their little game run peacefully?", asked Jonas calmy. However, both Lannister and Baron could tell the viciousness oozing out of those words from his face.

"What are you planning to do? Do you know that game is being worshipped by hundreds of millions of people right now? Any attack on them is going to bring bad fame.", asked Baron carefully.

"Haha... you are mistaken, my friend. I... I am not going to attempt more personal attacks on them. Those petty tricks, I am tired of them.", said Jonas standing up, his steps already wobbly. At that moment, Baron and Lannister both felt that they should stop him.

"What I am going to do is..."

"I am going to bring those bastards down, from inside their game..."

"Give me ten years, I bet on my life that I'd bring them to ruin with my own hands!"

Baron and Lannister heaved a sigh as they watched their friend who had fallen fast asleep on the floor having proclaimed something so childish yet so vicious. After all, they knew him the best and they also knew what the man called Jonas Stier was capable of.
