Chapter 239 - Chapter 239: Death and Loss

At this moment, Raymont seemed to sense Edward's movement and opened his eyes to find Edward in that state.

"So, you finally woke up, father." Said Raymont with a grave expression as he looked at his father.

"What happened to Lyonel?" Asked Edward as he did not care about anything except his son, Lyonel, at the moment.

Raymont's expression changed after hearing Edward's question.

"It seemed that he did not have a long time. Even that weird boy, Bran, said that he would die any day now." Said Raymont with a sad expression. Although he was not that close to Lyonel, Lyonel was still his brother, and his heart hurt him for thinking about losing a brother.

"I need to see him..." Said Edward as he tried to move his body. His movement woke up the two sleeping beauties by his side. When Jasmine saw her father, she jumped to hug him because she thought she lost her father with her brother and cousin on the same day.

"Jasmine, you have to grow up. I can't protect you all the time." Said Edward with a weird tone. He could not bring himself to tell her that she was the cause of her brother's and her cousin's death. But Edward was angry and sad at the same time. His daughter's weakness had such results.

Jasmine did not say anything, but she could see that her father was angry at her. Her eyes started to tear, but she nodded her head. She was already blaming herself for the past three days.

At this time, a knock on the door was heard from inside the room. Raymont asked the one outside to enter.

"Your highness, prince Lyonel woke up and wanted to see you." Said the messenger with a hurried tone. It seemed Lyonel's condition was bad, and this time would be the last they would see him.

Edward did not wait and hurried to his son's room to see him. His eyes did not stop tearing up all the way. When he found the master's room, he did not knock, but he entered directly. In the room, he could see the crying Sansa that would lose her husband anytime now. The rest of Edward's children were also there, and even the expressionless Axel had some tears in his eyes. Plus, there were masters taking care of Lyonel.

"I am sorry, little Lyonel. I could not protect you." Said Edward while crying. This time was the first time that Edward cried like this since Ashara's death. He did not believe that his son would die before he did.

"It is not your fault, father. I was not strong enough to protect myself." Said Lyonel with a smile as he looked at his father. He found it hard to speak, with half his body turning into an ice sculpture.

At this time, Raymont and the rest entered the room, and Jasmine could not help but cry loudly at the sight of her brother. She hugged him while tears from her eyes were soaking him.

"Don't cry, Jasmine. It is not your fault. I did that on my own." Said Lyonel as he patted her head to console her. At this time, he could sense that he would die at any moment and could not help but look at his wife, Sansa, who was about to give birth to his children. He could not help but tear up for leaving his wife and his child in this world alone.

"I am sorry, my love. I have to leave you alone. Father, please, take care of Sansa and my child." Said Lyonel before closing his eyes and leaving this world. You could imagine the feeling of loss that Edward felt when he saw his child taking his last breath.

The cries and screams filled the room, especially Sansa's. The girl had thought that she found her prince charming and she was going to live happily with him for the rest of their life but look at this situation. Before her husband could even see their child, he died and left them in this world.

Edward could not take it anymore and left the room and the castle and came to an empty place in the courtyard before crying out loud and swearing that he would avenge his son, even if that took his life. And although his arm got broken, Edward did not care. And he took his sword and attacked a dummy in the courtyard with all his strength.

An hour later, he returned to the castle, but everyone could see that he was still angry, and no one dared to open their mouths. Edward went to find Sansa first because he wanted to console her.

"I am sorry, little Sansa. It is my fault that your husband died, but don't worry. If anyone dared to think of harming you or your child, they would be my enemy, and I would not let that happen again." Said Edward as he took Sansa in his embrace while patting her back.

After consoling Sansa, Edward went to see Stannis. Edward wanted to console his brother for his son's death before gathering everyone to see how they would face this calamity. It seemed that they would have to leave Winterfell for that Night King because the weapons would not arrive at Winterfell before the Night King.

What Edward feared the most happened next. Before the lords could retreat back to Winterfell with their people, the Night King's army attacked. It seemed that the fucking undead had become much more intelligent than Edward thought. He even divided his armies under the leadership of the White Walkers. With this tactic, the Night King had managed to destroy all the castles north to Winterfell.

Not only did Edward lose those men that he could use to fight the Night King, but the Night King had increased his minions by all the Smallfolks he killed in the towns in the North. When the Night's Watch retreated after receiving Edward's orders, they could not go to every castle and town to take their people with them.

Even Edward himself did not expect to save everyone in the North, but he hoped that many would end up on the side of the living in this life. Edward thought that he knew the Night King and how he worked, but this tactic surprised him. In the end, the North had lost a quarter of its population and lords.

The only merit that this tactic gave Edward was time. If he did not have this time, he would not have the time to plan his next move. Since he knew that the North was a lost cause if he stayed here, Edward decided to move the final battle in the North to White Harbor instead.
