May wanted to do more than she was currently capable of. She didn't think powers were amazing the way Matthew used to (and still sort of did since his was convenient). They could be hit or miss and those that got the worse end of the stick should have access to help.
A lot more people than one might think were affected by powers. Like how Adrian suffered because of his mother's and how badly the two of theirs interacted. How many people like him were out there suffering right now with no idea what was going on?
Thoughts like this continued to bother her all the way back home, interspersed with feeling seriously sorry for Nathan Grant. Having his mother kill herself and blame him for it, explicitly saying he deserved to be alone, had to have been incredibly traumatizing. Even her boyfriend seemed to think he had it worse and his mother had tortured him for years.
