Chapter 3 - It’s Classified

Snowbird had an even lonelier cell than I did. The Rockies and Sparkies took me to the bottom floor. The windows had stopped floors above us and the yellow lights were dim and barely illuminated the stairs. I was hoping that Bit would be here when I got there because I wanted to know what the heck was going on. We finally came to a heavy-duty door that looked like it was a mile thick. It opened slowly and led to another smaller hallway that had another reinforced door at the end. Whoever Snowbird was, they were dangerous. The final door had a warning haphazardly painted on in glowing paint that seemed toxic. It said, Do Not Engage. There was also a quarantine symbol on both doors, the hallway floor, and the walls. My panic outside had nothing compared to the panic I felt when they pushed me inside the door and slammed it shut behind me. I heard several locks and bolts click into place behind my back. The large cell wasn't what I was expecting, it resembled a child's playroom more than anything. It reminded me of my bedroom when I was younger and free. I felt a tinge of hatred and envy thinking of my spoiled, ungrateful little brother.

I heard a sigh and someone shifted out of the corner of my eye. A little girl was standing in a lone bathtub shoved up against the wall. She was spewing water from her palms and making fountains with it, she was playing with her magic, why was no one yelling at her? The most peculiar thing was her hair, it was only a pale blue that was fading! The blue seemed to seep out of her hair with every squirt of moisture from her hands! The roots of her hair were as white as the goddess Noctis' eyes while the ends were a light blue that lightened until there was no pigment left at all, just white. The girl turned, and her dull grey eyes connected with my brown eyes. The white-haired girl looked like a ten-year-old. She had pale skin and a light smattering of freckles underneath her large eyes that looked like they were fading, she wore a grey tank top and grey shorts. The girl's white hair was long and stopped around her mid-back. The girl shook out her hair and stepped towards me, I took a step back.

"Are you Snowbird?" The little girl's face was strangely devoid of emotion when she agreed with what I said.

So this was the Snowbird Bit had freaked out about? Was she another experiment? Snowbird was almost in front of me which jolted my head back into the present. I stepped back again but her small, cold hands caught my arm in a strong grip for a 10-year-old. I tried jerking my arm free but she was strangely too strong. I felt a strange tugging inside of me which sort of tickled. Snowbird's face pinched in concentration and the tugging became more determined than before, which tickled even more.

"Stop! That tickles!" I finally gasped, Snowbird let go of my arm and backed up quickly while looking at her hands and peeking at her hair curiously.

"I don't know what you were doing but it tickled. Are you trying to heal the attacks?" I asked then quickly thought better of it. Her hair is white, not blue she can't be a Wavie. But what about earlier-? No! It's impossible! No one has white hair. Snowbird was watching me curiously now which made me feel awkward.

"Uh, hi. I'm Raylee nice to meet you." I thrust out my hand for her to shake. She looked at my hand skeptically then gently took it. I felt the tugging again but it was weaker and didn't phase me. Snowbird stayed silent and held onto my hand.

"This is where you say, "nice to meet you Raylee! My name's Snowbird, you wanna know about my cool white hair?"" And then I'll say, "Hi Snowbird, yes I would love to know about your hair. I've been dying to know!" Snowbird gave me a toothy grin that looked hugely relieved. Does she even have social skills?

"Hi Raylee, my name's Snowbird. I can't tell you about my hair, it's classified."
