Chapter 1 - Chapter One - Blood On The Table

These pills had no effect. I woke up again with a fucking headache, that's what I gain doing my job, pain and bruises. Coffee doesn't work only energy drinks can keep me awake enough to get out of this bed.

I'm lucky, I only have five missing calls on my phone. Seriously they have to find someone else to bother on a Saturday morning. Fuck! I'm late again, I need to get ready fast and go to the Academy. Charlotte's gonna drag down me for that.

Sorry I didn't even introduce myself. My name is Adam White and I have a job that would kill anyone with at least a little bit of sanity. I live in Infinity Falls, a bustling town and not in a good way. A place where the cold whether brings dense energies that the folks ignore with a big smile.

I'm in such a hurry that I don't even know what clothes I got, I go down the stairs still putting my pants on. When I finally am ready and out of my house I see Charlotte in front of my door, her look says everything I need to know - Adam get in the car right now.

My silly smile couldn't save me now, but at least I've tried. Charlotte might be a little rigid with schedules but she's still a good person, we haven't the best friendship in the world but we know each other from a long time.

— Before you even say something, that poltergeist in that old lady house got me tired enough to sleep for a decade. — I say trying to make things better for me in that car.

— And when I least expect, you come with another lame excuse. — the girl with curly hair said while starting the car.

Charlotte was the don't-mess-with-me type of girl, but to bring a contrast to this dangerous personality she had a sweetness that never shows to anyone but I know that is there, I've saw it once. Behind the serious expressions and the sarcastic phrases there was a nice person. I can't count all the times that she saved me.

From a simple restless soul to a demon of the depths of hell, she saved me. Which is a easy thing for her to do since she is what the humans call "witch". She can absolve the energies of the cosmos and use as she wants.

When we go out to fight the forces of evil she likes to go as the script says, wearing a lether black jacket or a long overcoat. Just like some character from a teen show, but I wasn't the one that would look her in the eyes and say this. She basically hates pink of any colorful clothes, which I think is an offense to all the rainbow lovers. She is a black woman with a long curly hair and were almost my height.

After a couple minutes in that car, we finally reach the Academy. So much awful and incredible memories, when demons crash the pizza party when invaded here or when a Charlotte's experiment gone wrong and we had to face at least twenty zombies that left the floor smelling like a cemetery. It taken hours to get rid of that dirt. When we arrive I see Angélica in her notebook and Luke discussing with Richard.

— There he is! — Richard exclaim as if seeing me there was a miracle.

Richard Cooper was the oldest, he had like forty years or something, he never told us that. He's whole life were like a secret, looks like a topic he doesn't likes to talk about. What we do know is that he is Charlotte's father and were one of the Infinity Falls Academy founders.

Infinity Falls Academy is a place where they teach us how to fight against mythical and supernatural forces which haunts the world. More likely this town where everything seems to be perfect all the time. There is others Academies that does the same as ours, but the only one who can contact them is Richard.

His nickname on the house is Rick, so everyone calls him like that. He's got almost all his hair grey and wear tight jeans pants, boots and a hat wrote "Manhattan" in it. Like a cherif of a small country town.

— Quick answer... — Luke comes to me and put his hands on both my shoulders — In a to-death fight who wins... A fairy or a siren?

Luke is my best friend, he's the complete opposite of me in every way. He's fun and funny, takes everything as a joke. Which could be a problem in some circumstances. He always tries to make everyone happy and when someone is down he is always there and comprehensive.

Luke is a black guy and has a buzzcut, a piercing in the edge of his mouth. Wore always t-shirts and shorts, didn't have a taste for pants, using only when it was mandatory. He had a skate and Richard hate when he was skating inside.

— I think the siren would win, 'cause of the cursed singing. She could hypnotize the fairy to make her or he drown. Or even just exploding it's ears — I end by walking to the table in the center of the room.

— Pay up Rick, five dollars in my hand — Luke starts to celebrate while Richard pays the price for the bet.

— You can not doubt the abilities of a fairy. — He says keeping the wallet.

— You're totally right Rick, you can not doubt the ability of singing about the nature and throwing glitter over you. — Angélica says arching one eyebrow.

Angélica were also my best friend. And also were completely different from Luke, she was serious and focused on becoming the best paranormal detective and maybe being hired on her dream's Academy - California's.

She has long dark hair, wore black shirts and Jeans. Like Richard she wore boots. Her fist were filled with bracelets the were meaningful in a way the she never let anyone take any of those. Luke tried to prank her but ended up not being able to sit for two days.

— So... Going back to work guys. — Richard said walking to the center table with us. — We didn't have a new clue on this case for at least a week.

— Wait a little bit I cannot think without my donuts! — Exclaim Luke hurrying up to the refrigerator.

— There we go... — I start saying by grabbing my diary from my backpack.

I always write every case we investigate in my diary I think it is a form of therapy, I don't really know. Some weeks ago we were in the rich part of the city to see what looked like to be a murder. We had very few information about this one, Luke and I went there, but in a first day we didn't find anything.

The owner of the house were a upper middle class old man. He has many expensive portraits and sculptures, amazing lamps in the bedrooms. Expensive furniture. On the down floor there was no sign or theft of break-in. We went to the top floor.

[Adam White's Investigation's Diary]

"The victim was Robert Jones, forty five years old. He was found dead with bites on both fists without any blood on his body. Nothing seems to be taken from the house, everything's in order, no sign of robbery. Neighbors reported discussions between him and his wife. He had a daughter, both missing.

— Vampire! — All the people around the table said in the same time.

— I think we all agree with the classification of the suspect. — I say and turn my attention to the table — I just don't know how there's no tracks in that room. The one that did it knows exactly what is doing.

— I think we should shut the case. — biting a donut, Luke said and look at us.

— We can't shut all the cases just because you're lazy and don't want to work. — Charlotte end by rolling her eyes.

— I'm not lazy... I always try... — Luke starts but stops talking for another bite — I'm just an easy quitter.

— Can we please focus on the case? — The oldest said as he passed his hands in his face disapproving Luke's line.

It was passing the day three that we find something interesting and creepy. In one of the book-shelves in the living room, there was an hideaway leading to a secret corridor in the basement. Down there we found bloodstains and a rotten meat smell that made me sick.

The walls were filled with cracks with spider-webs and rats crawling inside the walls. We followed the corridor until reach a big wooden door with too many locks and scratch marks like if someone were trying to get out or trying not to get locked inside. We had to break-in.

As soon as we walked in the room Luke could not take and ran out to puke. In a bathtub on the end of the room there was two bodies. The wife and the daughter which was missing. Torture marks all over their bodies. Chains and bullets on the floor across the room. As I approach I could see the bullets holes in their heads.

— After seeing that I said I wouldn't eat anything in less than a month. — Luke end by eating the donut.

— The man's body were in a good condition but the other two were well rotten in some parts. The vampire that killed the man didn't killed the family. — Angélica begins to think.

— The guns, the bullets, the chains it all had the fingerprints of Robert. He was the one that tortured and murdered his own family. — I said closing my diary. I didn't want to believe it, all the hate, all the coldness... How could someone do that?

— Perhaps the vampire wasn't that wrong in doing what it did. — The boy on my side eat one more and last donut.

In that moment we all were in silence. This case were in our hands for like a month and we couldn't find anything. Not a single fingerprint of the vampire, and not even finding a reason for acts of that man. We were almost quitting when we saw the news.

"This is Rose Miller from the channel 5, unfortunately we have bad news this morning." — The reporter starts by walking in the front of a house — One more body was found in a suburban house. The police department just quit the place, they said it was a suicide. Neighbors noticed that there were no movement in the house and called the cops. It looks like this city doesn't have peace anymore" — She ends the transmission.

— Looks like we're not shutting the case Luke. — I started by staring the boy and getting up.

— Finally action. I need more donuts!

— Thanks to you Luke, cops suffers with the stereotype of a man with a donut in his hands. — Charlotte says getting up of the table too.

— They can thank me later. — with one donut on his mouth Luke tried to say that. He follows me to the car.

The city were far from the Academy so we had to drive for a long time. The not-trespassing-signs filled the doorway and circled the house. The cops weren't in here and we entered the house.

Everything was a mess, all the place were destroyed, like some war happened there. Broken chairs and a couch turned upside down in the living room. As we walked in the house we found broken plates and glasses. In the backrooms was the place the body were, the crossed lines were still there even though the body were gone.

Luke and I searched in every corner of the house for clues but we didn't find anything. The boy complains about the smell in the room and goes to the window to open it up, but he ends up stepping over something and almost fall. My attention is directioned to the floor and a volume under the carpet makes me think about something. There was an space under the wooden floor, under the carpet which has a type of letter in it. I grab it.

— What does it says Adam?

"I know you're reaching for me, that's why I'm leaving this note" — It was a letter from the vampire — "The man that I just killed were a deplorable being. In the basement of the house he had a storage where he locked his woman and daughter. He uses them to get money to pay debts with drug-dealers in this neighborhood. He sells their bodies for gangsters that are passing through the town, so they can have... A good time... I heard from a secure source that he was doing it and I came here to end it up. I set his wife and daughter free, they're far away from here now. We aren't in different sides Infinity Falls Academy, we're on the same side. I just do it on my own. Don't come after me. XoXo. Deadly Nightshade. — There was a lipstick kiss on the paper.

— It looks like we have the name of our vampire... — Luke says while I close the note.

We have to go back to the Academy. This vampire is a punisher. She's here with her own sense of hornor and sense or justice. We don't have to fight against her... But we will do what it takes to stop the killing...
